Jets WR Stephen Hill admits he didn't "understand the whole football concept" as a rookie.
That could be a problem. Hill also admits he was bothered by the intense media scrutiny. "We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot," Hill said. "It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. ... It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running." Hill has been put on notice by coach Rex Ryan, but WRs coach Sanjay Lal believes he could have a big year: "He can be whoever he wants to be." A large part of Hill's progress will depend on who's under center.

Stephen Hill says his surgically-repaired knee is at 100 percent.
Hill underwent surgery to repair his LCL in December. It sounds like it was some kind of scope or minor repair. Full participation in the offseason program will be big for Hill, who looked overwhelmed on his way to a meager 21 catches in 11 games last year. We'd feel better about his raw talent shining through this season if the Jets' quarterback situation wasn't such a mess.

Coach Rex Ryan expects Stephen Hill to improve by "leaps and bounds" in 2013.
"His ceiling is really high," Ryan said. "Many receivers coming into this league as rookies, a lot of inconsistency. Some weeks he was outstanding, other weeks not so much, but I expect him to improve by leaps and bounds going into year two." Hill was a non-factor after his five-catch, 89-yard, two-score Week 1. He finished the season with just 21 grabs for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Jets WR Stephen Hill (knee, injured reserve) will undergo surgery.
Hill's sprained LCL was evidently a good deal more serious than Robert Griffin III's. Although knee surgeries are never good news for a football player, Hill's operation should be relatively minor. He has a good shot at being a full participant in the Jets' offseason program. That's good news for a raw rookie who needs all the practice time he can get.

Santonio Holmes (foot) is not participating in voluntary workouts, as expected.
Holmes has been at Ohio State during the first set of Jets minicamps, taking classes and rehabbing his Lisfranc fracture. He admitted he couldn't play if there was a game this week, and may not even be a full go at training camp. Even if Holmes does get back to 100 percent, he should not be considered a starter in fantasy circles. He has recorded one 100-yard day in his last 20 games.
