After unwinding during the 2014-15 campaign - his first since ending his playing career - Ryan Smyth is interested in working for the Edmonton Oilers again.
He's not sure what role he would have, but he hopes to discuss that with the Oilers. Depending on what Edmonton wants, he might end up focusing on helping Edmonton's prospects develop. To that end, he hasn't ruled out the possibility of becoming Connor McDavid's temporary landlord to help as the 18-year-old adjusts to the NHL. However, he denied reports that he has already volunteered or requested that he assume that role. "Haven't been contacted at all (about McDavid) … it’s all rumors. I haven't put my name forward. It's not that I haven't thought about it though," said Smyth. If Edmonton decides to utilize him in any capacity, Smyth would bring 1,270 games worth of NHL experience with him.
