Bergeron gave the Bruins their first lead of the game (3-2) in the final minute of the opening period. The Bruins went into the third period trailing by one goal (4-3), but Bergeron helped set up third-period markers by Torey Krug (4-4) and David Pastrnak (6-4). The veteran finished the game with a plus-2 rating, two shots on goal and one hit in 19:36 of ice time. Bergeron wraps up the first round with a goal and eight points in six games. Jake DeBrusk (twice), Danton Heinen and Brad Marchand also found the back of the net for the Bruins in this one. Boston will now face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round. Apr 25 |
David Krejci ActiveDavid Krejci earned an assist in a 3-1 loss to Toronto in Game 6 on Monday night. Krejci had the lone helper on Jake DeBrusk's third goal of the postseason. The Bruins center has generated two goals and five points against Toronto in the opening round of the playoffs. Apr 24
Riley Nash ActiveRiley Nash has done a remarkable job filling in for Patrice Bergeron throughout the season. Nash also had to fill in for Bergeron in Game 4 against Toronto on Thursday night. Despite Bergeron being one of their best players, the Bruins have a 13-5-2 record when he's out of the lineup. A lot of that has to do with Nash's ability to step up. "He’s been a real good player for us. I don’t know if I’d call him an unknown, but he’s a guy that’s really elevated his game this season as it’s went along," Bruce Cassidy said of Nash. "Some of that has been opportunity. When Bergeron goes out, he has a chance to play with Marchand and Pastrnak. You saw it. He’s done a really good job when we’ve put him in there. He’s had a little bit more of an opportunity to have an offensive role." Apr 21
Jordan Szwarz ActiveJordan Szwarz has inked a one-year, two-way contract extension with Boston. Szwarz can earn $650,000 at the NHL level, which matches his salary for the 2017-18 campaign. If he plays in the AHL, then his annual salary will be $350,000. He would have become an unrestricted free agent had he not re-signed. He has three assists in 12 games with Boston this season. Mar 30
Tommy Wingels ActiveTommy Wingels will be a healthy scratch in Game 7 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Wingels suited up in Game 6, but he's being replaced by Danton Heinen tonight. The veteran has no points and a plus-1 rating in three games this postseason. Ryan Donato, Brian Gionta and Nick Holden will also watch the game from the press box. Apr 25
Sean Kuraly ActiveSean Kuraly has been productive in Round 1 of the postseason. Kuraly has contributed two goals and two assists in five games against Toronto. He has continued to pick up points on the fourth line, but he did play on the third unit to start the series because of an injury to Riley Nash. Apr 23
Colby Cave ActiveColby Cave has been recalled on an emergency basis. Cave has played in just one game with Boston this season, while collecting 33 points in 68 matches with Providence of the AHL. Apr 2
Ryan Donato ActiveDon't be surprised if Ryan Donato is a healthy scratch in Game 7 against Toronto on Wednesday night. Coach Bruce Cassidy said some of the lineup could be game-time decisions, but Donato hasn't played since Game 2. He also mentioned wanting to lean on experience and chemistry, so that suggests that Donato will sit again. Donato also wasn't on one of Boston's four lines during Tuesday's practice. Apr 25
LW | 1 | Brad Marchand ActiveBrad Marchand picked up a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. Marchand was embarrassed in the second period, as he lost a one-on-one battle to Kasperi Kapanen that led to the Leafs forward scoring a shorthanded breakaway. The Bruins were down 4-3 heading into the third period, but they managed to score four unanswered goals to win. Marchand helped set up David Pastrnak's insurance marker (6-4) with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation. He then added an empty-netter in the final minute of play. Marchand finished the game with a plus-2 rating and four shots on goal in 18:36 of ice time. The 29-year-old accumulated three goals and nine points in seven games during the first round. The Bruins will now take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Apr 25 |
Rick Nash ActiveRick Nash was moved to the third line alongside Riley Nash and David Backes in Game 6 against Toronto. Tommy Wingels moved up to the second line with Jake DeBrusk and David Krejci. Nash still played on Boston's top power-play unit, though. He has one goal in six games during Boston's first-round playoff series. Apr 24
