The Kansas City Star expects Jamaal Charles to set a career-high for receptions this season.
As do we. New coach Andy Reid loves to use his backs on screens, shovel passes and arrow routes. "This is the most movement I've been (asked to do) in five years in the league, shifting and motion," Charles said during this week's minicamp. Note that LeSean McCoy averaged 4.28 catches per game while playing in Reid's scheme for the last three years. Charles is going to absolutely shatter his personal career-high of 45 receptions.

New Chiefs coach Andy Reid studied Jamaal Charles 2010 game tape as he prepares to increase Charles' usage in the passing game.
Charlie Weis coordinated Kansas City's 2010 offense and Charles set career highs in receptions (45), yards (468) and scores (3) while still averaging a scintillating 6.38 yards per carry. "Charlie kind of moved him around like we did with our guys (in Philly)," Reid observed. "I did that just to see how (Charles) handled the quick passing game or the deep passing game from the wide receiver position. He handled it well. So that gives you another dimension."

New head coach Andy Reid will bring the West Coast offense to Kansas City.
Reid's brand of the West Coast was famously pass-heavy in Philadelphia. Critics complained that LeSean McCoy -- and Brian Westbrook before him -- were underutilized on run plays, but they were always heavily involved in the pass game, helping them to compensate in terms of total yardage. Jamaal Charles is an adept receiver, and Reid's addition will improve his PPR outlook for 2013.

Jamaal Charles rushed 14 times for 53 yards in Kansas City's Week 17 loss to the Broncos.
Like his team itself, Charles went out with a whimper, but that shouldn't put a damper on his latest historic campaign. He finishes with 1,509 yards rushing, joining him with Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes as the only players in Chiefs history to reach the 1,500-yard plateau. With his 236 receiving yards factored in, Charles ends 2012 with 1,745 yards from scrimmage, which is less than 200 off his career high from 2010. He averaged 5.3 yards on his 285 carries despite being only a year removed from ACL surgery. With things unable to get any worse for the Chiefs at coach and quarterback in 2013, Charles should be a consensus top-five pick in fantasy drafts.

Chiefs RB Shaun Draughn is missing OTAs due to a sports hernia.
There's no word on whether Draughn underwent surgery. A third-year UDFA out of North Carolina, Draughn was serviceable in the Jamaal Charles backup role last season, but will be guaranteed nothing under the new Kansas City regime. He can't afford to miss much time after Knile Davis was drafted in the third round.

Chiefs placed WR Terrance Copper (knee) on season-ending injured reserve and signed WR Junior Hemingway from the practice squad.
Copper, 31 in March, caught eight passes for 79 yards on the season, but he holds more value to the Chiefs as a special teams player. He's under contract for $840,000 in 2013. Hemingway was taken in the seventh round of this past year's draft out of Michigan.

The Chiefs thought Moeaki might be ready by now, but predictably, he's not. He does remain on track to be ready for training camp. Going into the final year of his rookie contract, the Chiefs have greased the skids for Moeaki's departure after signing Anthony Fasano and drafting Travis Kelce.
