Joe Alexander's one-year contract with the Russian team Krasyne Kaylya Samara will not include an out clause to return to the NBA this season.
Alexander has largely been a bust since being selected eighth overall in the 2008 draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He'll likely attempt to return to the NBA once the labor dispute is resolved, but he's a fringe player who may or may not find his way back into the league. Similarly to Gerald Green, Alexander's athleticism hasn't translated into his finding success.

Joe Alexander has signed with Russian team Krasyne Kaylya Samara.
The team also agreed to terms with ex-NBA forward Jarvis Hayes last week as well. Both should do better overseas than they did during their tenure in the NBA.

The Nuggets have invited Joe Alexander, Rodney Carney, and DeMarre Carroll to a free agent minicamp this weekend.
More players will be in attendance, and judging by this list the Nuggets are looking for an athletic swingman.

The Hornets have released forward Joe Alexander.
Alexander was the eighth overall pick in 2008 draft, taken by Milwaukee, but he hasn't panned out. He could stick with another team before long, but even so he wouldn't have fantasy value.

Sidelined
Greivis Vasquez had surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle on Friday.
He will begin his rehab immediately and should be ready to go for the start of next season. Vasquez's ankle cost him the last two games of the season and he missed some time with left ankle issues in March, as well. No player had more than GV's 704 assists in the regular season and he should be the starter next season even though Brian Roberts had a strong second half.

A source told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that Eric Gordon trade rumors have "no merit."
Gordon is expected to be shopped by the Pelicans as the team looks to get out from under his contract, but right now it appears the team is committed to keeping him. We'd expect that to change as we enter the offseason and more teams begin to get active in shaping their plans for next season, but he'll remain with the Pelicans for now.

Austin Rivers (hand) was expected to be cleared for basketball activities earlier in the week.
Rivers made the announcement in an appearance on ESPN's First Take, and it makes sense given he was slapped with a four-to-six week timetable on March 12 when he had the surgery. It's now been about 10 weeks since the procedure, and we don't expect Rivers to have any physical limitations entering his sophomore season.

No surprise for either one after their seasons in New Orleans last year. Now each will be inaugural members of the new Pelicans squad, and both will be integral in what the team does into the future.

Jason Smith (shoulder surgery) has one year left on his contract at $2.5 million, but it's only guaranteed for $1 million if he's waived before June 30th.
Smith said recently that he's "making progress" in his rehab and it will be interesting to see if the Pelicans keep him on their roster -- $2.5 million isn't unreasonable for a solid backup PF/C, but Smith seems injury-prone after having three major surgeries in the past six years.
