3/12/2013: Signed a five-year, $35.11 million contract. The deal contains $19 million guaranteed -- a $5 million signing bonus, each of Cook's 2013 and 2014 base salaries, his $3 million roster bonus in 2014, and $5 million of his 2015 salary. Jared Cook's five-year contract with the Rams has a maximum value of $38.5M and includes $19M guaranteed.
The Titans couldn't find a way to use Cook, but the Rams (and others) were willing break the bank on him. His average annual salary currently ranks sixth among tight ends in the league, behind only Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Gates, Vernon Davis, Jason Witten and Aaron Hernandez. It's a huge chunk of cash for a player that has single-season career-highs of 49 receptions and four touchdowns, but speaks to his unique upside. The Rams are going to make sure Cook's 6'5/248 frame and 4.4 wheels are heavily involved in their offense.

Rams agreed to terms with TE Jared Cook on a five-year contract.
Cook, who turns 26 in April, will essentially replace Danny Amendola as the Rams' slot receiver as St. Louis attempts to make more big plays in the passing game. At 6-foot-5, 248, Cook's vertical, straight-line speed has been timed in the 4.4s. The rumored price tag was $8 million per year, which is an awful lot to pay a tight end who's never cleared 50 receptions in a season. The Rams, though, are tired of chain movers like Amendola and Steven Jackson who lack truly big-play ability. Cook, along with Brian Quick -- the organization
believes
-- has the potential to provide that. He'll be an interesting 2013 fantasy pick with upside. Cook averages 13.1 yards per career catch, with eight touchdowns among only 12 starts (59 games).

CBS' Jason La Canfora "continues to hear" the Dolphins will sign free agent Jared Cook.
As does The Sideline View's Adam Caplan. Per La Canfora, "other GMs believe" Cook is Miami-bound. Cook is also drawing interest from the Rams and Browns. If GM Jeff Ireland lands Cook to go along with Mike Wallace, Dannell Ellerbe and Chris Clemons, it will be a bold all-in gamble on the next two seasons. Ireland's track record is as spotty as it gets.

The Nashville Tennessean reports the Rams and Dolphins are "chasing" free agent Jared Cook.
The Rams are believed to be the early favorite. A couple of teams have already filled their tight-end vacancies on Tuesday, so there don't appear to be a whole lot of suitors left for Cook. Cleveland could also still be in the mix.

Sidelined
Rams TE Lance Kendricks had his right knee scoped last month.
Kendricks was dealing with swelling in his knee and decided to have it cleaned out. The former second-round pick showed up on the injury report a couple of times last season with a knee injury, but he didn't miss a game. With Jared Cook in town, Kendricks is expected to focus on blocking in 2013. He's sitting out OTAs, but he should be ready for training camp.
