Eric Gordon admitted he had been dealing with painful bone spurs in his left ankle since the All-Star break.
Gordon missed the first 29 games of the season with right knee woes. He proceeded to sit out 11 more thanks to both knee precautions and the ankle pain. "My ankle bothered me everyday, even on days when I wasn't active," Gordon said. He underwent a scope last week to remove particles of scar tissue from his ankle. Gordon says he'll be 100 percent by camp, but we'll believe it when we see it.

Eric Gordon underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle to "alleviate pain caused by particules of scar tissue," and he's expected to be ready for training camp.
Gordon, still just 24 years old, had the surgery after dealing with soreness in his ankle toward the end of the season. It's yet another red flag for the injury-prone shooting guard, and this will not help the Pelicans in their effort to potentially trade him during the offseason. Gordon is owed more than $40 million over the next three seasons.

GM Dell Demps did not rule out a potential trade of Eric Gordon in the offseason.
The writing has been on the wall since the team re-signed him as a restricted free agent before the season. Still owed north of $40 million over the next three seasons, Gordon has had back and knee issues continually throughout his brief career. It will be difficult to acquire a package deemed satisfactory unless the Pelicans are just looking to get out from under that contract, and the latter scenario is entirely plausible. Gordon has clashed with coach Monty Williams and said last summer he didn't want the Hornets to match the offer sheet he signed with Phoenix.

Eric Gordon scored 25 points on 8-of-18 shooting (2-of-6 3PTs, 7-of-12 FTs) with four rebounds, three assists and a steal in Friday's loss to the Clippers.
The Hornets (and Gordon) would love for him to show well at the end of the year to enhance his nearly non-existent trade value, and that represents a silver lining for his chances to finish out the year on the court.

Austin Rivers says he would prefer to play point guard next season.
Rivers was drafted as a bit of a combo guard and the Hornets used him at shooting guard while Eric Gordon was sidelined. Of course, Rivers had arguably the worst rookie season ever, at least from a shooting point of view. The rookie shot just 37 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range in 61 games. "I played best when I was a one. Moving forward, that's what I'm going to try to do," Rivers said.

Anthony Davis said his biggest focus for the offseason is to get stronger.
Davis' 6'10/220 frame just couldn't handle the NBA's bigger interior players. It also played a role in him missing 18 games (21.9 percent) as a rookie. The fact that Davis was still able to average 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks speaks to his monstrous upside. Still just 20 years old, the Kentucky product has plenty of room for explosive growth.

Jason Smith (shoulder surgery) has one year left on his contract at $2.5 million, but it's only guaranteed for $1 million if he's waived before June 30th.
Smith said recently that he's "making progress" in his rehab and it will be interesting to see if the Pelicans keep him on their roster -- $2.5 million isn't unreasonable for a solid backup PF/C, but Smith seems injury-prone after having three major surgeries in the past six years.
