The Sunday Express reveal that Liverpool are expected to meet the buy-out clause for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

The big Belgium would cost near $50 million and represent Brendan Rodgers’ seventh major purchase of the summer. The arrival of Benteke is likely to see fringe players Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini move on while Mario Balotelli has reportedly been linked with a move to Tyneside although new manager Steve McClaren is not keen. Raheem Sterling will report to pre-season training on Monday but the England winger could complete a move to the Etihad within the next 7-days and former full-back Glen Johnson [released] is believed to be on the verge of a move to West Ham.

Fabian Delph is now strongly linked with Manchester City and SkyBet has him going to the Etihad with odds of 4/7.

Delph will be a great addition to Manchester City's squad as he has shown in the past two season he's a top midfielder in the league. If the move does indeed go through, it will be the first major move by Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa. Selling Delph will give him a solid transfer budget to build his squad to his own liking and try to keep Villa in the Premier League once again. Delph's fantasy value will not change much at Manchester City as he remains a mid-round pick in most leagues.

Yacouba Sylla has left Aston Villa for French club Rennes on a four-year contract.

Sylla hasn't played much for Aston Villa and played on loan at Turkish Club Kayseri Erciyesspor last season. The midfielder hasn't really been good enough to play in the Premier League but he can probably earn plenty of playing time in France. It's a good move for all involved.

Aston Villa will reportedly offer Ciaran Clark a contract extension after a fantastic season by the defender.

Clark was Villa's best defender this season and has impressed Tim Sherwood as well as fans. It seems Sherwood wants to commit to the defender and offer him a contract extension that extends his time at the club. He is currently on a deal that ends next summer, and teams are already after him. Aston Villa would be wise to sign him on a longer deal, as they can only benefit from having him on the books, either as a way to make money in a sale or as a solid piece they can build around.

Time has been called on Andreas Weimann's Aston Villa career with the announcement that he has joined Derby County on a four-year deal.

Tim Sherwood indicated that the club would be letting go of players that weren't up to the task and apparently Andreas Weimann was one of them. The deal, reported to be for £2.75million, ends Weimann's eight year association with Villa after he moved to the Midlands club as a 16-year-old from Austria. With Christian Benteke also potentially leaving Villa Park this summer, Tim Sherwood had better start looking at forwards to bring in.

Rumors have Manchester City set to pursue Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph after their "final" bid for Raheem Sterling was rejected by Liverpool.

Manchester City certainly need to boost their total of home grown players but certainly they aren't going into the transfer window aiming at any England players regardless of position. Replacing Sterling with Delph in their transfer strategy isn't exactly going like-for-like. Making a deal even less likely is the fact that Delph signed an extension at Aston Villa earlier this year. This sounds like brinkmanship in negotiations with Liverpool more so than a serious strategy. City have done crazier things though (see Sagna, Bacary).

Micah Richards' transfer to Aston Villa is official, as the defender signs a four year contract.

Richards has been told by Villa that they are giving him an opportunity to revitalize his career with a crack at a center half role with the club. Assuming Jores Okore is locked in as the future for one of those spots, the offer Villa are making seems to put the future of Ron Vlaar in jeopardy, whose nailed-on status fell apart after a generally disappointing season. He should be on fantasy managers' minds during the upcoming preseason to gauge exactly how he figures into Tim Sherwood's plans.

Reports across the UK have Micah Richards passing a medical at Aston Villa in advance of signing a four-year deal with the club after leaving Manchester City on a Bosman.

Micah Richards is the next in a long line of one-time fringe England hopefuls who have seen their careers stall at a petro-dollar-driven top Premier League club. In Richards' case, his time at City pre-dated the influx of cash, but he was no less marginalized than Shawn Wright-Philips, Wayne Bridge, Joe Cole, Joleon Lescott, Scott Sinclair, or Jack Rodwell in their times at either Chelsea or City. Hopefully, Richards can rebound like Lescott did after leaving for West Brom rather than fading into obscurity as most of the others have.

Andreas Weimann is expected to complete a £2.5m move to Derby.

Weimann is considered surplus to requirements by new Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood and will likely leave the club this summer. Rumors have him moving to Derby at a cost of £2.5m, which sounds about right for the forward. If he somehow remains in the Premier League, he will not be a fantasy option next season, especially under Tim Sherwood. Rumors have Jamie Vardy as a candidate to replace Weimann and/or Christian Benteke if he leaves as well.

Jack Grealish was caught partying a bit too hard in Tenerife during his holiday.

There appears to be an image of Grealish passed out outside of a holiday resort but the image is posted by a twitter user and is unconfirmed. If that is indeed Grealish, this isn't the end of the world as a 19-year-old kid being drunk is not a crime that needs punishment in the Premier League. Grealish should enjoy his vacation while he can as he has lots of work to do when he returns to Aston Villa. The midfielder had a breakout season this year but still has tons to learn and will have to improve this summer if he wants to be Aston Villa's main creative force next season.
Jun 15 - 2:15 AM

Ron Vlaar was on Aston Villa's list of released players this week and will be allowed to move on to a bigger club.

Aston Villa were hopeful they could persuade Vlaar to stay but that wasn't the case and he's been released from the club. He will now be pursued by a number of big clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United. Aston Villa are rumored to be in the lead to sign Micah Richards as his replacement but a deal is not guaranteed as of yet.

Manchester City defender Micah Richards is expected to leave the club during the summer transfer window with Aston Villa leading the chase to sign the former England international.

Richards has just returned to the Etihad following a disappointing season long loan deal at Fiorentina and the defender – who was once touted as the future England captain – is hoping to get his career back on track having started just 16 league games since the beginning of 2012/13. With the future of Ron Vlaar uncertain and fitness concerns over Philippe Senderos and Jores Okore, Richards could prove the ideal fit at Villa Park as Tim Sherwood begins to stamp his own mark on the club. Tom Cleverley ended his season long loan deal while Darren Bent has been allowed to leave along with Enda Stevens. Chris Herd will be assessed throughout the summer as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Ciaran Clark was the best Aston Villa defender this season despite a late injury that ruled him out for the last seven matches.

Clark featured in 29 matches after initially being plugged in for injury relief, but the 25 year old was impressive all year. His biggest knock would be his bookings, 10 of them, including a red card. Outside of his tendency to foul, Clark was impressive and registered 24 blocked shots and 47 passes intercepted. He wasn't a fantasy stud by any means, finishing with 141 Yahoo! points. He goes into next season as a starter but he's a late round fantasy pick at best.
Jun 10 - 5:24 AM

Nathan Baker found a way to improve his form despite a season riddled with injuries.

Baker started the season slow but later improved his composure and looked solid in the second half of his 13 appearances. He helped Aston Villa on the way to four clean sheets and wasn't booked a single time this year. He was solid in a win against Liverpool late in the season and can challenge for a starting spot next season depending on who is left amongst the Aston Villa defenders.
Jun 10 - 5:18 AM

Darren Bent has signed with Derby on a two year deal.

Bent had been out of favour at Aston Villa and only made eight appearances over the past two seasons. His contract just recently expired and he signed with Derby on a free transfer. Bent was once a big money transfer whose career has turned into a disaster and his future Premier League value is non-existent.
