New Colts OC Pep Hamilton believes TE Dwayne Allen can be a "tremendous weapon."
"If you just look at the versatility of Dwayne Allen," said Hamilton, "and his ability to line up in the backfield and lead block, or detach and line up in the slot and win the one-on-one matchup, that’s a tremendous weapon." Hamilton's opinion jibes with Allen's rookie-year film. Although Allen's elite blocking is a major asset for the Colts' offense, it caps his fantasy upside.

Dwayne Allen caught four passes for 51 yards at Baltimore in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Allen saw six targets to Coby Fleener's five. The highlight was a 22-yard catch-and-run. The 64th overall pick outproduced the more hyped Fleener, finishing 23rd in fantasy points. Drawing comparisons to Heath Miller and Alge Crumpler as a fine all-around tight end, Allen should be drafted as a TE2 in 2013.

Dwayne Allen's 45 receptions broke Ken Dilger's Colts franchise record for rookie tight ends.
The more complete third-rounder has had a bigger impact than second-rounder Coby Fleener. A favorite of NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell, Allen has drawn comparisons to Heath Miller for his versatility, size, blocking ability, hands, and receiving skills. He finished 23rd in fantasy points compared to 39th for Fleener.

Dwayne Allen caught two passes for 21 yards in the Colts' regular season finale against the Texans.
Allen saw just three targets and was used in pass protection for most of the game. The Colts run a high-percentage of plays in two tight end sets, but have struggled to get both Allen and Coby Fleener consistently involved. Allen finishes his rookie campaign with 45 receptions and 521 receiving yards. Pro Football Focus graded him as the third overall tight end, and particularly strong in run blocking.

Colts placed RB Donald Brown (ankle) and FB Robert Hughes on season-ending injured reserve.
We suspected a high-ankle sprain after Brown was ruled out so quickly last week. The transaction is welcome news for the workload of Vick Ballard, who faces Houston's stout run defense in two of the next three weeks. The oft-injured Brown has missed multiple games in three of his four seasons with the Colts. While he's likely to be back with the team at a reasonable $1.705 million salary next season, Brown has fallen behind Ballard in the eyes of the organization. His Dynasty value is in the tank.
