Chicago captain Jonathan Toews scored two late, empty-net goals to set up overtime Monday night.
The Blackhawks, however, were edged 5-4 in overtime by the Ducks in Anaheim and now trail the best-of-seven, Western Conference Final 3-2. Chicago had been involved in seven Stanley Cup playoff series that were 2-2 since Toews and Patrick Kane joined the team in 2007. Entering Monday, the Blackhawks were 14-0 after that point in those series, closing out each of the seven in six games. But that won't happen in this series. Toews tried hard Monday, though. He scored twice late, cutting the Ducks' lead to 4-3 with 1:50 left in regulation as he one-timed a pass from Marian Hossa from inside the left circle. He made it 4-4 with 37 seconds left on a low shot in the left corner from the goal line that glanced off Anaheim goaltender Frederik Andersen's left skate and into the net. The Hawks trailed 3-0 after the first period but reduced Anaheim lead to 3-2 on second-period goals by Teuvo Teravainen and Brent Seabrook. Teravainen and Seabrook also had assists. Patrick Sharp had two assists. May 26 - 12:43 AM
