Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette argued that the Montreal Canadiens should trade Carey Price.
At the center of his argument is the fact that Montreal hasn't found postseason success in recent years while being centered around Price and major changes may be needed to get Montreal on the path to an eventual Stanley Cup championship. He also argued that Price has never stolen a playoff series, that the NHL is no longer about building around an elite goaltender, and that Price will be 30 in August, so he might see a decline in the latter half of his next contract. Those are fair points, but while Montreal hasn't come close to winning the Cup recently, Price is still one of the best goaltenders in the league. He's someone you can build a championship team around, even if Montreal hasn't been able to yet. That being said, you do have to wonder about his next contract as he will likely want something more lucrative than the seven-year, $59.5 million deal Henrik Lundqvist signed back in 2013. He's worth it now, but that deal might not look as good as Price exits his prime. May 8 - 9:59 AM
