| C | 1 | Anze Kopitar ActiveAnze Kopitar admitted after the playoffs that he was not one of many players nursing an injury during the postseason. Kopitar's disappointing playoff performance led many to speculate the Slovenian forward might not have been playing at full health, but those suggestions were dismissed. "And [in regards to] being injured during this playoffs, there was really no significant injury that I suffered. It’s normal being just banged up a little bit – a few bumps and bruises, but that’s about it." While this should be encouraging news, it might have been more comforting for his fantasy owners to learn that he had been hindered by an ailment as that would have at least explained the disappointing results. Jun 9 |
Mike Richards ActiveMike Richards felt more comfortable in his second season with the Los Angeles Kings. "Especially after you win a championship, and more so after the first couple months, you start feeling more comfortable and confident to say things in the dressing room," Richards said. "Maybe your first season you’re a little bit tentative to step up in different ways, but I think this year with pretty much the same group as we had last year, I think everybody stepped up in different ways when things needed to be said." Richards signed a 12-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers, but was traded to Los Angeles. He's under their control through 2019-20. Jun 13
Jarret Stoll ActiveJarret Stoll is expected to remain on a line between Dustin Brown and Justin Williams going into Game 4. The Kings shook up their combinations in Game 3 and earned a 3-1 victory over Chicago, so they aren't likely to make any changes. Stoll's promotion will keep top center Anze Kopitar with Dwight King and Trevor Lewis. Jun 6
Colin Fraser ActiveColin Fraser was a healthy scratch on Saturday with the return of Mike Richards to the Kings lineup. Fraser played in all 16 playoff games before finding himself as the odd man out Saturday. He had two assists in the playoffs after potting a couple of goals and seven points in 34 regular season games. He is not worth selecting in fantasy pools next season. Jun 9
Jordan Nolan ActiveJordan Nolan and Tyler Toffoli left the ice at the same time Tuesday morning, so it isn't clear yet which one will play in Game 7. Nolan played in Game 6 and Toffoli sat as a healthy scratch. Nolan adds grit which is better suited for the fourth line, but Toffoli can bring more offense to the table. They'll probably both take part in the pregame warmup. May 28
| LW | 1 | Dwight King ActiveDwight King scored a shorthanded goal on Saturday. It was a big goal at the time as the Blackhawks were up 2-0 with the man-advantage. It was King's second goal of the playoffs as he ended the post-season with five points in 18 games. Jun 9 |
Dustin Penner ActiveDustin Penner won't be punished for hitting Dave Bolland in the face with his left forearm during Thursday's game. Penner might not have been intentionally trying to hit Bolland and it was during an open ice battle for the puck. Penner also wasn't assessed a penalty for his actions. Jun 7
Brad Richardson ActiveAs expected, Brad Richardson was inserted into the Kings' lineup on Thursday due to the injury to Jarret Stoll. "I thought he was nervous," Kings coach Darryl Sutter remarked. Richardson recorded an assist and three hits, but also finished the night with a minus-one rating. He logged 11:00 minutes of playing time. May 17
Kyle Clifford ActiveKyle Clifford admitted that winning on Tuesday was a bit of a "sigh of relief" moment. "Yeah, definitely," Clifford said. "I think we knew it was going to be a big game tomorrow. It was one of those must wins. Kind of get the ball rolling for us. We know we got a little bit better and getting ready for tomorrow night." The Kings will attempt to ride that momentum into Game 4 on Thursday. Chicago still has a 2-1 series lead. Jun 6
Tanner Pearson ActiveTanner Pearson made his NHL debut Saturday. Pearson played only 5:44 minutes on the fourth line with Brad Richardson and Colin Fraser. "I was coming up to be a black ace, just expecting to skate with them," Pearson said. "I guess anything can happen. . . .If you had asked me three years ago and saying I'd be playing my first NHL game in three years, I would have taken it in a heartbeat but I probably wouldn't have believed you." Pearson was the Kings first round pick in the 2012 Draft after going undrafted in his previous two years of eligibility. He had 19 goals and 47 points in 64 AHL games and looks to have a bright future in the NHL. May 19
