Antonio Conte has revealed Alvaro Morata will be in the squad for Chelsea's Champions League Group C match against Roma on Wednesday.

Morata missed the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend after he suffered a hamstring injury against Manchester City shortly before the international. Reports had suggested the Spain international could be out for 4-6 weeks, but his recovery has been much faster than initially anticipated. The 24-year-old took part in full training with the rest of the squad on Tuesday and will be available for the clash against Roma at Stamford Bridge. Considering Michy Batshuayi was rendered ineffective in Saturday's defeat to Palace, it's possible Morata could return to the starting XI: "I'm not taking a risk if I decide for Morata to play against Roma," Conte said in his pre-match press conference. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be without Victor Moses (hamstring), N'Golo Kante (hamstring) and Danny Drinkwater (calf).

The latest reports suggest Victor Moses will miss the next month, at least, after limping off at Selhurst Park with a suspected hamstring strain.

The wing-back was handed a recall against the leagues bottom side on Saturday but lasted less than 45 minutes after being forced off before the interval clutching the back of his right thigh. Moses was immediately ruled out of the Champions League tie against Roma, while tests to ascertain the severity of his injury are ongoing. "For sure Moses is out because of his injury," Conte revealed. "I don’t know if it’s serious, I hope not." He joins a growing injury list which includes Danny Drinkwater [calf] and N’Golo Kante [hamstring] while it is hoped that Alvaro Morata can recover in double quick time after he was diagnosed with a grade two myofascial hamstring injury. Former Torino and Italian national team full-back Davide Zappacosta is expected deputise for the hamstrung Moses.

It’s been a rough few weeks for Chelsea and things took a turn for the worse on Saturday with the news that N’Golo Kante is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The France international was forced off after just 34 minutes of the World Cup qualifier in Bulgaria and although the extent of problem is not yet known, Didier Deschamps immediately ruled Kante out of his country’s final game against Belarus: "He came out with a muscle problem, behind a thigh, he will not be there Tuesday." Tests remain ongoing but the setback will be a major concern for Antonio Conte who is still reeling from the injury sustained by forward Alvaro Morata. Following the unexpected departure of Nemanja Matic to rivals Manchester United, Chelsea splashed in excess of £27 million on Danny Drinkwater, however his career at Stamford Bridge is yet to take off due to injury. And, even if the 27-year-old can recover in time for this weekend, Conte is unlikely to risk the former Leicester midfielder given his severe lack of match fitness.

Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi will be looking forward to his chance as the club's lone striker in the following month.

The Belgian international has scored five goals this season in all competitions despite only making one Premier League start, but with leading scorer Alvaro Morata set to miss the next few weeks with a hamstring injury, Batshuayi said he is relishing the opportunity to get his chance for the Blues: "It sounds strange to say, but someone's bad luck is sometimes the happiness of the other. I know that I will have more playing opportunities in the coming weeks. It's up to me to show that I'm capable. I know Conte has confidence in me. Otherwise, he would have let me leave during the summer."

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says Victor Moses did not feature in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City because the Nigeria international needed rest.

Antonio Rudgier, Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen started in central defense and Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta as wingbacks against Pep Guardiola’s side. While the defensive changes appeared to be a tactical attempt to slow down the dangerous Manchester City attack, Conte explained his decision to leave Moses on the substitute's bench was purely to give the right wingback rest amid fixture congestion. "To play three games in seven days is not simple, above all for our wing-backs," Conte explained. "Moses played two whole games against Stoke [City] and Atletico...because Moses for us is an important player, and to play three games in only seven days, it means that you risk."

Antonio Conte has been a dealt a huge blow with the news that Alvaro Morata could be out for longer than originally anticipated.

The Chelsea striker limped off against Manchester City on Saturday, but speaking after the 1-0 defeat, Conte was hopeful the injury would not keep Morata out long-term: "It’s a muscular problem. I don’t think it’s serious," he said. "Coach I prefer to stop, otherwise I risk having a bad injury." There was a suggestion that Morata would return for the clash with Crystal Palace on October 14, however, following further tests in Spain, it now looks like he will be sidelined throughout October after he was diagnosed with a "grade two myofascial injury." Although a return within a fortnight cannot be ruled out, a return to action is highly unlikely, and a more realistic time frame would be 4-6 weeks, possibly even up-to two months. With Morata out, Michy Batshuayi could be handed his chance to shine in the next seven league and European matches.

Chelsea will have more to worry about that just a drop in the table following a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at home.

That's because the club's leading scorer in Alvaro Morata left the match in the first half with a hamstring injury. The Spanish international pulled up and immediately signaled to the bench in the 35th minute, which will cause serious worry among Chelsea fans after his golden start to the season with six goals; however, the international break next week will allow at least a week of rest. It got worse for the Blues as former midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, once cast out by Jose Mourinho, returned to Stamford Bridge to score the match-winner in the 67th minute.

Michy Batshuayi scored in added-time as Chelsea fought back to secure a 2-1 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday.

Despite dictating the pace and tempo for much of first-half, Chelsea found themselves behind at the break. The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute when Antoine Griezmann converted a spot-kick after David Luiz pulled down Lucas Hernandez on the preceding corner kick. Though Chelsea trailed after the restart, Antonio Conte's men stepped up the pressure and found equalizer in the 60th minute. Eden Hazard proved the cross for Alvaro Morata who made no mistake with his tidy glancing header. With the match headed for a draw Batshuayi, on for Morata in the 82nd, stabbed home a Marco Alonso cross in added time to hand the Blues a memorable, but deserved, win. The result sends Chelsea top of Group C, on seven points, while Atlético drop to third.

