Derek Anderson completed 18-of-28 passes for 278 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions in the Panthers' Week 5 loss to the Bucs on Monday night.
Anderson got the start for a concussed Cam Newton. He didn't even attempt a pass in the first quarter as the Bucs dominated time of possession, and the Panthers only ran three plays in the opening frame. But Anderson made some great downfield throws in the second and third quarters before ultimately collapsing in the second half. His first interception was a telegraphed ball to Kelvin Benjamin that was tipped in the air. The second pick was a god-awful throw into double-coverage to Greg Olsen on 1st-and-goal from the one-yard line. And Anderson mixed a lost fumble on a third-down scramble in between. One of the lone positives for Anderson was him peppering Olsen with 12 targets, turning them into a 9-181 line. Newton is expected to be back for Week 6 at the Saints. Oct 10 - 11:43 PM