| RW | 1 | Dustin Brown SidelinedDustin Brown suffered a torn PCL in his knee during Game 6 of the second round. Brown played through it, but had no points and a minus-three rating in the Western Conference finals. Overall, Brown was a physical force in the postseason, but he didn't do much offensively. That's in contrast to the 2012 playoffs when he tied for the league lead with 20 points in 20 games. Jun 9 |
Jeff Carter ActiveJeff Carter feels comfortable on a line with Dustin Penner and Tyler Toffoli. Carter has shifted to center because Mike Richards has been sidelined with what's believed to be a concussion. Carter's new line has found some success offensively. "Obviously with Mike going out, it’s a huge loss to our team," Carter said. "He’s a guy that plays in all situations. You know, I think the first game in Chicago, we didn’t really have too much time to think about anything. Maybe that was a good thing with Tyler coming in. Chicago’s not an easy place to play. With him coming in there, he played great. Penns has been good. Seems like we’re kind of keeping things simple. When you do that, get pucks deep, work their D low, which is something we’ve been trying to do, good things happen." Jun 6
Justin Williams ActiveJustin Williams played through a separated shoulder in the Western Conference finals. Williams doesn't think he'll need surgery. He played through the injury and still ended up with two goals and an assist in the Western Conference finals. Jun 9
Trevor Lewis ActiveTrevor Lewis said 'something happened' when he was called for goaltender interference with five seconds remaining in regulation time. The penalty put the Kings down two men heading into the overtime as the Sharks Patrick Marleau pushed him into Antti Niemi in the Sharks net. While the Kings killed off the first penalty, they were unable to handle the onslaught of the Sharks as Logan Couture scored at the 1:29 mark of overtime. May 19
Anthony Stewart ActiveThe Los Angeles Kings have recalled Anthony Stewart from the minors. Stewart was acquired by the Kings from the Hurricanes after the lockout but spent the season in the minors where he had four goals and seven points in 30 games. He also spent the lockout playing in England where he had six goals and 11 points in 19 games for Nottingham. May 12
Tyler Toffoli ActiveTyler Toffoli may get a better chance to playing in Los Angeles' top-six forward group if he can adapt to playing left wing. Toffoli said the decision is up to the team and he'll play wherever he's needed. Coach Darryl Sutter wasn't prepared to commit to anything. "Plan is to get him stronger first. Then see if he's a good winger in the American Hockey League or a winger in the National Hockey League," Sutter said. "That will be the first step." Sutter wants to see if Toffoli can handle playing a full 82-game schedule, so look for 21-year-old to try to bulk up over the summer. Toffoli feels like he's up for the challenge. Jun 12
| D | 1 | Drew Doughty ActiveDrew Doughty suffered an ankle injury in the San Jose series. Doughty played on the bad ankle throughout the Western Conference Final and although he averaged 27:57 minutes per game, he was held off the scoresheet and was minus-six in the five game series. Look for Doughty to return to form next season and he should be drafted as a top-ten defenseman in most pools. Jun 9 |
Willie Mitchell I.L.After Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi mentioned this past Sunday that Willie Mitchell is "clearly making progress again," the defenseman posted a video of him working out on his Twitter account Wednesday night. He was out on the ice and taking shots, which is a good sign. Mitchell's tweet also read "Just for some doubters and for those who have been supportive," which shows that he's motivated to come back and to avoid having to end his career prematurely. Jun 13
Slava Voynov ActiveThe Los Angeles Kings and Slava Voynov have reached an agreement on a six-year contract. The Kings did not release financial terms, but multiple media outlets reported it is worth $25 million. Voynov was scheduled to be a restricted free agent on July 5 but eschewed the open market and an offer from his hometown team in the KHL to re-up long term with the Kings. The $4.17 million annual salary probably didn't hurt, either. Voynov became a rising star this year amid multiple injuries to the Kings' blueline and stands to be a top-20 defenseman in all formats next season. Jun 18
