Ravens signed TE Alex Silvestro, LBs D.J. Bryant and Nigel Carr, and OGs Jack Cornell and Antoine McClain.
Silvestro is the only one with NFL experience, playing in one game for the 2011 Patriots. Carr was a top prep recruit back when he went to Florida State, but a 2010 felony arrest on burglary and fraud charges sent him to Alabama State. He was an early standout last offseason. All five players ended the season on the practice squad.

News that makes Bill Belichick's 11th hour decision to cut Tiquan Underwood and sign Silvestro more baffling. A rookie free agent this season, Silvestro will be facing an uphill battle to earn a 2012 roster spot.

Patriots promoted DE Alex Silvestro from their practice squad and waived WR Tiquan Underwood.
The Underwood move may mean Chad Ochocinco will be active for Super Bowl XLVI. An undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, Silvestro appeared in just one game during his first season. We suspect he'll play on special teams Sunday.

An undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, Silvestro was promoted off the practice squad last week, but was held off the stat-sheet in Saturday's win. He's unlikely to earn a roster spot next summer.

Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta said the team is "very excited" about Jacoby Jones as a receiver this season.
"We're very excited about Jacoby and the progress he made throughout last season," DeCosta said. "We think we've got some very good young players that can step up and contribute. Deonte Thompson isn't a heralded name, but a guy we think is going to be a good player. We're excited about Tandon Doss. David Reed has had a lot of injuries. He's flashed in practice and made plays." Add Tommy Streeter to the list of young receivers who could see a bigger role in 2013. DeCosta also wouldn't rule out the Ravens signing a veteran receiver.

Ravens placed WR LaQuan Williams on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
A deep reserve, Williams appeared in just 11 games on special teams this season, and failed to play a snap on offense. The second-year undrafted free agent will have to claw for a roster spot in 2013.
