49ers CB Carlos Rogers is "told (he's a) starter," but expects Nnamdi Asomugha to have a "big role."
Asomugha was expected to push Rogers opposite Tarell Brown, but Rogers remains penciled in for now. CSN Bay Area called Rogers a "lock" for a roster spot earlier this month, while estimating Asomugha was "50-50." Asomugha has to prove he's not done before competing for a starting job.

CSN Bay Area considers CB Carlos Rogers a "lock" to stay on the 49ers' 53-man roster.
Rogers was considered a potential cap casualty when the offseason began, but the 49ers guaranteed $1.25 million of his $5.85 million base salary and will almost certainly move forward with him as a starter. RCB Tarell Brown is considered the other "lock," with Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock "looking good." Nnamdi Asomugha and Perrish Cox are considered "50-50" to make the team.

Updating an earlier item, just $1.25 million of Carlos Rogers' $5.85 million salary became guaranteed by remaining on the roster through April 1.
It was previously believed
all
of Rogers' salary became guaranteed on Monday, but just 21.2 percent of it did. It should still go a long way toward securing Rogers' roster spot following the signing of Nnamdi Asomugha, but Rogers could be approached about a pay-cut before Week 1.

49ers CB Carlos Rogers' $5.5 million base salary became fully guaranteed when he was kept on San Francisco's roster through April 1.
The fact first appeared on the SB Nation blog Niners Nation and has since been confirmed by Joel Corry of the National Football Post. The signing of Nnamdi Asomugha is no threat to Rogers' roster spot. He'll also collect $350,000 in offseason bonuses. Rogers turns 32 in July. His play has slipped off a career year in 2011, but Rogers remains a solid and versatile cover corner.

Kendall Hunter (Achilles surgery) still expects to be a full go for training camp.
Hunter, who blew out his left Achilles' tendon on Nov. 25, recently resumed sprint work. He won't participate in OTAs or minicamps, but claims he's on track to battle for reps behind Frank Gore come August. Still, it would be an awfully quick recovery for Hunter. Note that Mikel Leshoure's rehab from the same injury lasted roughly 13 months. Leshoure also lacked burst upon return.

Although the 49ers' medical exam of Marcus Lattimore (knee surgeries) yielded positive results according to Jim Harbaugh, the coach says Lattimore must take a "step back" in terms of cutting drills.
"The ACL looks really good for Marcus," insisted Harbaugh. "We're just going to have to take a step back in terms of the cutting because we want that inside of the knee, the lateral side of the knee to heal fully. But we're good." Lattimore conceded he'd be "fine" with sitting out the entire 2013 season. Harbaugh said the 49ers will determine his playing status at a later date.

Updating a previous item, coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Michael Crabtree's Achilles' tendon was "completely torn" during Tuesday's OTA practice, and the injury was to Crabtree's right Achilles'.
So this wasn't a partial tear like Terrell Suggs' April 2012 Achilles' injury. For bookkeeping, we like to know which side of Crabtree's body was injured, the full extent of the injury, and all dates associated with his recovery, in order to provide accurate timelines in the future. Crabtree underwent surgery on Wednesday, May 22. Per Harbaugh, the full Achilles' tear occurred when Crabtree was "coming in motion and just planted and started a route, and it felt like someone kicked him in the Achilles'." The 49ers hope to have Crabtree back around Week 12.

Mario Manningham (knee) believes he'll be ready for Week 1.
It's an optimistic assertion. Manningham tore his ACL and PCL during Week 16 last season, a devastating injury that most players need nine months to recover from. He won't be ready for the start of training camp and will be in a race to avoid the PUP list. The Niners can't count on Manningham while making plans to replace Michael Crabtree (Achilles').
