The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are "privately very optimistic" about Jonathan Martin's chances of becoming a solid left tackle.
That must be the case, as despite an abundance of sound and fury, the Dolphins never seriously pursued an alternative after Jake Long bolted for the Rams. Martin, for his part, is relieved to finally know his position. "It’s exciting to play left tackle in the NFL — that has been a dream my whole life." Martin is "devouring four meals a day" in an effort to get up to 318 pounds after playing near 305 last season. The Dolphins' bevy of moves could be all for naught if Martin isn't up to the challenge of protecting Ryan Tannehill's blindside.

Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin says he's gained 15 pounds this offseason, bulking up to 320.
Martin was listed at 312 last season, but apparently played closer to 305. Muscling up is just one thing Martin would have to do to stick on the blindside. According to the Miami Herald, Martin has yet to be told "which side to focus on." Trade talks with the Chiefs for LT Branden Albert appear to be at a standstill.

Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin performed worse on a per-snap basis at left tackle than right tackle last season.
Martin allowed 15 hurries in 184 pass-blocking snaps (8.2 percent) at left tackle, compared to 32 in 404 (7.9 percent) at right tackle. Pass protection happens to be awfully important at left tackle. Martin, of course, is the favorite to protect Ryan Tannehill's blindside this year. After an offseason of reckless spending at nearly every other position, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland is rolling the dice on one of the most important spots on the field. Tannehill's health hangs in the balance.

The Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins "prefer to move" Jonathan Martin to left tackle.
This jibes with what we have heard for much of the offseason, especially this week after Jake Long bolted for the Rams. Martin started five games on Ryan Tannehill's blind side at the end of last season and gave up far too much pressure. In one instance he was just bulled over by 49ers OLB Aldon Smith for an easy sack. Look for the Dolphins to get serious on free agent RT Eric Winston soon if this report rings true.

Daniel Thomas believes he's a legitimate contender for the Dolphins' starting running back job.
Thomas must not be watching much of his own film. "I don’t know why (Lamar Miller) would have the inside track," Thomas said incredulously Tuesday. "It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up." Thomas does admit he's been "inconsistent" since being the No. 62 overall pick of the 2011 draft. All signs suggest the Dolphins want and expect Miller to be their No. 1 back.