Alvaro Morata is surely going to the apple of fantasy manager's eye in the upcoming week after a hat-trick on Saturday.

Morata led the way for Chelsea to bring the club into third place on 13 points in a 4-0 win against Stoke City. The Real Madrid product, who is now joint-top of the goalscoring charts with six goals, opened the scoring in the first 90 seconds after latching onto a pass over the top of the defense from Cesar Azpilicueta. After Pedro doubled the Blues' lead in the 30th, Morata had to wait until the 77th minute to score his second, after beating two defenders down the left and chipping the keeper. Just five minutes later, the Spaniard added his third after Azpilicueta passed across the box for Morata's tap-in.

Chelsea have been handed a double boost with the news that Pedro and Tiemoue Bakayoko will be available for Saturday's visit from Stoke City.

Pedro has recovered from an ankle which force him to be withdrawn at half-time against Arsenal on Sunday, while Bakayoko has been declared fit after the midfielder was involved in a car accident on Thursday. Danny Drinkwater will miss out as he continues to recover from a calf and David Luiz will serve the first game of his three-match ban, but Eden Hazard could be given his first league start of the campaign. The Belgian recorded two assists and played 90 minutes in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest in midweek. Should Antonio Conte decide to name either Pedro or Hazard to the substitute's bench, then Willian could make the starting XI.
Sep 22 - 8:16 PM

Eden Hazard made his first start of the season in the club's 5-1 win in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest.

The Belgian midfielder sustained an ankle injury in June while on international duty, causing him to miss three months before returning earlier this month. However, manager Antonio Conte wanted to ease Hazard back into the starting XI, which he finally did as he completed the full match Wednesday. The winger recorded two assists for the Blues, helping MIchy Batshuayi secure a hat-trick in the process. Said Conte: "I hope to be with him at the final step from his injury. In my [playing] career I was injured a lot and I have a bit of experience. With him, we are managing the situation well...Eden is a top player, and he improved a lot. He can continue to improve in his career and become one of the best."

Sep 20 - 5:42 PM

Antonio Conte confirmed that Pedro Rodriguez was forced off against Arsenal after sustaining an ankle injury.

The Chelsea winger was on the receiving end of a heavy Nacho Monreal challenge early in the game, which left him requiring lengthy treatment. Although he managed to see out the remaining minutes of the half, he failed to appear after the break and Conte revealed Pedro "wasn’t 100 per cent fit" after taking a kick on his ankle. "For this reason, I decided to make a substitution. We have to check with the doctor, but I hope this problem is not serious." The 30-year-old is certain to miss the Carabao Cup tie against Nottingham Forest, and if he fails to recover for the trip to Stoke on Saturday, then Conte will have a decision to make. Should Eden Hazard comes through tomorrow unscathed, then the Belgium star could be in line for his first Premier League start of the season following his recovery from a fractured ankle.
Sep 18 - 5:43 PM

Chelsea found themselves evenly matched with Arsenal and was held goalless at home for the first time in ages as the rivals played to a 0-0 final at Stamford Bridge.

Considering this match had superstars Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez beginning the day on the bench and with no goals to be had, this was still an intriguing match. Chelsea looked like they might go ahead first, when Cesc Fabregas picked out Pedro with a superb pass and Pedro was 1 v 1 with Petr Cech but could not beat the keeper. Victor Moses offered plenty of threat down the right flank, whipping in crosses, and Alvaro Morata was active in and around the box, but Arsenal would not allow the Blues space when it came time to test the target. Arsenal looked more poised to score as the second half wore on, but they could not take advantage of a straight red card picked up by David Luiz for a rash challenge on Sead Kolasinac. The Blues take a point but lose ground on Manchester City, who are looking the front runners to take the title from London.

Summer signing Davide Zappacosta scored a stunning strike and Michy Batshuayi bagged a brace as Chelsea marked their Champions League return with a 6-0 win over Qarabag on Tuesday night.

Antonio Conte's side needed just five minutes to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge when Pedro curled a fine effort from outside of the box into the top right corner of the net. Zappacosta then doubled the lead with long-range rocket, catching the Qarabag keeper off his line for his first goal since arriving from Torino this summer. Chelsea's night got even better after the restart, as Cesar Azpilicueta and substitute Tiemoue Bakayoko both found the net before Batshuayi added two more to ensure the positive Group C result. The offensive display comes as a timely boost ahead of Sunday's clash with Arsenal.

Danny Drinkwater is expected to miss the game with Qarabag on Tuesday after sustaining a calf injury in training.

The England international was an unused substitute on Saturday but had been pencilled in to make his debut in the Champions League as Antonio Conte looks to shuffle his pack. "There is the necessity to rotate and play game by game," he told reporters during today’s pre-match briefing. "We played a tough game against Leicester, we spent a lot of energy. To play seven games in 21 days is not easy. For this reason, it’s normal to prepare some rotations." Drinkwater arrived at the club on deadline day and is yet to play this season after missing the opening weeks due to a niggling thigh complaint. However, the Blues will welcome back captain Gary Cahill who returns following his sending-off - for dangerous play - on the opening weekend.
