Coach Tom Coughlin confirmed that Jason Pierre-Paul's Week 1 status is unclear.
Pierre-Paul's 12-week timetable following Tuesday's back surgery puts him back right around early September. Coughlin was asked if he expects JPP for Week 1 Sunday night game in Dallas. "I'm hoping, but I wouldn't say that. That's an aggressive position to take."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on
SportsCenter
Tuesday that Giants RE Jason Pierre-Paul's Week 1 status is a "guessing game," and his timetable has been set at "approximately 12 weeks."
Week 1 is in just over 12 weeks, so Pierre-Paul is in a similar boat to Rob Gronkowski, without the four offseason arm surgeries, of course. But their timetables are similar. Pierre-Paul won't participate in any preseason games, and he may well not get in a single meaningful training camp practice. It's a huge concern for the Giants' defense, which plummeted to 31st in the 2012 NFL rankings. We're a bit surprised Perry Fewell kept his job.
Jun 4 - 1:28 PM
Giants RE Jason Pierre-Paul underwent back surgery Tuesday.
Pierre-Paul was criticized for being out of shape during a disappointing 2012 season that saw him post just 66 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Perhaps his chronic back issues were the culprit. He'll start training camp on PUP, but the belief is that he will be ready for Week 1. After letting Osi Umenyiora walk in free agency, the Giants desperately need a healthy Pierre-Paul. Mathias Kiwanuka and rookie Damontre Moore are next up on the depth chart opposite Justin Tuck.

Jason Pierre-Paul insists he was in shape last season.
Coach Tom Coughlin recently attributed JPP's down 2012 to conditioning issues, but he swears that's not the case. "I was always in great shape," Pierre-Paul claimed. "I’m still the same size this year. People say I look slimmer but I’m the same weight." According to JPP, he played at 273 pounds last season, and is currently 274. Still only 24, JPP is a good bet to rebound from his 6.5-sack 2012.

Giants FB Henry Hynoski has been diagnosed with an injured left MCL and chip fracture to his lateral plateau.
It's actually a positive revelation for Hynoski. When he went down during Wednesday's OTA session, it looked like Hynoski could have blown out his ACL or patella. Instead, he will undergo surgery Friday and has a realistic shot at being back for Week 1. Hynoski graded out as Pro Football Focus' fifth-best fullback in terms of lead blocking last season.
