Second-round pick Stephen Hill opened OTAs as the Jets' starting wide receiver opposite Santonio Holmes.
As promised by Rex Ryan, first-rounder Quinton Coples is also already a starter. The Jets are wasting no time with Hill, who projects to play a role similar to Braylon Edwards' two years ago. While we don't anticipate significant fantasy production from the raw deep threat in Tony Sparano's run-first offense, Hill should be good for a handful of big plays. He's big and long with speed to burn.

According to ESPN New York, second-round pick WR Stephen Hill "shined" in day one of the Jets' rookie minicamp.
Per beat writer Rich Cimini, Hill demonstrated "explosiveness off the line of scrimmage," and turned in a drop-free afternoon. Hill struggled with drops at Georgia Tech. The Jets believe Hill can run a full route tree and start opposite Santonio Holmes as a rookie, but he'll be a player to watch closely this preseason before determining whether he's worth a late-round fantasy pick. Coach Rex Ryan claimed Saturday the Jets considered Hill at No. 16.

Jets signed WR Stephen Hill, the No. 43 overall pick in the draft, to a four-year, $5 million contract.
He received $2.8 million in guarantees. Last year's 43rd overall pick, Kyle Rudolph, got $3.91 million over four years. Although Hill was considered raw in the draft community, the Jets believe he can run a full route tree as a rookie and expect him to start opposite Santonio Holmes. It's just not a strong fantasy situation in a run-first offense without a hint of quarterback stability.

Jets coach Rex Ryan expects No. 43 overall pick WR Stephen Hill to start as a rookie.
This is far from surprising after Jets VP of scouting Joey Clinkscales indirectly compared Hill to Calvin Johnson on Saturday. Hill has a rare size/speed combination (6-foot-4, 215 pounds, 4.36 Combine 40), but is extremely raw coming out of Georgia Tech's triple-option offense, and has struggled with drops. If the Jets are lucky, he'll make a Torrey Smith-like impact as a rookie.

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland is "95 percent" recovered from Achilles surgery.
"I'm feeling real well," Cumberland said. "I'm out there doing everything else everybody is doing." Cumberland will have to be fully healthy to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
