Tony Romo has decided to forego an attempt to qualify for the 2012 U.S. Open golf championship.
Romo has come under heavy criticism for dividing his time between golf and football during the offseason. Long-time friend Jason Witten believes there's no doubt Romo is sending a message to his critics and teammates that he's focused on getting the Cowboys over the hump and deep into the playoffs.

Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw believes the Cowboys will pursue competition for Tony Romo next offseason if he doesn't play at a Pro Bowl level in 2012.
Cowlishaw was answering a chat question and is a columnist, not a reporter, but his comments are worth noting. Romo is about to turn 32 and has yet to push an impatient Jerry Jones over the top. Kyle Orton was signed to a three-year deal, but Cowlishaw is correct in his prognosis that Orton is no real threat to Romo. Considering that Romo's contract expires after the 2013 season, it's not far-fetched to believe Dallas will target a quarterback early in next year's draft.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports league owners voted 29-0 Tuesday to uphold Washington and Dallas' salary-cap penalties.
It's not the end of the Cowboys and Redskins' efforts to get their combined $46 million in cap space restored, but a clear sign commissioner Roger Goodell acted with broad support when he handed down his stunningly harsh punishment for dumping salary into the uncapped year of 2010. The saga could be headed to federal court.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk.com the Cowboys and Redskins have filed a formal grievance against the league for its removal of a combined $46 million in cap space the next two seasons.
The move comes ahead of this week's league meetings. According to PFT, the grievance is believed to focus on "procedural defects." They could have a case considering it doesn't appear dumping salary into the uncapped year of 2010 was ever officially banned, but rarely, if ever, does the league not get its way.

Felix Jones is being limited at Cowboys OTAs due to recovery from offseason shoulder surgery.
The Cowboys expect Jones to be 100 percent by training camp. The contract-year tailback battled a right shoulder issue, a high ankle sprain, and a hamstring pull last season. He'll return as DeMarco Murray's change-of-pace back.

Cowboys rookie WR Danny Coale will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair a broken bone in his left foot.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it's a broken fifth metatarsal that should keep Coale out a month. The Cowboys hope to have Coale on the field early in training camp, but the missed practice time will set the fifth-rounder back in his competition for the third receiver role. Andre Holmes, Kevin Ogletree, Dwayne Harris, and undrafted rookie Tim Benford are also vying for the job.
