Shay Given and Gordon Cowans have been promoted to assist Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert after the club suspended assistant manager Ian Culverhouse and head of football operations Gary Karsa earlier today.

Culverhouse and Karsa have been suspended for an "internal investigation" and it's unknown if it has anything to do with Villa's poor form at the moment. The club is struggling without their two strikers, Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak, who are out for the season with injuries. There are even rumors of Paul Lambert leaving the club in the summer, but they seem to be just rumors at the moment.

Ron Vlaar played a great game in Aston Villa's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace but it wasn't enough to earn his team any points.

Aston Villa continued to struggle without Christian Benteke and they are finding goals difficult to come by. Grant Holt is not doing enough up top to make any team nervous and the supporting cast is average at best. Villa have lost four in a row and have entered the relegation battle. They are only four points ahead of Fulham and if they continue playing this poorly, they may find themselves relegated. Paul Lambert will have to find a way to get goals in what are shaping to be a difficult five games left on Villa's schedule.

Karim El Ahmadi and Gabby Agbonlahor have returned to training and are expected to feature against Crystal Palace.

The duo missed Aston Villa's last match with injuries but both are training again and expected to play this weekend. There is not much fantasy value to be had there as Villa missing most of their attacking power to injuries. They are still without long term absentees Christian Benteke, Libor Kozak, Charles N'Zogbia, Jores Okore, Nicklas Helenius and Gary Gardner.

Grant Holt scored Aston Villa's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Fulham at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have been hit hard by the injury bug and Grant Holt had to step in to replace the injured Libor Kozak and Christian Benteke. Even though Holt scored, he shouldn't be used in fantasy very often. He is not a great striker and his production is bound to be inconsistent at best. In other news, Ryan Bertrand started the game as a midfielder. He ended the day with only 5 fantasy points but considering he is eligible for clean sheet points, he should be considered for fantasy.

Karim El Ahmadi will likely miss out on Villa's clash against Fulham this Saturday due to a thigh strain.

Villa have been hit hard with the injury bug and they will have to face Fulham with an unexperienced squad. The problem with Villa is, their fantasy production is wildly inconsistent and there aren't many players I would recommend outside of Brad Guzan and Ron Vlaar. The good news is that Nathan Baker is expected to return tomorrow after recovering from an ankle injury.
Apr 4 - 1:55 PM

Gabby Agbonlahor is considered doubtful for Aston Villa's match against Fulham this Saturday due to an illness.

Villa need all the attacking power they can get with Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak both out for the season. It's unknown how Villa will lineup without their two best strikers missing so it's hard to predict how Agbonlahor's role and fantasy production will be affected. On one hand, he will be relied on more for scoring. On the other hand, Villa will likely struggle in attack and there will be less points to be had. I would avoid the Villa attack for now.
Apr 4 - 1:48 PM

In a huge blow to Aston Villa and Belgium, Christian Benteke will have surgery after injuring his achilles in training today. He will miss the rest of the Premier League season and this summer's World Cup.

This is a massive loss for Aston Villa who are still fighting to stay in the Premier League for next season. Benteke was their main source of goals, and while he hasn't been as consistent as he was last season, he's still the fulcrum of their side. We wish Benteke a full, and speedy recovery. In the mean time, with Libor Kozak already out for the season, this will likely hand Grant Holt a chance to start as Villa's central striker. Though that isn't an encouraging development. For Belgium, Romelu Lukaku will have to be the main man this summer.
Apr 3 - 1:43 PM

Christian Benteke is rumored to be the top transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Last summer was full of Christian Benteke rumors and it seems they're starting once again. Aston Villa signed the striker to a long term deal but if the offer is right, they are likely to part ways. Benteke has been quiet this season but has recently started playing well once again, even though the goals aren't coming at the same rate as last year. He has scored three goals in his last four games and will look to add to that tally on Saturday when Villa face Fulham at home.
Apr 2 - 7:46 PM

A superb goal from a free kick gave Aston Villa the early advantage, but it would all go downhill from there for the Lions, as they would fall to Manchester United, 4-1.

It looked like another disorganized back line for the Red Devils early, and a foul from Raphael gave Villa a free kick chance which they converted thanks to Westwood, who got it up and over the wall and past David de Gea. United would begin to control the game from then on but Villa still had opportunities to make a game of it, including a pair of crucial misses by Christian Benteke in the second half. The Lions will attempt to bounce back with a kinder fixture next week as they host lowly Fulham.
Mar 29 - 10:54 AM

Andreas Weimann has recovered from a dead leg and is expected to play against Manchester United on Saturday.

Weimann has averaged less than 2.3 points per game over his last seven games and shouldn't be considered in any league format. He does, however, raise the value of Christian Benteke. Benteke plays better when he has both Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor supporting him and considering his recent form, he can be considered for the match against Manchester.

Karim El Ahmadi faces a late fitness test ahead of Aston Villa's match against Manchester United this weekend.

El Ahmadi is struggling with a hip injury and will have to pass a fitness test to make the game. If he can't make it, Yacouba Sylla will be his most likely replacement. Aston Villa play well away from home because of their counter-attacking style but El Ahmadi and Sylla do not do enough to earn fantasy considerations. Sylla does come at a price of £ 1.9M so he can be considered for a bench role.
Mar 28 - 11:59 AM

Christian Benteke scored Aston Villa's lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Stoke City.

Benteke has been playing well lately but it hasn't always translated well onto the fantasy sheet. He is a risky play but has big upside almost every week. He has scored three goals in his last three games but was help scoreless against Chelsea last time out. Aston Villa travel to Old Trafford next week so I wouldn't recommend Benteke unless you are feeling adventurous.

Joe Bennett got the start last weekend due to Ryan Bertrand not being eligible to face Chelsea and he was impressive from start to finish.

Bennett has a chance to keep his starting job after playing well in the win against Chelsea. That is bad news for Ryan Bertrand owners. Many Bertrand owners have him at £1M and if he loses his starting job, they will have to find another enabler. Check back after the weekend to get an update on the situation.

Karim El Ahmadi has avoided a serious injury after being on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Ramires.

Ramires was sent off for the tackle near the end of the game. The tackle has been described as a "leg breaker" and El Ahmadi should feel lucky to be walking away from this one. His shin was sore after the game but he is expected to be fit for this weekend.

Fabian Delph scored a neat goal, flicking the ball through his own legs and past Petr Cech, to give Aston Villa a suprise 1-0 win against league-leading Chelsea.

Chelsea, who had Willian sent off in the 68th minute, began to get over-run in midfield by Villa's younger, fresher legs. Delph won the ball in the middle of the park, and danced through Chelsea, before finishing off a lovely cross in from Marc Albrighton.
