Alan Hutton will miss Aston Villa's next two matches due to being booked once again.

Hutton has now accumulated 10 yellow cards on the season and that comes with a two match ban. The first of those will be served in the FA Cup, but the second will be in the Premier League against Sunderland. If you have Hutton, find a replacement for week 29.

Christian Benteke's last-gasp penalty gave Tim Sherwood his first points as Aston Villa manager with victory over West Brom at Villa Park.

There are big moments, and then there are really big moments. Aston Villa played well in the first half and took a deserved early lead through Gabby Agbonlahor but they failed to add the vital second goal while dominating and very nearly paid the price. Saido Berahino equalised for the Baggies from close range with 25 minutes remaining and the match looked to be heading for a draw, until Ben Foster brought down Matthew Lowton in injury time. Up stepped Christian Benteke, and the Belgian calmly slotted the penalty away - his first goal of 2015 - to hand Tim Sherwood's side an absolutely massive three points, ending a run of seven consecutive defeats. This could be the turning point as the Villans move up to 17th place, with West Brom five points ahead in 13th.

Kieran Richardson and Aly Cissokho will both miss out on a second consecutive match as Aston Villa host Midlands rivals West Brom on Tuesday.

Matt Lowton is likely to deputize again as Villa and new manager Tim Sherwood find themselves down to their third choice behind KRich and Cissokho. The Tuesday match takes on added importance over and above the bitter rivalry. With Villa continuing to spend time in the relegation zone three points are critical to survival over and above local bragging rights.
Mar 3 - 11:39 AM

Ron Vlaar is questionable for Tuesday's match against West Brom with an injury.

Vlaar served a suspension in gameweek 27 and now is in danger of missing week 28 through an injury. Tim Sherwood has labeled him "touch and go", so it's not exactly clear whether he'll be able to play on Tuesday. Avoid him in fantasy for the week, especially with Villa not being able to keep any clean sheets lately. Kieran Richardson and Phillippe Senderos continue to be out while Alan Hutton and Aly Cissokho are doubts.

Aston Villa's players continue to struggle in both real life and fantasy.

This was a horrific week for Aston Villa. They lost yet another match, this time to Newcastle, and their players couldn't produce any fantasy worthy stats. The best scorer of the week for them was Ciaran Clark, who came out with eight fantasy points, but there isn't a single player we would recommend owning in the Yahoo! game in the coming weeks. There is just too much inconsistency and lack of upside.
Mar 1 - 3:09 PM

Aston Villa added another goalless contest to their season, suffering a 1-0 loss at St. James' Park to Newcastle United.

It is the same old song for the Villans, as their slide in the table continues. With some solid defending earlier in the season, Villa were able to grab points by keeping out the opponent, but that hasn't occurred since New Year's Day. That has resulted in seven straight losses with a total of two goals in the process. Things are not getting any better under Tim Sherwood at the moment. Delph flashed the most promise, but all bets are off from investing here unless you still have Jores Okore stashed for very little in the Yahoo game.

Aston Villa's defensive crisis is at an epic stage with no fewer than six defenders potentially missing out on Saturday's trip to Newcastle including Alan Hutton.

Hutton hasn't been ruled out entirely but he, like most of the rest of Villa's defense, could well miss out on the trip to Newcastle. Leandro Bacuna is likely to deputize for Hutton if he is unable to play. That swap, combined with the other likely absences could leave Villa vulnerable at the back as Bacuna is known as more of an attacking presence than a defensive one.

Aly Cissokho could compound Aston Villa's defensive issues if he isn't able to recover from a knock in time to face Newcastle on Saturday.

With Kieran Richardson out with a calf issue, Cissokho is the next in line to play left back for the Villains. With Ron Vlaar definitely missing through suspension and Nathan Baker, Alan Hutton and Philippe Senderos all uncertain as well it could be a makeshift defense that faces the Magpies. Even if more than one of the doubts manages to start it seems certain that Villa's defense will be at something less than it's best.

Kieran Richardson limped off late in the first half of Aston Villa's Week 26 defeat to Stoke City and will not be ready in time for their Week 27 trip to Newcastle.

With Aly Cissokho also questionable due to injury, Tim Sherwood is facing a bit of a crisis at left back as his relegation-threatened squad head to St. James Park. With the threat of the drop very much real Sherwood's managerial creativity will be tested if he has to cope with a makeshift left back in addition to missing Ron Vlaar who will be suspended after picking up two yellow cards against the Potters.

Carles Gil came back to earth this weekend and finally looked human after a few incredible displays for Aston Villa in the past few weeks.

Gil was one of the worst players on the pitch for Aston Villa this weekend. His passes weren't finding the target, his crosses were aimless, and he lost control of the ball far too often. We've seen the skill the midfielder has to offer and he's certainly better than what he showed this weekend, but we would recommend you put the brakes on him in fantasy until he proves to be more reliable.
Feb 23 - 9:17 AM

Kieran Richardson was making his first appearance since the drubbing at the Emirates in early February and his bright start under the stewardship of new boss Tim Sherwood was disappointingly cut short after 40 minutes on Saturday through injury.

Richardson was the preferred left-back resigning Aly Cissokho to a spot on the bench but a first half calf injury curtailed his involvement just moments before Stoke scored an equaliser to go in at the break level. However Tim Sherwood was said to be encouraged by a number of performances which included Richardson who "was very lively." Scott Sinclair was also worthy of a mention as the Manchester City loanee grabbed his second consecutive goal - the winger is hoping get his career back on track after struggling since leaving Swansea in 2012. Ron Vlaar will miss GW27 after the skipper gave away a penalty and received his second yellow card following a lunge on Victor Moses deep into injury time which condemned Villa to their sixth home defeat.
Feb 23 - 9:05 AM

Fabian Delph has been playing well as of late and has produced usable fantasy stats.

Delph had an assist this weekend in Aston Villa's 2-1 loss to Stoke City but has contributed meaningful stats outside of that in the last four weeks. His last four fantasy outputs have been 6, 6, 11, and 12 points respectively and they've come mainly from phantom points that seem very reliable. In good matchups, Delph could be a useful fantasy piece that provides both a good floor and some decent upside.
Feb 22 - 12:27 PM

Scott Sinclair has made it two goals in his last two matches for Aston Villa after scoring against Stoke City.

Sinclair scored in Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Leicester City earlier this week and then added another when they lost to Stoke City yesterday. The midfielder is playing in an attacking position for new manager Tim Sherwood but we don't think his goal scoring will continue. Sinclair has only registered two shots in his five matches with Aston Villa and both have gone in, which sounds like an unsustainable recipe. It's also worth noting that in the three Premier League gameweeks before this one, Sinclair only had one fantasy point in each. We would avoid him in almost all formats.

Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Stoke City in Tim Sherwood's first Premier League match in charge of Villa.

Scott Sinclair opened up the scoring for Aston Villa early in the first half but goals from Mame Biram Diouf and Victor Moses were enough to give Stoke City the three points. Ron Vlaar was sent off for a second yellow late in the game and will miss Aston Villa's next match. Aston Villa are now in serious relegation trouble as they are in 19th place with 22 points. Tim Sherwood is in for quite a relegation battle.
Feb 21 - 12:14 PM

Nathan Baker remains a doubt due to a knock he's been carrying for a while.

Baker remains out along with Philippe Senderos. Aston Villa's back line lacks depth at the moment but the good news is that Ciaran Clark and Ron Vlaar both made it 90 minutes on the pitch against Leicester City earlier this week. Jores Okore is also healthy and ready to jump in if needed. Baker and Senderos are not worth owning in any leagues.
