Coach Ron Rivera believes Beason is 100 percent. If that's true, the Panthers have a chance to form one of the league's better linebacking corps with Beason, Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis. Beason has appeared in just five games over the last two years.

Panthers SLB Jon Beason (knee, shoulder) is ahead of schedule in his recovery, and he plans to participate in this week's minicamp.
"Training camp was the goal, but (I'm) feeling so good we're going to work in a little bit in the minicamp," Beason said. The 28-year-old participated in individual drills at OTAs the last couple weeks, but he'll look to get in on some team reps this week. Beason should be ready to roll once training camp gets here.

It came as a mild surprise to see Beason on the field working out with the team, and then running 20 50-yard sprints after practice. He may not take part in June minicamp on a full-time basis, but he should be fine for training camp. Beason was working at strong-side linebacker on Thursday.

Panthers LB Jon Beason's roster spot is safe.
Beat writer Joe Person thinks there's too much money left on Beason's deal for him to be cut, even if the Panthers wanted to pull the plug. Beason is scheduled to count $9.5 million against the salary cap this season, and the Panthers would be charged $12 million if they cut him. The 28-year-old expects to play weak-side linebacker, but Person opines that his future is on the strong side.

GM Dave Gettleman admitted that he doesn't know if Jonathan Stewart (ankles) will be ready for training camp.
"We'll see. Time will tell," Gettleman said. Stewart is coming off surgery on both of his ankles and did not participate in any of the offseason program. DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert split the first-team reps. If Stewart can't participate fully in camp, the likelihood of a full-blown committee to start the regular season will increase. The Carolina backfield is as cloudy as ever.

Pilares went down during Sunday's win over the Redskins and will need surgery. His second NFL season ends with two catches for 42 yards and nine kickoff returns for 216 yards. Joe Adams figures to carry the load in the return game going forward.

An undrafted free agent and former college basketball player, Williams was more of a practice-squad than 53-man roster candidate to begin with. The knee scope will further decrease Williams' odds of landing a job behind Greg Olsen.
