A number of mistakes ended up costing Aston Villa points at the Etihad as they lost 3-2 to Manchester City.

Aston Villa started the match extremely poorly after Brad Guzan gifted Sergio Aguero an open net when trying to connect a pass across the back. It was possibly Aguero's easiest goal of his career and it was the start Manchester City needed. Villa were able to fight back and eventually tie the match 2-2, but a late Fernandinho goal gave City a much needed three points. Aston Villa will surely be disappointed as they must feel they deserve more than zero points from this match. They are now just two points above the relegation zone and are still strongly involved in the relegation race.

Nathan Baker became the second Aston Villa defender within the last week to suffer a knee ligament injury which is almost certain to end his season.

Baker was drafted into Tim Sherwood’s FA Cup semi-final side following the news that Ciaran Clark had suffered a medial knee ligament injury which would keep him out until next season but the defender lasted less than half an hour. The news will serve as a hammer blow for Villa who pulled off an unexpected win over Liverpool to reach the final at Wembley while the Claret and Blues sit just 4-points above the relegation zone. Ron Vlaar and Jores Okore – themselves no stranger to the treatment room – are tasked with staying fit and helping Villa to retain their top-flight status "They're the only two we're going with between now and the end of the season, so we're not blessed in defensive areas," which suggests Phillippe Senderos is also sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

In-form Christian Benteke scored the only goal as Aston Villa beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Benteke headed in Leandro Bacuna's cross as Villa boss Tim Sherwood got the better of his former club. Villa deserved their victory and almost had a second when Gabby Agbonlahor hit the post from Benteke's flick-on. They had to see the match out with 10 men after Carlos Sanchez was sent off for a second booking late on, but Spurs offered very little in attack. Villa move to move six points above the relegation zone while Spurs drop down to 7th.

Ciaran Clark is almost certain to miss next weekends’ FA Cup semi-final after suffering a knee injury during Saturdays’ win at White Hart Lane.

Clark lasted just 18 minutes before a medial knee ligament injury ended his day and the defender will now be assessed with his season hanging in the balance. Nathan Baker is the man most likely to come in having returned to fitness but Jores Okore is another option from the bench while Philippe Senderos and Aly Cissokho are medically fine but lacking fitness. Gabby Agbonlahor is another injury doubt for Wembley due to a hamstring complaint - scan on Monday - but Carlos Sanchez is definitely out following his sending off for two cautionable offences. The Colombian midfielder will resume his domestic duties at Manchester City in GW34.

Carlos Sanchez was sent off in Aston Villa's 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Sanchez picked up a second yellow in added time for a wild challenge on Tottenham's Danny Rose. Aston Villa were able to hang on despite going down to 10 men and the good news is that Sanchez should only miss one match with the suspension - their FA Cup clash against Liverpool next weekend. Villa fans might not be happy that Sanchez will miss the FA cup semi-final, but they should be happy he won't miss any Premier League action during their relegation battle.

Aly Cissokho could return this weekend after training this week.

Cissokho has missed time with a groin injury but is back at training and has a chance to return to the lineup this weekend. We think it will be Matthew Lowton who gets the start with Cissokho getting a spot on the bench but with the situation lacking clarity, we would avoid both in fantasy this weekend.

Carles Gil has a dead leg and will miss out on gameweek 32.

Gil could have been used by Tim Sherwood since Villa's attackers have all been hit with the injury bug but he's also unavailable. Expect to see a very similar lineup to last week, with Christian Benteke, Gabby Agbonlahor, and Jack Grealish being the front three for Aston Villa.

Scott Sinclair will miss gameweek 32 with a hamstring injury.

The Aston Villa midfielder will miss out with a hamstring problem and Jack Grealish will likely start in his place once again. Grealish is a creative midfielder who has the potential to be a good fantasy choice but hasn't proven to be reliable yet so it's hard to trust him in fantasy. It's unknown how long Sinclair will be out for.

