49ers TE Garrett Celek is expected to get a lot of playing time on Sunday against the Cardinals if Vernon Davis (concussion) does not play.
Celek played 51 percent of the snaps last week in Seattle after Davis was knocked out of the game by Seahawks SS Kam Chancellor. He was targeted three times on Sunday night and caught two passes for 41 yards in the game. Delanie Walker would get the start at tight end, but "they’ll probably split a couple of things... it will definitely be a mix and match thing," says OC Greg Roman. Celek is the younger brother of Eagles TE Brent Celek. He made the team as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State.

Undrafted free agent TE Garrett Celek earned a roster spot with the 49ers after "(coming) on strong" toward the end of camp.
Brent's brother, Celek had an injury riddled career at Michigan State, catching just 14 passes in four seasons. He made only five catches his final two years, but reeled in four balls for 63 yards during the preseason.

The San Francisco Chronicle believes undrafted 49ers rookie TE Garrett Celek has the talent to make a 53-man roster.
Garrett is the brother of Eagles TE Brent Celek. Reporter Kevin Lynch puts Celek's chances of cracking the 49ers' crowded tight end corps at 20-to-1, but believes a strong preseason could turn him into a possible waiver claim. Per Lynch, Celek "catches the ball so softly, you hardly ever hear (it) hit his hands," and also "seems to know his way around a pass route."

Kendall Hunter (Achilles surgery) still expects to be a full go for training camp.
Hunter, who blew out his left Achilles' tendon on Nov. 25, recently resumed sprint work. He won't participate in OTAs or minicamps, but claims he's on track to battle for reps behind Frank Gore come August. Still, it would be an awfully quick recovery for Hunter. Note that Mikel Leshoure's rehab from the same injury lasted roughly 13 months. Leshoure also lacked burst upon return.

Although the 49ers' medical exam of Marcus Lattimore (knee surgeries) yielded positive results according to Jim Harbaugh, the coach says Lattimore must take a "step back" in terms of cutting drills.
"The ACL looks really good for Marcus," insisted Harbaugh. "We're just going to have to take a step back in terms of the cutting because we want that inside of the knee, the lateral side of the knee to heal fully. But we're good." Lattimore conceded he'd be "fine" with sitting out the entire 2013 season. Harbaugh said the 49ers will determine his playing status at a later date.

Mario Manningham agreed to a pay cut to stay in San Francisco, slashing his base salary from $3.6 million to $1.8 million.
Manningham is coming off ACL and PCL reconstruction, so he had no leverage. The total pay cut is actually $2.15 million because Manningham agreed to eliminate a $250,000 offseason roster bonus in addition to a $100,000 workout bonus. Manningham suffered the injury in Week 16 and is not expected to be healthy for training camp. Anything the 49ers get from him in 2013 will be a bonus.

Williams was facing an uphill battle to be ready for the offseason program, but he's reportedly on pace to return at the start of training camp. Manningham was never expected to participate in OTAs, and he's a candidate to start the season on the PUP list. Both will compete for roster spots.
