The Miami Herald confirms No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan will be a defensive end with the Dolphins.
Jordan played some linebacker and slot corner at Oregon, but he's going to be Miami's base 4-3 right end. While Jordan is athletic and versatile to move around the formation, he was drafted to rush the quarterback in the old Jason Taylor role. IDP owners don't have to worry about Jordan being listed as a linebacker.

According to Profootballtalk, league insiders "fear" the Dolphins will insist on offset language in No. 3 pick Dion Jordan's contract.
The Dolphins took a similar approach with Ryan Tannehill, though he was picked five spots lower than Jordan at No. 8. Offset language only comes into play if a first-round pick is waived before the conclusion of his rookie contract. The releasing team is typically on the hook for all of the player's remaining salary, though some teams insist on language that requires the claiming team to foot the bill, thus preventing "double dipping" by the waived player. It figures to be a big point of contention in Jordan's contract talks, especially since the Dolphins traded up nine spots to get him. There's no reason he should have to agree to it. No. 5 pick Ziggy Ansah's contract includes no offset language.

The Palm Beach Post expects the Dolphins to bring No. 3 pick Dion Jordan along "slowly" as a rookie, using him as a third-down pass rusher only.
Pass-rushing wasn't even Jordan's calling card in college, managing 14.5 sacks across three seasons. It's possible he'll play strong-side linebacker on early downs, replacing Koa Misi, and kick to end in the nickel. That's how the Broncos use Von Miller. Jordan is expected to be a high-impact defender eventually, but the Palm Beach Post suggests it won't happen right away.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland said No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan could end up at linebacker.
"That’s what I like about him," Ireland said. "He’s very versatile and he played linebacker [at Oregon] and he also rushed the passer. [When] we get our hands on him, [we will] see where the best place he’ll fit. We’ve got a great vision for him. Part of that’s going to be rushing the passer but the other part’s up to [coach Joe Philbin]." Jordan will certainly rush the passer plenty, but he's so athletic that he could end up covering tight ends like Rob Gronkowski.

Daniel Thomas believes he's a legitimate contender for the Dolphins' starting running back job.
Thomas must not be watching much of his own film. "I don’t know why (Lamar Miller) would have the inside track," Thomas said incredulously Tuesday. "It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up." Thomas does admit he's been "inconsistent" since being the No. 62 overall pick of the 2011 draft. All signs suggest the Dolphins want and expect Miller to be their No. 1 back.
