Former Bucs DT Chris Hovan has joined the coaching staff at Chamberlain High in Tampa.
Because of the lockout, it's hard to tell whether Hovan is walking away from the NFL at age 33 or simply picking up side work to keep busy. Hovan missed all of last season with a back injury after signing a one-year deal with the Rams. He was nearing the end of the line heading into 2010.

Hovan couldn't overcome persistent back pain, and probably didn't show much on the practice field. The 32-year-old's playing days are nearing an end.

Rams signed DT Chris Hovan, formerly of the Bucs.
After the Bucs took Gerald McCoy and Brian Price in the first two rounds of April's draft, Hovan became expendable. Still only 32 with a ton of starting experience, Hovan will help fill the hole left by Adam Carriker in St. Louis' interior line.

Bucs released DT Chris Hovan, OG Arron Sears, FB B.J. Askew, P Sam Paulescu, CB Stoney Woodson, and OG Shawn Murphy.
The only surprise here is that Michael Clayton wasn't among the players cut. Hovan, 32 in May, started all but one game for Tampa Bay over the last five seasons. He may get a look from the Giants, as New York DL coach Robert Nunn knows him well. Sears has some sort of mental disorder, believed to be depression-related. Askew is coming off a serious neck injury.

Rams TE Lance Kendricks had his right knee scoped last month.
Kendricks was dealing with swelling in his knee and decided to have it cleaned out. The former second-round pick showed up on the injury report a couple of times last season with a knee injury, but he didn't miss a game. With Jared Cook in town, Kendricks is expected to focus on blocking in 2013. He's sitting out OTAs, but he should be ready for training camp.
