ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Friday that the Chiefs have "no concerns whatsoever" about Jamaal Charles' ACL recovery.
"Chiefs tell me no concerns whatsoever," Mort reported on
ESPN 32
. "... They expect him certainly to be ready for training camp. They're excited about him." Though Charles is sitting out OTAs, all signs point to him returning fully in camp. Mort also noted new Chiefs OC Brian Daboll's success with a somewhat similar player in Reggie Bush last year with the Dolphins. Bush set career highs in carries (216) and rushing yards (1,086) in Daboll's scheme.

The Chiefs do not intend to let Jamaal Charles (ACL surgery) participate in any pre-training camp activities.
The club is taking a conservative approach with its three ACL patients, holding Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry out of OTAs, as well. The goal for all three is to be ready by late July. "We’re going to do everything we can to get them as healthy as they can get before we put them back out there," coach Romeo Crennel said. "If they continue to make progress, they should be cleared by camp time."

Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry were each held out of the beginning of Chiefs OTAs on Monday.
All three players are in the final stages of their recoveries from torn ACLs. Each is expected to be at or extremely close to 100 percent for the beginning of camp. Charles recently estimated that he's "80 percent," and said he felt he can "do the same thing my teammates do." Kansas City will likely hold its dynamic trio out of next month's minicamp.

Jamaal Charles estimates that he's "80 percent" recovered from left ACL surgery.
Charles had surgery on October 6, 2011, so he's almost exactly seven months removed. Still awaiting clearance from Dr. James Andrews to join teammates on the field, Charles expects that to happen soon. "I feel I can do the same thing my teammates do," he said. "I do it without the coaches around. I catch the ball, I cut, I do a lot of drills and I've been doing this for two months." Charles vows to come back "bigger, stronger and maybe even faster" this season.

Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki (ACL surgery) expects to be at full strength for the opening of training camp in late July.
Moeaki has been running and lifting weights, but he's still unsure about his participation level in offseason practices beginning next month. Moeaki will be more than 10 months removed from surgery by the time camp opens, so his Week 1 status should in no way be in jeopardy.
