Jets G/T Vladimir Ducasse knows he has to compete for a roster spot this summer.
"It's now or never," Ducasse said. "It's pretty much a year for me to do what they drafted me to do." Ducasse, the No. 61 overall pick in 2010, has lost competitions for starting roles in each of his first three seasons, and he's started just one game. The Jets have added five offensive linemen via free agency and the draft, and Ducasse will have to compete for a backup job.

ESPN New York expects Vlad Ducasse to compete for the Jets' starting right guard job.
The Jets haven't addressed their offensive line outside of signing Willie Colon, so they don't have any better in-house options. A former second-round pick, Ducasse is no longer under scholarship with new GM John Idzik and will face heavy competition in camp. The Jets could look to upgrade at guard early in the draft.

Jets OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo said the new platoon of Vlad Ducasse working in with LG Matt Slauson is "a directive from high above me."
Coach Rex Ryan insists the call was his, though speculation is mounting that GM Mike Tannenbaum ordered the coaches to play his 2010 second-round pick. It's clear that DeGuglielmo believes Ducasse belongs on the bench. "He's playing well enough to be an every-third-series guy -- maybe," said DeGuglielmo.

Vladimir Ducasse will not play any tackle this season.
Ducasse has already lost out to Matt Slauson for the left guard job, but he won't kick back outside. The 2010 second-round pick is going to back up both guard spots while Austin Howard operates as the swing tackle.

The Jets don't expect Santonio Holmes (foot) to participate in June's mandatory minicamp.
It's not a surprise, as Holmes is still considered iffy for the beginning of training camp after going down last September. Holmes' injury was serious, but he doesn't seem to be rehabbing with a sense of urgency, instead taking classes at Ohio State. This is a marriage both sides appear keen to end. They almost certainly will in 2014.

Stephen Hill has sat out the Jets' first two OTAs sessions with swelling in his surgically-repaired right knee.
Hill declared himself "100 percent" earlier this month, but that's not the case. Recovering from an operation to repair his LCL, Hill needs as many offseason reps as possible after being utterly lost for the majority of his rookie campaign. He's not off to a good start.
