According to SI.com's Don Banks, there are members of the Jaguars organization who believe Chad Henne will beat out Blaine Gabbert by late August.
It's no surprise that Henne has backers in the front office. The Jags wouldn't have signed him if they didn't believe he could turn his career around. It's telling, though, that the same Henne supporters believed he would have beaten out both Gabbert and Tim Tebow had the Jags traded for the latter. While the official party line is that there is no competition this summer, Gabbert isn't going to have a long leash if he doesn't show significant improvement from his rookie season.

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey is downplaying the notion that Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert will compete for a starting job in camp.
"Blaine’s the starter," Mularkey said. Just after Henne was signed, Mularkey said Henne is "coming in as a backup, competing for a starting job." Henne will have opportunities to shine, but Gabbert would probably have to bomb early-fall work to lose out. The Jaguars are clearly pulling for him.

Coach Mike Mularkey indicated new QB Chad Henne is "coming in as a backup, competing for a starting job."
"Everybody comes in here to compete for a starting job," explained Mularkey. Henne confirmed that his shoulder, more severe than just a separation, is healed after October surgery. We believe Henne is a lead-pipe lock to start over Gabbert at some point in the 2012 season. Dynasty owners of Laurent Robinson had better hope so.

Jaguars signed QB Chad Henne to a two-year, $6.75 million contract.
The odds are strong that Henne will start at some point next season. GM Gene Smith is invested heavily in Blaine Gabbert, but the 2011 first-rounder is going to have to make major strides in pocket presence and accuracy to hold off Henne for the season. Although Henne has been plagued by hesitancy to take chances down the field and red-zone inefficiency, new coach Mike Mularkey may have more luck bringing out his physical gifts than the Dolphins did.

Jaguars WR Taylor Price required surgery and had a pin inserted into the stress fracture in his left foot.
He's on crutches at OTAs. Price's injury is going to put him well behind Cecil Shorts, Chastin West, and even Brian Robiskie when training camp kicks off.
