Jets re-signed restricted free agent RT Austin Howard to a one-year, $2.023 million contract.
With the signing, Howard has reported for the start of the Jets' offseason program. A strong run blocker, the 26-year-old Howard graded out as the No. 12 right tackle in Pro Football Focus' ratings last season. Howard must improve in pass protection, but has a chance to be a young building block on New York's line.

Jets extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent RT Austin Howard.
New York was in limbo trying to decide whether to tender Howard at the first- or second-round level, but they went the cheaper route. We wouldn't expect any team to give up a second-round pick for the one-year starter, but the Ravens have been mentioned as a possibility. Howard excels as a run blocker.

The Jets are trying to decide whether to give restricted free agent RT Austin Howard the first- or second-round tender.
The first-rounder has a $2.86 million price tag, and the second-rounder is at $2.02 million. New York is reportedly "high" on Howard, but they're short on cap space and every penny counts. ESPN New York mentions the Ravens as a possible suitor if Howard gets the second-round tender. Baltimore holds the No. 62 overall pick.

Howard is the team's top restricted free agent, and the Jets could give him a first-round tender. The 6-foot-7, 333-pounder started all 16 games in 2012 after starting just one game in his previous two seasons. He struggled as a pass protector, but Howard was a top-ten run blocker, according to Pro Football Focus.

Santonio Holmes (foot) is not participating in voluntary workouts, as expected.
Holmes has been at Ohio State during the first set of Jets minicamps, taking classes and rehabbing his Lisfranc fracture. He admitted he couldn't play if there was a game this week, and may not even be a full go at training camp. Even if Holmes does get back to 100 percent, he should not be considered a starter in fantasy circles. He has recorded one 100-yard day in his last 20 games.

Jets WR Stephen Hill admits he didn't "understand the whole football concept" as a rookie.
That could be a problem. Hill also admits he was bothered by the intense media scrutiny. "We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot," Hill said. "It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. ... It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running." Hill has been put on notice by coach Rex Ryan, but WRs coach Sanjay Lal believes he could have a big year: "He can be whoever he wants to be." A large part of Hill's progress will depend on who's under center.
