Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum is becoming an agent, and will represent football and basketball coaches in both the pro and collegiate ranks.
It's a fitting move for a GM who was always accused of being more of a lawyer than talent evaluator. The career shift makes it unlikely Tannenbaum returns to an NFL front office, at least in the near future.

Updating previous items, new GM John Idzik will have final say over New York's 53-man roster as part of his responsibilities with the Jets.
The Jets' fourth GM in 13 years, Idzik's background is primarily in salary cap management and business decisions. He has minimal experience with player evaluation or scouting. As ESPN New York has put it, the Idzik hire is an "extension of the Mike Tannenbaum model," with essentially a cap guy controlling player acquisition. The Tannenbaum model didn't work out so well, to put it mildly. Rex Ryan will
not
have increased personnel control. Either way, it's easy to see why the Jets had such a hard time getting anyone to take their GM job.

Jets hired Marty Mornhinweg as offensive coordinator.
Mornhinweg spent the past seven seasons as Andy Reid's offensive coordinator in Philadelphia. He will replace Tony Sparano's spitball offense with a West Coast, pass-first system that will be very different from what the Jets have run in recent years. Mornhinweg's hire will be less impactful than the offensive roster moves the Jets make this offseason. They need better players. If Michael Vick is released by the Eagles, as expected, it will be interesting to see whether he reunites with Mornhinweg in New York. The NY Daily News reported in mid-December that Jets head coach Rex Ryan "loves" Vick.

Jets hired former Seahawks VP of Football Administration John Idzik as general manager.
Although Idzik dabbled in personnel evaluation under John Schneider and Pete Carroll in Seattle, his primary strength was salary-cap management, similar to old Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. The Idzik hire means coach Rex Ryan should have almost complete control over the Jets' roster, which will be viewed in many circles as a risky proposition. Ryan is a football coach, not a scout. And Idzik isn't a scout, either. The Jets' roster has deteriorated so suddenly over the past 3-4 seasons because they've struggled mightily with player evaluation.

The Jets don't expect Santonio Holmes (foot) to participate in June's mandatory minicamp.
It's not a surprise, as Holmes is still considered iffy for the beginning of training camp after going down last September. Holmes' injury was serious, but he doesn't seem to be rehabbing with a sense of urgency, instead taking classes at Ohio State. This is a marriage both sides appear keen to end. They almost certainly will in 2014.

Stephen Hill has sat out the Jets' first two OTA sessions with swelling in his surgically-repaired right knee.
Hill declared himself "100 percent" earlier this month, but that's not the case. Recovering from an operation to repair his LCL, Hill needs as many offseason reps as possible after being utterly lost for the majority of his rookie campaign. He's not off to a good start.
