Colts WR Taj Smith exploded for 140 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals in the preseason finale.
If Smith's performance seems like deja vu, it's because he blew up for 91 yards and a touchdown in one of last year's preseason games before a hamstring injury ruined his chances of making the roster. He's on the bubble again this year. QB Kerry Collins had a typical performance, completing 5-of-10 passes for 45 yards and a lost fumble.

Colts re-signed WR Taj Smith.
Smith had a nice showing in preseason action before tearing his hamstring in early September. His re-signing isn't exactly a boost of confidence for Austin Collie owners, hoping he'd be cleared to play this week.

Smith is expected to miss five weeks, confirming that he'll be one of Saturday's final cuts. He needs to find a home with a thinner receiver corps.

Taj Smith led the Colts with three receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown against the Bills in Thursday's preseason game.
Smith isn't going to make the final roster, but he can always tell his grandkids about the time he
owned
Bills corner Ellis Lankster. Smith hauled in a 38-yard Curtis Painer bomb with Lankster draped all over him late in the second quarter. On the very next play, Smith beat Lankster again for a 43-yard score.

Colts placed RB Donald Brown (ankle) and FB Robert Hughes on season-ending injured reserve.
We suspected a high-ankle sprain after Brown was ruled out so quickly last week. The transaction is welcome news for the workload of Vick Ballard, who faces Houston's stout run defense in two of the next three weeks. The oft-injured Brown has missed multiple games in three of his four seasons with the Colts. While he's likely to be back with the team at a reasonable $1.705 million salary next season, Brown has fallen behind Ballard in the eyes of the organization. His Dynasty value is in the tank.

Delone Carter recently underwent shoulder surgery.
Carter tumbled down the depth chart last season, getting just 32 carries in 10 games before an ankle injury landed him on the inactive list. The extent of this surgery is unclear, but he won't have a good shot at carries this year either. Both Vick Ballard and Donald Brown are back.
