Neil Taylor will be out of action for an unspecified amount of time after the full back fractured his cheekbone in training yesterday.

Taylor will have an operation on his cheekbone but it is unclear how soon he will be back in action. If he is able to play while wearing a protective mask, he may not miss much time at all. Otherwise, it could be several weeks as his face begins to heal. His absence opens the door for Stephen Kingsley to once again attempt to make a good impression, this time for his third manager of the season. Kingsley has shown flashes of fantasy appeal but if playing in a format that relies heavily on clean sheets for defenders, he and the rest of the Swans back line offers little attraction.
Jan 12 - 5:20 AM

Neil Taylor was kept out of the squad for Swansea City's FA Cup loss to Hull City over the weekend, as the full back is nursing a rib injury.

Taylor actually picked up the injury last week in the win over Crystal Palace, leaving that match on 70 minutes. With Stephen Kingsley splitting time at the position this season, Alan Curtis decided to leave Taylor out of the squad altogether against the Tigers, but the Wales international's injury is not thought to be serious and he should be in contention for the Swans next league match against Arsenal on Saturday.
Jan 9 - 6:26 AM

Neil Taylor returned to the Swansea starting line-up on Sunday but his afternoon ended rather abruptly as Francesco Guidolin hauled the Welsh defender off after a torrid opening at the Liberty Stadium.

Following his involvement in Euro 2016, Neil Taylor has found himself on the peripheries of the Swansea squad as Stephen Kingsley stakes his claim for the left-back spot. However, following an appearance in the EFL Cup and 90 minutes for Wales during the break, Taylor was afforded his first start as Guidolin aimed to stifle the Chelsea attack with five at the back. But after a dominate display from the visitors, the Swansea boss decided to change things "as we needed a reaction" which saw Taylor replaced much to his annoyance. There was a frank exchange of words but Guidolin was quick to dispel any notion that his withdrawal had caused any problems: "I chose to change something and I am sorry. He is a good guy. He understood - there's no problem between us."

Neil Taylor looks to be back to full fitness, giving Francesco Guidolin something to think about as Taylor looks to oust Stephen Kingsley from the left back role.

Taylor started and played the full 90 minutes for Wales in a match against Moldova over the international break and looks ready to see league action. He looked to be the left back of choice entering the season before injury allowed Kingsley the shot. Kingsley has put in a couple of fine performances but Taylor signed an new contract during the preseason and will be expecting a chance to regain his role. Those fantasy managers who were able to get use out of Kingsley in the first couple of weeks should be prepared to part ways with him but with the brutal schedule that lies ahead for Swansea, there really is nothing promising about investment from any of their defenders.

The 27-year-old defender has joined Championship side Aston Villa on a three-year contract.

De Laet was part of Leicester City’s Premier League and Championship-winning squads and memorably collected a medal for winning promotion while on loan with Middlesbrough on the same day that Leicester City lifted the top-flight trophy. The full-back will bring needed experience to Roberto Di Matteo's Villa considering he had been a regular for the Foxes during their journey from the Championship to the Premier League. The full-back, who joined Leicester City in 2012 from Manchester United, made a total of 129 appearances for the Foxes.

Neil Taylor, who has been kept out of Swansea City's matchday squad due to a lack of fitness, is pegged to start against Peterborough in Tuesday night's EFL Cup.

The way things are shaping up, Stephen Kingsley looks to start at least one more league game, this weekend against defending champs Leicester, as Francesco Guidolin will surely not want Taylor to go from lacking fitness straight to two starts in five days. It may take an extremely positive display from Kingsley or an extremely negative one from Taylor to prevent the latter from regaining his spot at left back. Taylor may have been dropped in draft leagues and could drop to 4.4m in the FPL game soon. Swansea have a tough schedule ahead but in deep leagues he may be worth an add after Week 3 passes.

AFC Bournemouth club captain Tommy Elphick has called an end to his career at the Vitality to become the first signing of new Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Elphick enjoyed four hugely successful years at the club helping the Cherries climb from League One to the Premier League following his £200k arrival from Brighton. However, the 28-year-old struggled to nail down a place last season due to an ongoing Achilles problem which ultimately required surgery, side-lining Elphick for over four months. Villa dropped down to the second-tier of English football and following his appointment, Di Matteo has moved quickly to start the rebuilding process: "I'm really pleased to bring Tommy to the football Club," said the new Villa boss. "He is a fantastic player and also a fantastic character which is very important. He knows what is required to win promotion to the Premier League from the Championship and that experience will be invaluable." The defender joins for a fee reported to be in the region of £3.6million.

