Brad Guzan earned his 100th appearance today when Aston Villa faced Swansea.

He becomes the 10th American to get 100 Premier League matches under his belt. Brad Friedel leads all Americans with 450. Guzan made a crucial error in the match when he failed to challenge Gylfi Sigurdsson's free-kick for the only goal of the match. Despite the error, Guzan remains Villa's number one option between the posts. He is also challenging Tim Howard for Team USA's starting goalkeeper spot for upcoming competitions.

Gabby Agbonlahor has won his red card appeal and will not have to serve a three-match ban.

The forward was sent off during Aston Villa's last match but he has won his appeal and that has been overturned. Gabby has never been sent off in his Premier League career and that remains true. He has not been a great fantasy option this season and despite playing tomorrow, it's hard to consider him in anything other than the deepest of formats.

Paul Lambert wants to secure the services of Tom Cleverley on a permanent deal.

Cleverley is on loan from Manchester United until the end of the year but Aston Villa have the option to make that into a permanent move. The kicker is that the option will expire at the end of January. Lambert wants to get a deal done by that time or risk losing him to a Premier League rival in the summer. The cost to get Cleverley to stay is £7.5million. Look for Villa to spend the money as they need Cleverley in their fight to stay in the Premier League.

American goalkeeper Brad Guzan was exceptional this weekend in Aston Villa's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

Guzan saved an incredible eight shots, including two late in the game after Villa were down to 10 men. The performance is yet another one that supports the view of those who think Guzan should replace Tim Howard at the next World Cup. The American will be 33 years old at that time and will have a solid chance of winning the job.

Fabian Delph was strong in his first start since returning from injury.

Delph came off the bench last week and started this weekend, leading Aston Villa to a point against Manchester United. The midfielder played well and came out with 12 fantasy points. Despite the strong fantasy game, Delph remains an average option at best while still averaging only six fantasy points per game. He is better in real life than in fantasy.

Gabby Agbonlahor was sent off during Aston Villa's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

Agbonlahor committed a tough challenge against Ashley Young on Saturday and was sent off as a result. He will now be serving a three-match ban that will last through gameweek 20 and will be eligible to return in the Premier League against Leicester City on the 10th of January. Christian Benteke takes a slight bump down with Agbonlahor not present to set him up while no other Villa attackers become an option during the suspension.
Dec 21 - 4:38 PM

Christian Benteke scored a goal and was generally strong as Aston Villa picked up a point against visiting Manchester United.

The story of the match was Aston Villa's quality defending in the face of wave after wave of world class attackers and then down a man. Christian Benteke provided the attacking impetus with a beautiful curling goal and a few other strong attempts. Aston Villa were shorthanded due to injury and suspension and will be very happy to have picked up a point against a team that have been churning out wins despite these sorts of mediocre performances.
Dec 20 - 12:07 PM

Fabian Delph is expected to return to Aston Villa's lineup tomorrow and may earn a start.

Delph came off the bench last weekend and should have enough fitness to earn a start tomorrow. He is one of Aston Villa's best players and will provide a huge relief to their struggles this season. Despite his fantastic ability, Delph is not always a great fantasy source due to his lack of scoring. We would avoid him in fantasy until he shows he is healthy and can contribute.

Kieran Richardson went in studs up in the 21st minute and was rightly sent off sentencing Aston Villa to a 1-0 loss.

Aston Villa haven't been very good going forward even when playing even strength. It comes as no surprise that they were unable to score against local rivals West Brom after Kieran Richardson was red cardedearly. Villa mounted a minimal attack and ultimately conceded in the second half on a rebound falling to former Villa man Craig Gardner.
Dec 13 - 12:08 PM

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar might remain on the bench even when he returns to full fitness.

Aston Villa have enjoyed some good form from Jores Okore and Ciaran Clark and manager Paul Lambert won't rush Vlaar back to the starting lineup. With Ron Vlaar possibly leaving in January, we don't blame Lambert for preparing for the future. At the same time, Vlaar playing and showing he is healthy could certainly improve his price on the transfer market.
Dec 12 - 12:09 AM

Belgian striker Christian Benteke has transformed how Aston Villa have looked since he returned from suspension.

The striker was injured to start the season and then got himself suspended a few games into his return. Now that he's back from a three-match ban, he looks like he's in top shape and has made Villa look like a completely different side. He will look to cause West Brom huge problems in the Midlands derby this weekend and he can be a great replacement for the injured Sergio Aguero in fantasy games.
Dec 11 - 12:04 AM

Tom Cleverley became the second Aston Villa player to be replaced during the win over Leicester at Villa Park on Sunday when the Manchester United loanee limped to the sidelines with a foot injury.

The midfielder had been a slight doubt prior to the match but made the starting eleven after passing a late fitness test, however as the game progressed it became evident that Cleverley would be unable to continue. Paul Lambert confirmed he would be assessed on Monday along with team mate Ashley Westwood who will have a scan to determine the extent of his knee ligament injury following a foul by Jamie Vardy. Villa are already struggling defensively because of injury but the good news is that Ron Vlaar returned to full training on Saturday while Philippe Senderos is expected to play again before the end of the year.
Dec 7 - 4:34 PM

Two defenders scored on Sunday in Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Leicester.

Ciaran Clark got the first half equalizer and Alan Hutton got the second half game-winner after conceding the opening goal in the 13th minute to Leicester forward Leonardo Ulloa. There was end to end action thru the entire 90 minutes in this one with Villa having the slight edge in shots on goal (6/4). Villa now sit in 11th place overall while Leicester remain 20th.

Ashley Westwood was stretchered off towards the end of the first half with a left leg injury

Jamie Vardy - who received a yellow card for the incident - went in rather hard, forcing the midfielder's left knee to turn somewhat awkwardly. Westwood went straight to the locker room and was replaced soon after by Kieran Richardson.

American goalkeeper Brad Guzan had a fantastic game against Crystal Palace in midweek.

The USMNT goalkeeper kept a clean sheet to give Aston Villa a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in midweek but probably shouldn't be considered too frequently in fantasy games. He is a fantastic goalkeeper but his defense's inability to keep opponents out is hurting his fantasy value. Use him with confidence against a very poor Leicester side this weekend but look to sell afterwards.
