Patriots LT Nate Solder says he allowed "more pressures than I'd like" last season.
Taking over for a retired Matt Light, Solder graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 12 left tackle. Solid for a first-year blindside protector, though Solder did allow 28 hurries. For comparison's sake, PFF's top three left tackles allowed an average of 15 hurries. Going into his third season, the 6-foot-8, 319-pound former first-round pick has nowhere to go but up.

Nate Solder hinted Saturday he expects to be the Patriots' left tackle in 2012 if Matt Light retires.
Solder said he would have to "earn" the job, but also believes he was drafted to eventually be the Pats' left tackle. He may have to technically compete with Sebastian Vollmer, but would be the heavy favorite, with Vollmer likely to remain at right tackle. Light has stayed mostly mum on his future, but suggested last weekend he hasn't closed the book on returning for a 12th NFL season.

Nate Solder lined up as a tight end on 11.1 percent of the Patriots' offensive snaps in 2011.
He was used as a blocker, of course, drawing zero targets. Solder was a tight end in college before converting to offensive tackle as a sophomore. With starters Matt Light and Sebastian Vollmer both expected back in 2012, it's possible Solder could see another heavy dose of snaps at tight end. The position flexibility keeps Solder's value high, even if he's a "backup."

Patriots OT Nate Solder has been added to the injury report with a concussion, and is questionable for Week 10.
The fact that Solder is just now being added to the injury report obviously suggests he suffered the injury in practice on Friday. Despite his questionable tag, his chances of taking the field against the Jets are extremely low. Sebastian Vollmer was already in line to make his second straight start at right tackle, so the injury is not a huge blow for the Pats offense.

ESPN Boston agrees with the Boston Herald that Patriots WR Julian Edelman is not a lock for a roster spot.
The Patriots waited nearly a month before re-signing Edelman to a contract that includes no guaranteed money, while a setback with his troublesome foot has him questionable for the beginning of camp. Edelman's experience in the Patriots' system and special-teams prowess should give him a leg up on the likes of Donald Jones, Lavelle Hawkins and Michael Jenkins, but only if he's healthy.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots "(don't) know" how serious Rob Gronkowski's back injury is.
"I wish I knew as much as you'd like me to know," were the words of owner Robert Kraft. Rapoport believes the Pats should consider placing Gronk on the reserve/PUP list, which would hold him out for the first six games of the season. Depending on how Gronk's expected back operation goes, they may not have a choice.

Aaron Hernandez
Sidelined
ESPN Boston reports that "word is" Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) can expect a four-month recovery period.
Hernandez underwent a "minor scope" almost three weeks ago, and he is not expected to participate in OTAs or minicamp. It's possible he could even open training camp on the PUP list. There remains plenty of time for Hernandez to be ready for Week 1. The Patriots will likely bring him along slowly.
