Cam Newton completed 21-of-34 passes for 246 yards and a career-high five touchdowns Week 11 against the Redskins.
He added 16 yards on the ground. Washington provided almost no challenge for Carolina’s offense in this one. Jonathan Stewart had his way on the ground, and Newton took advantage with three of his touchdowns coming on play action near the goal line. The first two were almost the exact same play to Stewart and then Mike Tolbert in the flat, and Ted Ginn got wide open in the end zone for a two-yard score on another play action pass. Greg Olsen got open on an angle route from five yards out for the fourth touchdown, and Newton threw a dart to Devin Funchess for the fifth score early in the third quarter. Newton had never thrown for more than three touchdowns in a game before today, but he managed four in the first half. The game was over after the Funchess touchdown, but Newton kept throwing until he left the game mid-way through the fourth quarter and just barely missed Ginn for another touchdown. Newton has reestablished himself as a solid QB1, and he will be a must-start Thanksgiving. Nov 22 - 4:05 PM
