Jason Witten expects the Cowboys to use more two-tight end sets this season.
Obviously, Gavin Escobar wasn't selected 47th overall to immediately replace the 31-year-old Witten. The San Diego State product is expected to help the Cowboys follow the league-wide trend of creating mismatches in the passing game through their tight ends. "I think that's a big part of where we're seeing our football team go," Witten said. "I think, more than anything else, I looked at it and said it's showing there's a commitment to this package and growing that."

Jerry Jones said he is "particularly excited" about the Cowboys’ ability to use multiple tight end sets following the second-round selection of Gavin Escobar.
Jones said the Cowboys tried multiple tight end sets with Martellus Bennett, but they "just couldn’t get it done" with him. "We had packages we worked on for weeks out here just to get packages in, and he didn’t show. That sounds negative toward him, but he didn’t show," said Jones.

Cowboys selected San Diego State TE Gavin Escobar with the No. 47 overall pick.
Escobar (6-foot-5 7/8, 254) was a highly productive receiver in SDSU's pro-style attack, catching 93 balls for 1,323 yards (14.2 YPR) and 13 TDs over his final two seasons. He checked in with 33 5/8-inch arms at the Combine and ran 4.84 with a 32-inch vertical. Escobar can't block a lick and is strength-deficient (12 reps of 225), but consistently secures passes with soft hands away from his body and projects a catch-first NFL tight end with fluid movement skills. He's going to create mismatches.

Two sources tell Yahoo San Diego State TE Gavin Escobar is a "top draft target" of the Dolphins.
A towering 6-foot-6, 254 pounds, Escobar has drawn loose comparisons to Rob Gronkowski and Tony Gonzalez, but ran an underwhelming 4.84 40-yard dash at the Combine. He caught 122 passes in three years in the Mountain West. Whether it's Escobar or someone else, the Dolphins figure to draft another tight end after whiffing badly on Michael Egnew last year.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Tony Romo (back surgery) "probably" won't be ready for minicamp.
Romo said earlier Tuesday he was optimistic he'd be ready for June's minicamp, but Rapoport reports the Cowboys are "fine bringing Romo back slowly." They have no reason to rush their franchise signal caller, who should be ready well before training camp.

Cowboys signed fifth-round RB Joseph Randle to a four-year contract.
The Cowboys have very high hopes for Randle, despite the fact that he'll miss all pre-training camp activities due to offseason thumb surgery. An adept pass catcher, Randle does little else well. On tape, it was evident his production was spiked by Oklahoma State's wide-open offense in the defense-deficient Big 12.

"It won't keep him out of training camp, but will limit him during (offseason) training," owner/GM Jerry Jones said. With a $1.2 million base salary, Vickers is squarely on the roster bubble.

Dez Bryant says he's "found (himself)," and is "comfortable" with his life.
"I wish it could've been a couple years back, but I had to go through a couple of things to figure it out," Bryant said of his past troubles. "I think I got it and I'm just more focused on my job and doing what I love to do and that's playing football." The light bulb went off for Bryant on the field last season, and is now doing so off of it. A rare talent, we don't doubt that Bryant can top his 92/1,382/12 2012.

Miles Austin said he is focusing on strengthening his hamstrings this offseason.
Austin played in all 16 games last season, but was consistently bothered by hip and hamstring issues. In 2011, he missed six games with a severe pull. "I'm definitely strengthening my hamstrings a lot more than I have been," said Austin. "Doing a different routine, a couple of extra exercises each day on our leg days."

Coale tore his ACL in November, and it's unlikely that he's going through practice full-speed. It's still good news for the 2012 fifth-round pick because just 11 days ago he had yet to be medically cleared. After spending last season on the practice squad, Coale faces an uphill battle for a roster spot.

Cowboys WR Tim Benford underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Benford will miss the rest of rookie minicamp and OTAs before returning for training camp. The former Tennessee Tech receiver spent the entire 2012 season on the practice squad, and he'll face an uphill battle for a roster spot.
