Matt Flynn will open the offseason program as the Raiders' starter.
Last year, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Flynn would face competition and he meant it. This year, the Raiders have promised the same "competition," but don't have a Russell Wilson to back it up. Terrelle Pryor is not a real threat and GM Reggie McKenzie has admitted that he doesn't see a true franchise quarterback in the draft. Flynn is going to be under center come Week 1.

The Raiders insist Matt Flynn will face competition for the starting job.
Uh-huh. There's an outside chance the Raiders won't gift the No. 1 job to Flynn if they take a quarterback with the No. 3 pick, but his $6.5 million salary all but guarantees he'll be under center in Week 1. Terrelle Pryor is going to have to keep waiting for a turn that may never come.

Updating a previous item, Matt Flynn's new Raiders contract is for two years with an $11.5 million base value.
The first year is fully guaranteed with a $3.25 million signing bonus and $3.25 million base salary. In 2014, Flynn's salary jumps to $5 million and is not guaranteed. It's essentially a one-year, $6.5 million commitment, although the Raiders would have "dead money" on their 2014 cap if they cut Flynn next offseason. We do not believe Flynn will prove a capable starter in Oakland.

Upon acquiring Matt Flynn from Seattle, the Raiders increased his 2013 base salary from $5.25 million to $6.5 million and guaranteed all of it.
The Raiders also decreased Flynn's 2014 salary from $6.25 million to $5 million, none of which is guaranteed. Escalators and incentives were increased by $200,000. Flynn received $8 million from the Seahawks in 2012 to hold a clipboard. The increase in Flynn's guaranteed money with Oakland ensures his 2013 roster spot, but he's guaranteed nothing behind this year. It's still quite possible that the Raiders will use an early-round pick on a quarterback.

Raiders WR Jacoby Ford (Lisfranc surgery) says his foot is 100 percent healed.
Ford suffered Lisfranc injuries in each of the past two seasons, but finally appears to be 100 percent. The explosive receiver has a career 17.0 YPR average, and anticipates being used on returns this season in addition to being one of the team's top pass catchers. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, it will be important for Ford to show he can remain healthy.

New Raiders KR Josh Cribbs (meniscus surgery) says he'll be ready "when it’s time to play football."
Cribbs called Jets GM John Idzik's observation that his knee "(wasn't) quite there yet" a "negotiation tactic" before admitting he might not be ready to practice for over a month. Regardless, Cribbs should be ready well in advance of Week 1, and is slotted in as the Raiders' primary return man.
