Eagles LG Evan Mathis called his ankle surgery "a good thing."
Mathis will miss the rest of the spring workouts, but expects to be fine for training camp. The surgery was a simple cleanout. Mathis has missed just one game over the last two seasons and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 guard in 2012.

Eagles LG Evan Mathis is likely out until training camp after undergoing ankle surgery.
The surgery is described as "minor," and was done to address "swelling and discomfort" in Mathis' ankle. Former first-round bust Danny Watkins is expected to see first-team reps at OTAs opposite RG Todd Herremans. Injuries sapped the life from the Eagles' offensive line last season, with Mathis as the lone healthy member. They'll hope he returns 100 percent for the start of camp.

Beat writer Rueben Frank calls LG Evan Mathis the Eagles' offensive MVP from 2012.
Mathis turned out to be one of the few free-agent signings the Eagles have gotten right recently. Re-signed to a five-year, $25 million deal last March, he started every game in 2012 and graded out as the best guard in the NFL. Mathis is a lock to get his $1 million roster bonus on March 24.

Mathis was expected to have bone chips removed in a routine procedure, but has decided to wait a little longer before deciding. Mathis graded out as the best guard in the league by a wide margin in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Eagles TE/H-back James Casey underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean out loose cartilage in his right knee.
Casey, who signed a three-year, $12M contract in March, will miss the rest of spring workouts. He is expected to be ready for training camp. It's a setback for a player trying to learn Chip Kelly's offense and competing for snaps with both Brent Celek and rookie Zach Ertz. Casey was barely on the TE2 radar anyway.