AFC Bournemouth have accepted a £3m bid made by Championship side Aston Villa for the acquisition of center back Tommy Elphick.

The club captain missed a large portion of last season with an ankle injury and recovery from subsequent surgery, making only fourteen appearances for the club in their promotional campaign. For much of his absence, Eddie Howe shifted right back Simon Francis into a center back role, pairing with Steve Cook, opening the door for Adam Smith to play in Francis' normal position. Should Elphick depart to play for Roberto Di Matteo's side, coupled with the release of veteran Sylvain Distin last week, the Cherries will certainly be in the market for a center back and the £3m they would get for Elphick would help pay for it.

The Ireland national team is coming into full fitness at just the right time with James McCarthy and Ciaran Clark back.

The Everton standout midfielder has yet to train with the Irish squad after suffering a thigh injury at the end of the Premier League season. Meanwhile, Clark missed the team's friendly draw with the Netherlands on Friday due to an Achilles injury, but participated in light training on Saturday ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Belarus. While McCarthy is set to return to training on Monday, coach Martin O'Neill said he will likely not be involved in the friendly, but has done enough to be in the 23-man final squad for the European championships this summer.

Aston Villa will face a battle to keep hold of defender Ciaran Clark with West Brom manager Tony Pulis keen to seal a summer move.

West Brom reportedly made a bid last summer to prise Clark away from Aston Villa, but the Irishman signed a five-year contract to remain at Villa Park. However, with Aston Villa relegated, Pulis is expected to make another bid to trigger the 26-year-old's £5 million release clause after locking down Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson to a pair of one-year contracts. The "Express and Star" also reports the Baggies could make a move for versatile Newcastle defender Paul Dummett after the Magpies' relegation.

Aston Villa have been boosted by the news that Jordan Lyden could return to action sooner than originally anticipated after tests revealed his injury is not as bad as first feared.

The young Aussie midfielder, who broke into the first team towards the back end of the season, limped off on the final day amid concerns of a serious knee injury. Caretaker boss Eric Black revealed Lyden had "tweaked his meniscus" post-match on Sunday, but further tests have since confirmed the 20-year-old suffered a thigh injury. Lyden is expected to miss around two-months and barring any setbacks, could return to pre-season training in July with an outside chance of being ready for the Championship opener.

Eric Black could be forced into a change of formation with Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton doubtful for the final game of the season at Arsenal.

Villa earned a credible 0-0 draw with Newcastle in game week thirty-seven with Clark lining up in a back three and Hutton playing in a five man midfield. However, during Fridays’ pre-match briefing, the caretaker boss confirmed that both are struggling due to ankle and calf injuries respectively. Aly Cissokho could return at left-back with Micah Richards partnering Lescott in a 4-4-2 with youngster Kevin Toner retaining his place in the starting XI. Rudy Gestede is back in contention following his return to training but Kieran Richardson and Jordan Veretout are expected to miss out after weeks on the sidelines.

Aston Villa may have been relegated weeks ago, but the Premier League laughing stock showed it still has a role to play in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

The draw and a Sunderland win means Newcastle and Norwich City could be relegated on Wednesday if Sunderland beats Everton. But more importantly for Aston Villa, the club broke a horrendous 11-game losing streak in the Premier League with its first point and first clean sheet since the start of February. Villa youngster Kevin Toner played a crucial part in securing the point, its ninth of 2016, filling in for Aly Cissokho at left-back, in an astonishingly defensive match that featured only two shots on goal, none of which coming from Villa.

Eric Black confirmed Ciaran Clark is ready to return this weekend but Kieran Richardson will remain on the side-lines.

The pair missed last weekends’ home defeat to Southampton after sustaining injuries on the eve of the match, but while Clark has been passed fit for the trip to Vicarage Road – Richardson is struggling to shake off a calf problem. "Ciaran is doing okay now," revealed Black after the defender re-joined the group in training on Thursday. "Apart from that, Kieran Richardson hasn't recovered in time from his calf injury." Micah Richards is facing a race against time to be fit for this weekend: "We will see if he is ready," said the caretaker boss.

Bournemouth had lots of chances early but could only score one as Chelsea roared past them for a 4-1 win.

Yes, it's true, it is possible to use the word profligate about a team other than Arsenal. The Cherries deserved the tag early against Chelsea and they ended up paying for it. Cesc Fabregas was masterful and Eden Hazard was resurgent as the reigning champions hung four on Eddie Howe's men