Ashley Westwood will miss gameweek 32 with a hamstring injury.

Westwood has not been good under Tim Sherwood and is droppable in all leagues at this time regardless of injury status. He doesn't seem like he'll be a fantasy option for the rest of the season and managers should part ways as soon as possible. There is no word on how long he'll miss due to the injury.

Alan Hutton will miss gameweek 32 with an ankle problem.

Hutton was injured during Aston Villa's last game and will be forced to miss at least one match due to the injury. Matthew Lowton will probably start in his place but it is tough to play him in fantasy considering Aston Villa travel to White Hart Lane this weekend and have an off week in gameweek 33. Hutton is droppable in most leagues considering his upside doesn't justify a wasted roster spot for two weeks in a row.

Fabian Delph can be a useful fantasy option down the stretch as the midfielder picks up steam ahead of the closing weeks.

Delph has played really well in recent weeks and despite his efforts often not showing up on the stat sheet, he has produced decent fantasy numbers. He has averaged 9.75 Yahoo! fantasy points in the past four weeks and that's enough for him to be considered in plus matchups at a price of £ 10.58 M. It is worth noting that Aston Villa face an off week in week 33, so Delph should only be brought in in leagues that allow for numerous free transfers each week.
Apr 9 - 5:19 PM

Christian Benteke scored a hat-trick in Aston Villa's 3-3 draw against QPR.

In an incredible relegation battle, there was no doubt over who was man of the match. Christian Benteke was perfect from start to finish, willing Villa to three goals and keeping them three points ahead of the relegation zone. The match featured a ton of chances and some great finishing from both teams. It was one of the most entertaining matches of the Premier League season, even though the teams committed a number of defensive mistakes from start to finish. QPR is still in the relegation zone but are two points from Hull City, who sit in 17th.

Alan Hutton has been ruled out of tonights’ game at Villa Park after failing to overcome an ankle injury.

Hutton picked up the problem at Old Trafford on Saturday and becomes the latest in a long line of players currently receiving treatment at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground - it’s unclear whether the Scottish international will be available for GW32. Hutton joins Scott Sinclair and Ashley Westwood [both hamstring] as QPR arrive for a crucial bottom of the table clash which will see the Hoops leapfrog Villa should they win forcing the Claret & Blues into the relegation zone. Tim Sherwood could be forced to call upon a number of players who may be medically fit but not fully match-fit [Joe Cole, Ron Vlaar, Kieran Richardson and Nathan Baker] for the game as the Villains attempt to manage an ever-growing injury list.

Apr 7 - 8:16 AM

Just when it seemed the treatment room was beginning to empty at Aston Villa fate delivered a further blow to the Claret and Blues survival hopes as Scott Sinclair, Alan Hutton and Ashley Westwood were added to the injury list.

Defensively Villa were starting to look in better shape as Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker made the squad that travelled to Manchester while Jores Okore was able to overcome the knee problem which ruled him out of last weeks’ internationals. However training ground injuries during the build-up to GW31 ruled Scott Sinclair and Ashley Westwood [both hamstring] out while Alan Hutton did not appear for the second half at OT having sustained an ankle problem – the trio are unlikely to be available for Tuesday [against QPR] scuppering many a fantasy managers double game weeks plans. The availability of Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson also hangs in the balance with Sherwood unsure when the pair will return "I'm not holding my breath."
Apr 5 - 6:50 AM

Christian Benteke has experienced a mini-renaissance late in the season but his goal wasn't enough to get Villa even a single point at Old Trafford as they went down 3-1 to United.

Manchester United weren't quite as rampant as they were in recent victories but they were just as effective. They used two Ander Herrera goals and an audacious Wayne Rooney volley to score three goals. Aston Villa could only counter with a Benteke goal that David De Gea should probably have saved. With Leicester City and QPR both picking up unexpected wins, Aston Villa are right back in the mix for relegation with only Sunderland sitting between them and the drop zone.
