7/7/2010: Signed an eight-year, $73.6 million contract. The deal contains $34.8 million guaranteed, including a $1.6 million signing bonus, a first-year roster bonus of $3.1 million, and a second-year option bonus of $3.9 million. All but $5.3 million of the "guarantees," however, are guaranteed only for "skill" and not injury. Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson restructured his contract, freeing up $5.128 million in cap space.
Ferguson, 29, was due a salary of $7.25 million but agreed to slash it to $840,000, turning the remaining $6.41 million into a "signing" bonus that is prorated over the last five years of his contract. It's the second offseason in a row that Ferguson has restructured. Ferguson graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 6 left tackle last season, and he hasn't missed a game in his seven seasons.

Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson has agreed to convert $9 million of his $9.985 million 2012 base salary into a bonus.
The cap hit of Ferguson's new bonus will be prorated over the final six seasons of the eight-year, $73.6 million deal he signed in 2010. The move gives the Jets a whopping $7.5 million in extra cap space this offseason. Gang Green had previously been amongst the most cap-strapped teams in the league.

Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson was turned down at the Jets' facility Tuesday morning when he tried to report to the team.
Ferguson is scheduled for a league-high $750,000 workout bonus, so he had all the incentive in the world to show up for "work." Unfortunately, the Jets denied Ferguson and Jerricho Cotchery access. Cotchery wanted to use the cold tub to help rehab his surgically repaired back. Ferguson and Cotchery could conceivably sue the Jets and/or the NFL for turning them down.

Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson stands to lose $750,000 in workout bonuses in the event of an extended lockout.
At least 50 NFL players have six-figure bonuses in jeopardy if they don't participate in 85-90 percent of the workouts, which grows more and more unlikely by the week. It's going to be challenging for the players to stand united behind De Smith's litigation route when pockets are receiving direct hits. It's not helping, of course, that the inability to keep players like Adrian Peterson and Rashard Mendenhall on point is damaging P.R. and overshadowing the NFLPA's true message.

Santonio Holmes (foot) is not participating in voluntary workouts, as expected.
Holmes has been at Ohio State during the first set of Jets minicamps, taking classes and rehabbing his Lisfranc fracture. He admitted he couldn't play if there was a game this week, and may not even be a full go at training camp. Even if Holmes does get back to 100 percent, he should not be considered a starter in fantasy circles. He has recorded one 100-yard day in his last 20 games.

Jets WR Stephen Hill admits he didn't "understand the whole football concept" as a rookie.
That could be a problem. Hill also admits he was bothered by the intense media scrutiny. "We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot," Hill said. "It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. ... It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running." Hill has been put on notice by coach Rex Ryan, but WRs coach Sanjay Lal believes he could have a big year: "He can be whoever he wants to be." A large part of Hill's progress will depend on who's under center.
