Jason Smith (shoulder surgery) has one year left on his contract at $2.5 million, but it's only guaranteed for $1 million if he's waived before June 30th.
Smith said recently that he's "making progress" in his rehab and it will be interesting to see if the Pelicans keep him on their roster -- $2.5 million isn't unreasonable for a solid backup PF/C, but Smith seems injury-prone after having three major surgeries in the past six years.

Jason Smith had successful shoulder surgery and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Smith had surgery to repair a torn labrum, the same injury that Dwight Howard is currently playing through.

Jason Smith (shoulder) is out for the season.
Smith has a torn labrum in his right (shooting) shoulder, ending his season with averages of 8.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 17.2 minutes a night. It's the third major injury in his six NBA seasons. Smith tore his ACL while with the Sixers and dealt with serious concussion issues while with the Hornets last year.

Jason Smith (shoulder) is questionable to play on Friday.
Smith didn't play on Wednesday and did not participate in shootaround on Friday, and that means he's the definition of questionable going into the game. With Anthony Davis' (shoulder) status also up in the air, Ryan Anderson could be staring at heavy minutes.

Multiple reports from Venezuela indicate Greivis Vasquez will have surgery on both ankles during the offseason.
The news is passed along from Bourbon Street Shots, a True Hoop affiliate of the ESPN Network. One report from Venezuela indicates Vasquez will need 12-to-16 weeks for recovery, and it's possible this impacts Vasquez's ability to play in the FIBA tournament in late August. Vasquez dealt with ankle injuries late in the year, but there has been no word on any sort of surgery or procedure to date. Stay tuned, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to know more.

A source told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that Eric Gordon trade rumors have "no merit."
Gordon is expected to be shopped by the Pelicans as the team looks to get out from under his contract, but right now it appears the team is committed to keeping him. We'd expect that to change as we enter the offseason and more teams begin to get active in shaping their plans for next season, but he'll remain with the Pelicans for now.

Austin Rivers says he would prefer to play point guard next season.
Rivers was drafted as a bit of a combo guard and the Hornets used him at shooting guard while Eric Gordon was sidelined. Of course, Rivers had arguably the worst rookie season ever, at least from a shooting point of view. The rookie shot just 37 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range in 61 games. "I played best when I was a one. Moving forward, that's what I'm going to try to do," Rivers said.