Jake DeBrusk ActiveJake DeBrusk scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. DeBrusk's power-play goal at the 4:47 mark of the first period tied the game at one. The Bruins found themselves down 4-3 in the third frame, but Torey Krug tied it up before DeBrusk scored the go-ahead goal on a beautiful individual effort to make it 5-4 for his team. The 21-year-old had a solid opening round, as he collected five goals and seven points in seven games. Danton Heinen, Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand also found the back of the net for the Bruins. Boston will now face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Expect that series to start on the weekend. Apr 25
Tim Schaller ActiveTim Schaller scored a goal and had five shots in a 6-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Schaller has points in three straight games for Boston, and has four points in his last five outings. Schaller's goal gives him 10 on the season and 17 points in 56 games. Feb 18
RW | 1 | David Pastrnak ActiveDavid Pastrnak scored a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. Pastrnak registered the primary assist on Jake DeBrusk's game-tying goal (1-1) in the first period. The Bruins forward then added the insurance marker (6-4) with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation. Pastrnak finished the night with a minus-1 rating, three shots on goal and on hit and two blocked shots in 19:36 of ice time. The 21-year-old put up some impressive numbers in the first round, as he accumulated five goals and 13 points in seven games. The Bruins will now take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round. Apr 25 |
Danton Heinen ActiveDanton Heinen will be back in the lineup for Game 7 on Wednesday night. Heinen is projected to play on the third line with Riley Nash and David Backes. He was a healthy scratch for Game 6, but Tommy Wingels will be in the press box for Game 7 against Toronto. Apr 25
David Backes ActiveDavid Backes could be the recipient of a phone call from the Department of Player Safety after Monday's Game 6 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Backes was parked in front of goal when he connected an elbow directly to Frederik Andersen's head, knocking Toronto's starter to the ice. No penalty was called on Backes for the collision but Toronto's Roman Polak was penalized for coming to his goaltender's defense. Looking over the play in slow-motion, the elbow looks completely accidental and we do not expect Boston's veteran forward to face any league discipline. Game 7 is scheduled for Wednesday night and the Bruins will be looking to avoid blowing a 3-1 series lead. Apr 23
Brian Gionta ActiveBrian Gionta will be a healthy scratch in Game 2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Gionta had two goals and five assists in 20 games with the Bruins during the regular season. He was also a healthy scratch in Game 1. Nick Holden will also watch the game from the press box. Apr 14
Noel Acciari ActiveNoel Acciari scored a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Acciari helped set up Sean Kuraly's second-period goal which cut Boston's deficit to 4-2 at the time. The Bruins forward then added tally of his own to make it 4-3 early in the third frame. These were the 26-year-old's first two points of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. David Backes also found the back of the net for the Bruins. Despite the loss, Boston still leads the best-of-seven series 3-2. Game 6 will be played in Toronto on Monday night. Apr 21
Anders Bjork I.L.Anders Bjork has undergone shoulder surgery. Bjork will need six months to recover, which means he's done for the 2017-18 campaign, but should be fine for training camp. He had four goals and 12 points in 30 games in his rookie season. Feb 22
D | 1 | Torey Krug ActiveTorey Krug has been one of the league's top defensemen offensively so far in the 2017-18 playoffs. Krug has stood out in Boston's first round series against Toronto with a goal and eight points in five games. That puts him in a tie with Washington's John Carlson for first place among defensemen in the scoring race. No other blueliner is close to Krug and Carlson as there's currently a five-way tie for third place at five points. Apr 22 |
Charlie McAvoy ActiveCharlie McAvoy (knee) will be back in the fold for Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay. McAvoy had been absent for Boston's last 15 games because of sprained MCL. The rookie defender has seven goals and 32 points in 59 games this season. Apr 3
