"I expected to come back and coach again," now former Philadelphia Flyers coach Craig Berube said.
After inheriting the team just three games into the 2013-14 from Peter Laviolette, who is now the coach of the Nashville Predators, Berube went 75-58-28 over two season plus a playoff berth in 2014. In identifying catalysts for his dismissal Berube noted that, "Well I just think that, like he [Ron Hextall] said, I didn’t get enough out of the team. He believed it was a playoff team and I do believe it was a playoff team too, but there was some stuff." Such has the firing of successful goalie coach Jeff Reese and the mishandling of starting goalie Steve Mason. But Philadelphia was also the fourth worst penalty killing team as the eleventh-most penalized team, which was on top of an offense the slipped by 21 goals as well. At the end of the day everyone in Philly's front office seems to believe the Flyers already have the pieces to be a contender, and now it's about finding a better commander for the ship.
