Dolphins agreed to terms with TE Dustin Keller, formerly of the Jets, on a one-year, $4.25 million contract.
The Jets' latest defector will remain in the AFC East. The sides had been near an agreement for 48 hours, but Keller was holding out for a multi-year deal. He didn't get it, and now finds himself a part of a brazenly "all in" Dolphins squad for 2013. Keller represents a major upgrade for a team that's lacked explosiveness at tight end in recent years, but is coming off a down campaign. Thanks to injuries and Mark Sanchez, Keller was limited to 28 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns in eight 2012 games. A seam stretcher and a red-zone threat when healthy, Keller should find himself on the low-end TE1 radar with Ryan Tannehill.

The Dolphins are "closing in on a deal" with free agent Dustin Keller.
According to Keller's brother's Twitter account, it's a
done
deal. It should become official within the next few hours. Keller was reportedly resistant to a one-year deal, but it's unclear if the Dolphins have caved and offered a multi-year pact. Keller would be a nice upgrade for the 'Fins at tight end.

The Miami Herald's "understanding" is free agent Dustin Keller may turn to the Giants or Bills after talks broke off with the Dolphins.
The Dolphins only offered Keller a one-year contract. His agent has also "reached out" to the Broncos. Keller is one-dimensional in that he can stretch the seam, but lacks blocking ability and isn't an ideal mismatch creator at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds. Rob Gronkowski is 6-foot-6. Jimmy Graham is 6-foot-7.

The New York Daily News hints the hangup in talks between the Dolphins and free agent Dustin Keller is Miami's unwillingness to offer a multi-year deal.
And why would they, in a market where even top free agents are struggling to breach the $10 million barrier in guaranteed money? Keller is the best remaining tight end, by far, but coming off an injury-plagued campaign where he caught just 28 passes. The longer Keller holds out, the worse his offers may get.

Daniel Thomas believes he's a legitimate contender for the Dolphins' starting running back job.
Thomas must not be watching much of his own film. "I don’t know why (Lamar Miller) would have the inside track," Thomas said incredulously Tuesday. "It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up." Thomas does admit he's been "inconsistent" since being the No. 62 overall pick of the 2011 draft. All signs suggest the Dolphins want and expect Miller to be their No. 1 back.