Alec Martinez ActiveAlec Martinez is projected to head back to the press box in Game 3 Tuesday night. He hadn't played since Game 2 of the semifinals against San Jose. Martinez ended up with a minus-2 rating during his 12:44 of ice time, so it wasn't a successful return to the lineup. Jun 4
Jacob Muzzin ActiveJake Muzzin seems to have learned a lot from his rookie season, and recognizes his need to improve his consistency. "I need to continue to improve on getting better and making myself even more consistent on the ice and being more confident, and to get a little bit stronger and faster. [I'll] go from there," Muzzin said. The 23-year-old rookie defenseman had a solid debut campaign, with 16 points in 45 regular season games. Despite a few healthy scratches, Muzzin bounced back quickly from these hiccups, a good sign for his future. He looks to be a key piece on the Kings blueline in 2013-2014. Jun 11
Robyn Regehr SidelinedRobyn Regehr played through an arm injury that will require surgery. Regehr had an assist and a minus-eight rating in 18 playoff games. He inked a two-year extension with the Kings after being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres for a pair of second-round draft picks. Jun 10
Robert Scuderi ActiveRobert Scuderi thinks the Kings slow start cost them on Tuesday. "I think the challenge for us is – as Darryl would say – ‘starting on time,'" Scuderi said. "I thought they dominated the first. Second period, I thought they dominated the first half. We took the second half, and we dominated the third. When you think about it, it’s pretty much an even game, but they buried on their chances." Scuderi added that the Kings didn't learn their lessons from Game 3, so now the series is tied. The good news for the Kings is that the series is moving back to Los Angeles for Game 5. May 22
Keaton Ellerby ActiveKeaton Ellerby will be a healthy scratch Tuesday night. Matt Greene, who had been sidelined with an undisclosed injury, will take his spot in the lineup. May 21
Matt Greene ActiveMatt Greene talked about how the team's playoff experience benefits them. "Experience helps, you know," Greene said. "A lot of guys, been in Western Conference Finals before. Pretty much our whole team has. Now it’s just time to deliver on that, use that experience to help us out." The Kings obviously won the Stanley Cup last year and the vast majority of their players returned for the 2013 campaign. That's probably helped them endure with nothing coming easy for Los Angeles in their current playoff run. Jun 6
| G | 1 | Jonathan Quick ActiveJonathan Quick stopped 31 of 35 shots in a 4-3 double-overtime defeat on Saturday. With that, the Los Angeles Kings have been eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks in five games. Quick wasn't perfect in the Western Conference finals, but he did play well enough beat Chicago. The blame lies more with the Kings' offense, which was subpar for most of the playoffs. Taking a step back and looking at the playoffs as a whole, Quick was phenomenal and that will give us more confidence to recommend taking him early on in 2013-14 fantasy drafts despite his mediocre numbers in the regular season. Jun 9 |
Jonathan Bernier ActiveAnother team that is reportedly in the mix for goaltender Jonathan Bernier is the New York Islanders. The Islanders are believed to be inching closer to re-signing veteran netminder Evgeni Nabokov, but acquiring a young and talented option in Bernier would certainly fit into their long-term plans. New York has also been mentioned as a possible destination for Vancouver's Roberto Luongo, so it appears as though they are trying to shore up their crease no matter what happens in contract talks with Nabokov. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers are rumored to be in the mix for Bernier as well. Jun 19
Martin Jones ActiveMartin Jones has been summoned by the Los Angeles Kings. Jones isn't expected to get any playing time in the postseason, but this will be a learning experience for him. Jonathan Bernier is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer and the Kings might trade him rather than re-sign him because Jonathan Quick is already inked to a 10-year deal. If that happens, Jones might end up as the team's backup in 2013-14. He had a 2.53 GAA and .919 save percentage in 56 AHL games this season. May 8
Jean-Francois Berube ActiveJean-Francois Berube has been called up by Los Angeles. Berube will try to learn what he can during the Kings' playoff run, but he won't participate in it. He had a 2.24 GAA and .910 save percentage in 24 ECHL contests in 2012-13. May 8
