New Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez will be available to face Newcastle this weekend.

Sanchez is a defensive minded midfielder who isn't likely to stuff the stat-box with goals and assist. His upside is limited to defensive stats such as tackles and interceptions, but as we've seen in the past, those are hard to come by for midfielders. We don't find it likely that Sanchez will be a great fantasy option but there is a small chance he is the next Mile Jedinak.

Aston Villa's Charles N'Zogbia was fairly average in his first match of the season but his fantasy upside remains high.

The Villa midfielder has missed a long time due to injury and this was his first competitive match in over a year. WIth that in mind, he was still able to put a shot on target, win two fouls, and complete a cross for a total of six fantasy points. That was with him only playing 70 minutes. This sort of production should be expected from N'Zogbia and a goal or an assist would have made this a great fantasy day. If he continues to play and take free kicks, N'Zogbia can provide a good fantasy floor with a huge upside.

Alan Hutton made his "second" debut for Aston Villa after being loaned out for the past two years.

Hutton was having trouble making it into Villa's squad in the recent past but has recently returned and been one of Villa's best players in the pre-season. That form continued during the Premier League season as Hutton helped Villa to a clean sheet to start off the season. The 29-year-old says he feels great and is happy to be back in the first team. His 10 fantasy points are on the high end of expectations but we won't be surprised to see him average around 6-8 fantasy points this season.

Andreas Weimann scored to put Aston Villa ahead for good in their 1-0 win over Stoke City.

This was one of the surprising results today as Stoke City have been very consistent at home. On top of that, Aston Villa were missing their big striker options and it's surprising they were able to find a goal. The win is a big one for Aston Villa and will relieve some of the pressure on Paul Lambert, who's been criticized for having a poor summer and poor last few season at Villa Park. Things can only go up from here for Aston Villa as they await the returns of Libor Kozak and Christian Benteke.

Joe Cole has returned to training for Aston Villa ahead of their week one match against Stoke.

Cole has been extremely injury prone in the last few seasons and is already missing time due to injury this year. Aston Villa will be lucky to get ten games out of him this season and the midfielder should be avoided in all fantasy formats. If he does find himself on the pitch for a few weeks in a row, feel free to throw the dice on him in the Yahoo! game, as you can always take him out the following week if he suffers another injury.

Aston Villa has lost another player this summer as midfielder Aleksandar Tonev has moved to Celtic on a loan with an option for the move to become permanent.

The problem with Tonev leaving Villa isn't so much that he was exceptional in his first season at Villa Park but rather than Villa are losing players from a poor squad and not doing much in the way of replacing/upgrading. Philippe Senderos, Joe Cole, Keiran Richardson and Aly Cissokho - Villa's incoming players thus far - reads more like rounding out the bench for a mid-table team than being headline acquisitions. Things are going to be rough for the Villains this season, especially if Benteke doesn't return to form, and quickly.

Aston Villa youngster Daniel Johnson has joined Chesterfield on a three-month loan deal.

Johnson wasn't going to have a fantasy impact to start with but the loan-move ensures he won't be important for fantasy managers. Johnson will hope to eventually establish himself as a Premier League starter but at the moment that looks like it is not coming in the near future. Avoid until further notice.

Aston Villa fielded what looked to be close to a possible XI for their opener next weekend against Stoke City, and could not come up with a goal in a disappointing 0-0 final against Serie A side Parma.

Charles N'Zogbia was handed a start but his promising preseason hit a bump today, as he and his fellow Villans could not create many chances. The match featured the debut of their newest signing, Aly Cissokho, who came on as a 2nd half substitute and will likely be pushing to start the opener. The sharpest attacking player may have been Jack Grealish, who's cameo in the final half hour offered some excitement. Keep him on your watchlist.

Aston Villa has officially announced the capture of Valencia left back Aly Cissokho on a four-year deal.

Needing to replace the departed Ryan Bertrand who was on loan from Chelsea for the second half of last season, Aston Villa have purchased former Liverpool loanee Aly Cissokho. Cissokho failed to make a great impression at Anfield last season but he will likely be given more leeway at Villa Park as there are fewer options available if he fails to impress. Cissokho has to be considered a spot starter at best for fantasy managers considered only when Villa have favorable match-ups.

Aston Villa have been relatively quiet in the transfer market but appear close to signing former Liverpool loanee Aly Cissokho to replace Ryan Bertrand after his loan spell expired.

Aston Villa need to strengthen significantly if they hope to avoid a relegation scrape this season. The club did not play well after Christian Benteke's injury and have done little to inspire hope so far this summer. Anyone who saw Aly Cissokho last season will be hard pressed to improve their opinion of Villa's transfer activities if the Valencia man is the next big move.

Charles N'Zogbia has looked great in Aston Villa's pre-season matches and could be a sneaky fantasy contributor this season.

N'Zognia missed the entire season last year due to a serious achilles injury but the midfielder is back and looks good in pre-season matches. He also scored a spectacular free-kick against Dallas. The free-kick duty combined with Aston Villa's need for creativity and goals could result in N'Zogbia being a productive fantasy asset that comes in at only £4.94M in the Yahoo! Fantasy game.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is confident that Joe Cole will be fit for the start of the season after suffering a thigh injury a friendly earlier this summer.

Cole has been injured more often than not in the past two to three years and it's unknown why Villa even chose to bring him in. The 32-year-old has problems keeping fit and struggled to find pitch time at West Ham last year. We don't recommend him in any fantasy format as his floor and ceiling and both really low. Avoid until further notice.

As expected, Christian Benteke will miss the start of the season as he is still recovering from a torn ACL.

Benteke tore his ACL in April but has been extremely positive in his rehab and believes he can return in less than six months. Villa manager Paul Lambert confirmed that Benteke is ahead of schedule but also ruled him out for the start of the season. Initial reports had Benteke returning around November, so ahead of schedule should make it possible for him to return in late October in the best case scenario.

Libor Kozak is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a leg injury last year but will not be ready for the start of the season.

Kozak suffered a broken leg in January and was initially given a return date around September or October. Villa boss Paul Lambert has stated that Kozak will not be ready for the beginning of the season but is indeed recovering very well and will be back sooner rather than later. We won't be surprised to see him on the pitch in September, but don't expect him to be fully fit until October or November.

Nicklas Helenius leaves Aston Villa to join Aalborg on a season-long loan.

Helenius never established himself at Villa and couldn't even earn playing time after Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak went down for the season. Villa are hoping he can gain some momentum with Aalborg, raising his price so they can at least sell him at a profit. Helenius seems unlikely to be a fantasy relevant Premier League player in the future.
