Seahawks LT Walter Jones announced his retirement from football.
A nine-time Pro Bowler, Jones is in the discussion for best offensive tackle in NFL history -- possibly slotting behind Anthony Munoz at No. 2. Standing alongside Steve Largent as the best player in franchise history, Jones was a phenomenal athlete who reportedly allowed just 23 sacks in his entire 12-year career. Mike Holmgren, who had Joe Montana with the 49ers and Brett Favre with the Packers, calls Jones the best offensive player he's ever coached. He's a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

The Seahawks will make a formal announcement regarding longtime LT Walter Jones next Thursday.
He's fully expected to retire. The Seahawks made it clear that they've moved on from Jones by using the sixth overall pick on Russell Okung Thursday night, when C.J. Spiller was still on the board. If the season began today, Seattle's already much-improved line would look like this: LT Okung, LG Ben Hamilton, C Chris Spencer, RG Max Unger, and RT Sean Locklear.

Walter Jones, who continues to mull retirement, is not expected to show for the Seahawks' upcoming voluntary minicamp.
The big surprise would've been if Jones
did show
for the three-day round of workouts. The Seahawks are "operating under the assumption" that Jones is done with football, which is the way to approach a 36-year-old who didn't play at all last year because of career-threatening knee and back problems.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he's still awaiting "final word" on LT Walter Jones' retirement plans.
"Walter is kind of setting his ducks in a row here to come to a conclusion," said Carroll. Jones has continued to rehab, and Carroll expects to see him next week. The Seahawks remain open to a return if Jones decides he's ready to attempt a comeback.

Percy Harvin said he'll play "a little bit" of running back this season.
During four seasons with the Vikings, Harvin averaged 1.9 carries per game. If that number rises in Seattle, it won't be by much. Although Harvin is more than capable of running the read option with Russell Wilson, the Seahawks need him in the slot. They're stacked at running back with Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin and rookie Christine Michael.

The Seattle Times doesn't envision the Seahawks cutting TE Zach Miller.
We don't, either. Miller has a mammoth cap number for 2013 as he's due a $6.8 million salary and a $3 million roster bonus, but he was finally starting to come on in the latter stages of the 2012 season, capping it off with an eight-catch, 142-yard, one-score Divisional Round playoff game outburst against the Falcons. He should be in line for a bigger role on offense this coming season.
