New Aston Villa signing Carles Gil was phenomenal in Aston VIlla's 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Gil made his Premier League debut off the bench against Liverpool and showed some flair in his first match, but it was his FA Cup appearance that flashed brilliance. Aston Villa are desperate for goals and could use the creativity of the youngster. The 22-year old makes for an interesting stash in season-long and dynasty leagues and could be a great bench option in the Yahoo! game for the rest of the season.

Chris Herd has joined Wigan on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

There are no fantasy implications here and this is just a player who isn't good enough for the Premier League joining a lesser side. Herd is a third or fourth stringer at Villa and will pick up some good experience while on loan.

Fabian Delph has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with Aston Villa.

Delph, who made his England debut in September last year, had been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham with the suggestion Villa may look to sell in January rather than lose him for nothing when his previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season. Delph's new contract will keep him at Villa Park until the summer of 2019, much to the delight of head coach Paul Lambert. "When you get someone like Fabian - who might have had the possibility of going elsewhere to pastures new - to have him commit is a massive, massive coup for us. No-one expected it. I think everyone thought Fabian was going to go and we would have to get someone else in. I don't think anyone saw this coming. But it's been something we've been trying to do, as I have always said. It's great for Aston Villa. It's great for Fabian. I think this is a massive, massive step."

New signing Carles Gil made his debut for Aston Villa as a substitute in the second half of what would result in a 0-2 loss to Liverpool.

Villa are desperate for some creativity and spark in their midfield and after another hour of little threat, Paul Lambert called upon Gil for the game's final third. The new boy quickly added a noticeable dose of flair and nearly worked a successful 1-2 with fellow substitute Andreas Weimann that would have leveled the match at the time but the ball whizzed over the bar. Liverpool would put the game out of reach with a second goal but what Villa showed with Gil on the pitch is promising for their prospects going forward. Though to be fair, they have scored so little this season, any new addition is bound to make things look improved.

Joe Cole looks set to miss out against his former employers after picking up a hamstring strain during last weekends’ defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The attacking midfielder is no stranger to the treatment room having struggled since moving to Villa Park – this latest setback is his fourth muscular problem of the campaign. But Paul Lambert has a number of potential replacements available going into the early kick-off on Saturday as joint leading scorer Andi Weimann will be hoping for a recall while Fabian Delph is available following his suspension - the Claret & Blues manager will also add new signing Charles Gil to the squad. Nathan Baker is set to return following a lengthy absence following a knee injury – the defender is likely to replace the suspended Ciaran Clark with Ron Vlaar and Philippe Senderos still sidelined.

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Valencia attacking midfielder Carles Gil for £3.25 million.

Manager Paul Lambert welcomed the Spain U21 international to Villa Park on Tuesday afternoon after Gil signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Barclays Premier League club. The 22-year-old can operate on either wing or behind the striker, and Lambert hopes he will bring a 'creative spark' after seeing Villa score just 11 goals in 21 Premier League games. The move sees the Spaniard reunited with Colombian defensive midfielder Carlos Sanchez, a former team-mate of his during his loan spell at Elche last season.

Nottingham Forest have signed midfielder Gary Gardner on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

Gardner is reunited with Forest boss Stuart Pearce, who handed the 22-year-old five caps for England Under-21's during his time in charge. He is the second signing Forest have made using their £250,000 Sky Bet Transfer Fund after also capturing Chelsea defender Todd Kane on loan from Chelsea this week. Gardner has made just five first-team starts for Villa and has just returned from a loan spell in the Championship at Brighton, scoring twice in 20 appearances. Pearce said: "We are delighted Gary has agreed to join us until the end of the season. His ability and character will be essential between now and the end of the season."

Ciaran Clark was sent off for getting a second yellow after being a part of a scuffle at the end of the Leicester - Aston Villa match today.

Clark will likely only serve a one match ban during gameweek 22 but it's worth noting that the scuffle continued while the teams were headed to the dressing room so more suspensions might be handed out in the next few days. With Clark and Ron Vlaar both out, Jores Okore and Nathan Baker will likely start at center back for Villa next week.

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar will miss four to six week with a meniscus problem.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert stated on Friday that Vlaar has "just a little meniscus thing and it looks like he will be out for between 4/6 weeks". The good news is that Nathan Baker trained on Thursday and will be available alongside Kieran Richardson, who is returning from suspension.
Jan 9 - 5:34 PM

Darren Bent has joined Derby County until the end of the season on loan.

The 30-year-old striker will officially joined the Rams when they transfer window opened on Saturday. He will not be able to feature in Derby’s FA Cup match against Southport as players must be registered with the FA by midday on Friday – but will be available for the key game against Ipswich at Portman Road on January 10.

Paul Lambert is sweating on the fitness of his influential Captian and defensive stalwart Ron Vlaar after the Dutch international was forced off within 15 minutes of the game against Crystal Palace at Villa Park.

Vlaar having just returned following a month out – calf strain – has been pivotal for the ‘Clarets & Blues’ recently in a solid defensive unit which has only conceded 3 goals in his 5 appearances which included a draw against Manchester United with ten men. This latest setback is said to be similar to the knee injury he suffered during the World Cup in Brazil which kept Vlaar out for almost a month. However Paul Lambert will be able to call upon the services Ciaran Clark and Jores Okore who have formed an excellent partnership following injuries to Nathan Baker [knee] and Philippe Senderos [calf].

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace couldn't find the back of the net and ended in a 0-0 draw.

We've had six draws today but this was one of the less exciting ones. Both teams missed a few chances, most notably Yannick Bolasie who hit the crossbar and Christian Benteke who missed a golden chance. The clean sheet helps fantasy managers who wisely invested in defenders from this match. Crystal Palace are still in the relegation zone but the point was a valuable as they are now only a point away from West Brom.

Tom Cleverley and Ciaran Clark both faces late tests ahead of Aston Villa's Week 20 match against Crystal Palace.

Cleverley is struggling with a foot issue and Clark has a back problem, causing both of them to lack fitness. Neither is expected to play 90 minutes, so you can avoid them in fantasy this weekend. Nathan Baker, Philippe Senderos, Libor Kozak and Ashley Westwood are all ruled out.

Kieran Richardson will return on New Year's Day from a three-match ban.

It's unknown if Richardson will regain his starting spot, and even if he does, he isn't to be considered in the Yahoo! game. His price/upside ratio is too high and there are better options highlighted in Nik's player picks linked below.
Wed, Dec 31, 2014 11:35:00 AM

Gabby Agbonlahor will return from a one-match ban in order to face Crystal Palace this weekend.

Agbonlahor faces Crystal Palace, who weren't as bad without a manager as we thought, but the appeal for home goals is there. We don't recommend Agbonlahor in anything but the deepest formats, but he is an option as he is someone who likes to get forward and can create chances.
