Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg says he's looking for a running back who can "make people miss (and) get the extra yard."
Mornhinweg is describing Chris Ivory to a T, who has the elusiveness to get around the edge, and power to break tackles once he gets there. The Jets are clearly excited about their new feature runner, but Ivory could spoil the party if he fails to stay healthy, which he's often done. Ivory has RB1 upside, but he should be drafted as your RB2.

New Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg's offenses have ranked in the top ten in yards-per-carry average eight times in Mornhinweg's 13 seasons as an NFL head coach or offensive coordinator.
The Jets are trying to get more athletic on the O-Line because Mornhinweg loves outside runs. "We're putting in more perimeter runs which has been Marty's thing, get some speed out there," coach Rex Ryan explained. "... We're pulling those guys and I think we are more athletic, especially at that guard spot." New feature back Chris Ivory has plenty of speed to beat linebackers to the edge.

ESPN New York reports Chris Ivory's three-year deal with the Jets is worth only $6 million, and not the initially reported $10 million.
Rushing-yard escalators could still push the total value to $10 million. The deal includes a $2.25 million signing bonus. It's an extremely team-friendly contract for the Jets, who have gotten light years better at running back with Ivory ahead of Mike Goodson. Ivory will be an RB1 dark-horse if he can stay healthy, which has been a challenge to this point in his career.

Jets signed RB Chris Ivory to a three-year, $10 million contract.
Ivory turned 25 last month, so the three-year deal keeps him under the Jets' control through his age-27 season. He'll be eligible to enter free agency at 28, giving Ivory a chance at another significant contract should he capitalize on the opportunity in New York. It's a good deal for both sides. The contract is worth more than Mike Goodson's three-year, $6.9 million contract, which all but locks in Ivory as the heavy favorite for early-down carries. Goodson will play on passing downs and work in the change-of-pace role.

The Jets don't expect Santonio Holmes (foot) to participate in June's mandatory minicamp.
It's not a surprise, as Holmes is still considered iffy for the beginning of training camp after going down last September. Holmes' injury was serious, but he doesn't seem to be rehabbing with a sense of urgency, instead taking classes at Ohio State. This is a marriage both sides appear keen to end. They almost certainly will in 2014.

Stephen Hill has sat out the Jets' first two OTAs sessions with swelling in his surgically-repaired right knee.
Hill declared himself "100 percent" earlier this month, but that's not the case. Recovering from an operation to repair his LCL, Hill needs as many offseason reps as possible after being utterly lost for the majority of his rookie campaign. He's not off to a good start.
