Amare Stoudemire was not happy with his role this season and wants to play a bigger part next season.
After GM Glen Grunwald said STAT could be on a minutes cap, it appears as if Stoudemire is preparing himself to play as much as he can. "You know Amar’e, he’s going to work as hard as he can during the offseason," said Happy Walters, Stoudemire’s agent. "It was a tough year, but Amar’e is already looking forward to next season. He’ll be ready." It's unclear what kind of role he'll have next season since Mike Woodson won't commit to him as a starter.

GM Glen Grunwald said Amare Stoudemire could have a minutes restriction next season.
It's way too early to determine what the restrictions might be, but the Knicks are focused on keeping STAT healthy and on the court. It appears as if STAT could be headed for another season as a role player with Mike Woodson saying he hasn't made a decision on whether or not he'll start, and Amare planned to talk with Woodson about his role for next year during the offseason. As usual, it's shaping up to be an interesting offseason for the Knicks.

Amar'e Stoudemire (knee) was not fully healthy during the playoffs.
As expected. Considering STAT sat out for more than two months after a second knee surgery this season and returned to a very limited role in the playoffs, we never expected him to be fully healthy this year. He'll have the offseason to rest and rehab, but there's a very real chance he becomes the highest-paid role player in recent history given his health woes and contract situation.

Amare Stoudemire (knee) played under six minutes in Game 6, his least playing time since returning in Game 3.
Kenyon Martin played 22 scrappy minutes before fouling out, Chris Copeland helped spread the court (3-of-6 from deep) in 19 minutes, and the result was a negligible role for Amare, who will make $45.1 million over the next two seasons. Injuries combined with Carmelo Anthony's success at PF have complicated Amare's role with the Knicks, and he came off the bench in all 29 of his appearances this year.

J.R. Smith played through the postseason with a swollen left knee "that contained fluid buildup," a source told the New York Post.
According to the source, Smith is "likely" to have his knee drained at some point during the next two weeks. While this would certainly help to explain Smith's struggles in the playoffs, we're not buying into the idea that the knee was solely responsible for his shortcomings. He's expected to be fine well in advance of training camp, but it's unknown where he'll be. He has until June 25 to exercise his player option for next year, or he'll be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

An MRI revealed that Carmelo Anthony has a small labral tear in his left shoulder.
The plan for Anthony will be to let the injury heal on its own for three or four weeks, then if there is no improvement, surgery will become an option. Melo's shooting numbers were awful in the postseason, making just 29.8 percent from the field. There's no correlation to his shoulder causing this issue, but it does make some sense since he was visibly bothered by the issue over the past month. Regardless of the treatment, Anthony should be ready for the 2013-14 opener.