Brandon Carlo SidelinedBrandon Carlo (ankle) won't be able to compete in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second straight year. Carlo missed the postseason last year after he sustained a concussion in game No. 82. This time around, he sustained a fractured left ankle in his 76th appearance of the regular season. Carlo will undergo surgery later this week and he's expected to need three-to-four months of recovery time. Apr 4
Zdeno Chara ActiveZdeno Chara scored a goal in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Chara tied the game at two in the second period when he beat Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen with a terrific shot from an awkward angle. Unfortunately for the Bruins, Auston Matthews scored the game-winner before the end of the middle frame. Chara finished the night with a plus-1 rating while tying for the team-high in shots on goal with five. He played 22:31 in this one. The 41-year-old now has one goal and one assist in three postseason games. Despite the loss, the Bruins still lead the best-of-seven series, 2-1. Game 4 will be played in Toronto on Thursday night. Apr 16
Adam McQuaid ActiveAdam McQuaid scored in a 4-2 loss to Toronto in Game 3 on Monday night. McQuiad got the Bruins on the board early in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. He posted three shots, two blocks and two hits in the contest despite logging just 9:18 of ice time in the match. McQuaid took a puck to the throat area, but he seemed to be OK after the contest. Apr 17
Nick Holden ActiveNick Holden logged just 12:25 of ice time in Game 3 against Toronto. Holden picked up an assist in a 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs. Coach Bruce Cassidy thought that the 30-year-old defender played fine as a replacement for the injured Matt Grzelcyk. Grzelcyk may be available to return in Game 4 on Thursday. Apr 18
Matthew Grzelcyk ActiveMatthew Grzelcyk recorded his first career playoff point on Saturday. Grzelcyk registered an assist in what was his fourth career postseason game. He also had two shots on goal and two penalty minutes in 16:25 minutes of ice time. During the regular season, he had three goals and 15 points in 61 contests. Apr 22
Tommy Cross ActiveTommy Cross will be a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Cross was recalled on an emergency basis because Matt Grzelcyk (upper body) was a game-time decision. With Grzelcyk in the lineup, there was no reason to play Cross, who hasn't suited up in an NHL game this year. Jordan Szwarz will also watch the game from the press box. Mar 29
Kevan Miller ActiveKevan Miller (upper body) will return to the Bruins lineup on Saturday night. The injury forced him to miss each of Boston's last nine games. He has one goal and 10 points in 44 games this season. He doesn't need to be owned in any fantasy format. Feb 24
G | 1 | Tuukka Rask ActiveTuukka Rask allowed four goals on 24 shots during Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. Rask allowed two goals in the first 6:12 of the game and he followed that up by giving up two more goals on six shots in the second frame. The Bruins went into the third period trailing 4-3, but they managed to come back because Rask turned aside all eight shots he faced and because they scored four unanswered goals over the final 20 minutes. The Bruins netminder now has a 4-3 record with a 2.94 goals-against-average and a .899 save percentage this postseason. Boston will now take on Tampa Bay in the second round. They'll need Rask to be a whole lot better if they want to make it past the Bolts. Apr 25 |
Anton Khudobin ActiveAnton Khudobin allowed two goals on 28 shots in a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators. In what could very well be his last appearance of the year, Khudobin put in a great performance and will finish the year with a 16-6-7 record, a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage. The 31-year-old netminder was considered a liability at the start of the year but performed like one of the better backup goaltenders in the NHL this season. He'll be an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the season. Apr 7
Zane McIntyre ActiveZane McIntyre has been summoned by the Boston Bruins. It's not uncommon for teams to carry three goaltenders in the playoffs, so this doesn't necessarily mean anything. McIntyre posted a 2.59 GAA and .912 save percentage in 45 AHL games this season. Apr 12
