The Cardinals are moving second-year DB Justin Bethel from safety to cornerback this season.
Bethel goes 6-foot, 201 with 4.56 speed. A special teams dynamo as a rookie, Bethel will compete for sub-package snaps behind Patrick Peterson and Jerraud Powers. Jamell Fleming and Antoine Cason are also in the mix for nickel duties.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says sixth-round S Justin Bethel is a "safe bet" for a roster spot.
Bethel has been a special teams dynamo through Arizona's first three preseason games, blocking three kicks. Bethel should be mostly limited to special teams, but a prototypical 6-foot-0, 200 pounds for a safety, he could see some defensive snaps down the line.

The Cardinals are listing sixth-round pick Justin Bethel as a safety.
Bethel goes 6-foot, 200 pounds and ran a 4.56 at the Combine. Those are safety measurables, and Bethel projects as a core special teamer from day one after spending much of his college career as a "gunner" and "jammer" on the coverage units at Presbyterian. Bethel blocked nine kicks in college.

Cardinals drafted Presbyterian CB Justin Bethel with the No. 177 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
A four-year starter for Presbyterian, Bethel is adept in coverage and also holds his own against the run. He's coming from an extremely small school, however, and it's unclear how he might fare against NFL-level competition. That being said, Bethel is considered a heady and extremely athletic player, and at the very least has a legitimate chance at a roster spot.

Coach Bruce Arians reiterated that the running back spot is open to competition.
Rashard Mendenhall may be the slight favorite as he had his best years under Arians in Pittsburgh and will be roughly 20 months removed from his ACL tear when Week 1 rolls around. But Ryan Williams, Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington will all be in the mix as well. "You really can't tell until the lights come on," Arians said. "Some were different from this morning's walkthrough to the afternoon practice. Until you turn the lights on, you really don't know about them."
