49ers DE Demarcus Dobbs is "well ahead of schedule" in his recovery from partial knee ligament tears suffered last December 9.
Dobbs' agent says his client will probably be ready for training camp. Per the 49ers coaching staff's "points" system, Dobbs was San Francisco's top-rated special teamer in 2012. Dobbs is used sparingly on the defensive line.

49ers placed DE Demarcus Dobbs (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Dobbs suffered a partial tear of his MCL and PCL, but will not need surgery. A two-way player, Dobbs has been the team's third tight end and a rotational defensive lineman while also handling special teams duties. He's been a key reserve for the contending 49ers.

49ers DE Demarcus Dobbs was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of DUI and possession of marijuana.
A core special teamer and reserve lineman, Dobbs was arrested following a single-car accident at approximately 3:45 AM. He is facing misdemeanor charges. He will not travel with the 49ers to St. Louis. Dobbs has appeared in all 11 games this season after appearing in 12 as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

49ers DE Demarcus Dobbs has been seeing snaps at tight end in minicamp.
Dobbs saw limited snaps after making the 49ers as an undrafted free agent last season, but was used on kickoff coverage in the playoffs. He boasts impressive athleticism for his 6-foot-6, 275-pound frame, and could be used as an extra blocker on offense.

Frank Gore is sitting out 49ers OTAs with a minor injury.
Coach Jim Harbaugh declined to say what was ailing his No. 1 back, offering up only that he's "working through a little something." Gore has taken a tremendous amount of punishment throughout his career, but hasn't missed a game since Harbaugh took over as coach in 2011. Offseason absences are not a concern for the eight-year veteran.

49ers RB Kendall Hunter (Achilles) has resumed cutting at OTAs.
Hunter will be a full eight months removed from his torn left Achilles' when the 49ers hit training camp at the end of July. Running backs have a longer recovery period than other positions because of their need to cut. It's a positive sign that Hunter's been able to do so nearly two months before camp opens.

49ers signed No. 131 overall pick RB Marcus Lattimore to a four-year contract.
Lattimore will likely spend all of 2013 as a reserve while he continues to rehab his knee. He was touted as having "top-10" ability pre-injury, and the 49ers plan to have him 100 percent healthy for 2014.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh expects Mario Manningham (ACL, PCL surgery) to be ready for the regular season "at some point."
In other words, he's not putting a timeline on it. Manningham thinks he'll be ready for Week 1, but is still just five and a half months removed from tearing up his knee in Week 16. The 49ers are thin at receiver, but will be even thinner if they rush Manningham back and he suffers a setback.

Williams was facing an uphill battle to be ready for the offseason program, but he's reportedly on pace to return at the start of training camp. Manningham was never expected to participate in OTAs, and he's a candidate to start the season on the PUP list. Both will compete for roster spots.

Michael Crabtree had the stitches removed from his torn right Achilles' tendon Monday.
Crabtree underwent surgery to repair his full tear on May 22. Now that the stitches are out, he can begin the long rehab process. In a best-case scenario for the 49ers, Crabtree will contribute in the final month of the regular season.
