Eden Hazard played in a match against QPR at Chelsea's training ground on Thursday, but manager Antonio Conte isn't expected to risk the playmaker against Tottenham on Sunday.

While Tiemoue Bakayoko could be in the mix this weekend, Conte appears set to take a difference stance with Hazard. The Belgian international just recently returned to full training in his bid to recover from an ankle fracture and, though he wasn't technically ruled out of the Week 2 affair at Wembley, doesn't appear to be in Conte's game plan. This means Alvaro Morata will lead the attack, with Willian and Michy Batshuayi most likely in support against Spurs. Conte added: "Hazard is improving but to be fully fit he needs time. We must have patience with him and try to do the best for him."

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed that Tiemoue Bakayoko could be available for Chelsea's match against Tottenham at Wembley.

Bakayoko has not featured for the senior side since joining from Monaco this summer due to a knee operation, but could be rushed into action this weekend with Cesc Fabregas suspended. The absence of Fabregas leaves just one natural option in central midfielder, N'Golo Kante, which Conte admitted could force him to include Bakayoko in his matchday squad: "The only worry is when you try to put players in very soon, the risk to have another injury is high, this is my worry. But we have to face this situation and we have to take some risks." Though the French international isn't fully fit, he could potentially feature as a sub or in the starting XI. Should Conte opt against risking his £40m signing, David Luiz or Andreas Christensen could start alongside Kante.

Pedro remains in doubt for Sunday's match with Tottenham after he reported pain in his ankle during training on Friday.

The Spanish attacker missed out on the 3-2 defeat by Burnley last weekend with an ankle knock and had hoped to make his season debut at Wembley this Sunday. However, the 30-year-old will likely miss out again having experienced discomfort in his ankle when he trained on Friday. Pedro's absence should see Willian retain his place in the starting XI alongside either Michy Batshuayi or Jeremie Boga. Meanwhile, Alvaro Morata is expected to make his first Premier League start.

Fulham have confirmed Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon has undergone successful surgery after suffering a fracture dislocation on his right ankle.

Piazon re-joined Fulham on loan for a second successive season, having made 33 appearances for the Cottagers last term. However, the Brazilian was substituted in the 35th minute against Leeds United on Tuesday night after a challenge by defender Conor Shaughnessy. Piazon, who suffered a broken jaw while playing for Fulham against Cardiff in February, will now undergo rehab in the coming months, although there is no timeline on the recovery period for the 23-year-old.

Chelsea have been handed a huge boost by the return of playmaker Eden Hazard to full first-team training, as the Belgium international continues to work his way back from a fractured ankle.

The 26-year-old opted for off-season surgery on his right ankle after suffering the injury while on international duty in June. While Hazard is still expected to miss a handful of matches, with Antonio Conte yet to announce a potential return date for his star, his impending return is certainly a boost of confidence after the 3-2 defeat against Burnley at the weekend. For the duration of Hazard's absence, Wilian and Michy Batshauyi will compete for a place in the starting XI. Meanwhile, summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko was also spotted on the training pitch but won't likely be ready for this weekend's clash with Tottenham.

Reports claim that Chelsea expect Diego Costa to return to the club, return to training, get match fit and put himself in contention for selection.

The news comes after Costa revealed he has been fined two weeks' wages by Chelsea for failing to return to pre-season training with the club, and said he is happy to stay in Brazil and pay fines until a move away from the club is sealed. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Costa said: "If I have to, I will stay in Brazil. I am open to being a year in Brazil without playing, even if Chelsea fine me for a year and don't pay me." While Chelsea has labelled the Spanish striker's conduct as unacceptable, Costa accuses the club of treating him like a 'criminal' and refuses to rule out legal action: "If I was in the wrong, I'd go back now and do as they say." With no resolution in sight, the chances Costa returning look slime to none.

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is set to miss the next three matches after his straight red card against Burnley on Saturday.

The 31-year-old was issued a straight red for his reckless studs-up challenge on Steven Defour in the 14th minute of the Premier League champions' season opener. The England international will now miss the trip the Tottenham at the weekend and the following fixture at home against Everton, before the match at Leicester after the international break. While Antonio Conte will be boosted by the return of Victor Moses from his suspension, the absence of Cahill leaves the Italian boss with a void in the center of the pitch. Andreas Christensen will be favored to deputize for Cahill, who will be eligible to return against Arsenal on September 17.

Chelsea face the prospect of having only one recognized central midfielder available against Tottenham on Sunday, with Cesc Fabregas suspended and Tiemoue Bakayoko in dobut.

In the wake of Saturday's loss to Burnley, which saw Gary Cahill (straight red) and Fabregas (two yellows) sent off, manager Antonio Conte has been left in a selection crisis for the crucial clash against Spurs next weekend. With the Spaniard suspended, Bakayoko still not match fit, and the departures of Namanja Matic, Nathaniel Chalboah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N'Golo Kante is the only fit central midfielder available for the trip to Wembley. The lack of cover means Conte may move David Luiz into midfield and draft in an extra defender, opening the door for Andreas Christensen to potentially make his first ever Premier League start.

Chelsea botched the start to their title defense season as they suffered a 3-2 defeat by Burnley at Stamford Bridge, which saw both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas sent off.

Antonio Conte's nightmare began with the dismal of Cahill after just 14 minutes when he lunged in with a high cleat challenge on Steven Defour. Following Cahill's marching orders Burnley kicked into high gear, with Sam Vokes scoring goals on either side of Stephan Ward's to take a 3-0 lead into half-time. The second half brought change as big-money signing Alvaro Morata scored in the 69th minute to bring back a glimmer of hope. However, the comeback was stunned as Fabregas saw red in the 81st, before David Luiz scored late on courtesy of a Morata assisted. Conte will need to go back to the drawing board ahead of next week's trip to Tottenham, with Cahill and Fabregas both suspended but Morata's performance a sliver lining.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will deploy a reshuffled defense against Burnley on Saturday with wingback Victor Moses suspended.

Moses is unavailable with a suspension having picked up a red card against Arsenal in the FA Cup final at the end of last season. This means Cesar Azpilicueta will likely deputize for Moses at right-wingback, while Antonio Rudiger could be handed his full Chelsea debut alongside David Luiz and Gary Cahill at center back. When asked if Rudiger will start at his pre-match press conference, Antonio Conte said: "(Rudiger) Yes, could be. The reason Moses will miss for one game. Could be an opportunity to start the game for Rudiger." While Moses' absence means the Premier League champions will deploy a changed defense, a clean sheet looks likely against a Burnley side that poor away from Turf Moor last season.

Chelsea forward Pedro has been ruled out of the Premier League champions' season opener against Burnley on Saturday.

The Spaniard will miss out on the clash at Stamford Bridge having failed to recover from an ankle injury he suffered during the Community Shield loss to Arsenal last weekend. "Pedro is not available tomorrow because he's suffering from an injury, during the Arsenal game," Conte said at his pre-match conference. "He wasn't able to recover from this injury. It is a knock in his ankle." The absence of Pedro leaves manager Antonio Conte shorthanded with Eden Hazard (ankle fracture) and Tiemoue Bakayoko (knee) also injury, and wingback Victor Moses suspended. Willian is expected to replace Pedro in the starting XI, while highly rated youngster Charly Musonda could see some minutes off the bench. In terms of fantasy impact, Willian is worth a look in all formats.

Self-proclaimed fantasy expert Nik Argiropoulos is tipping Chelsea's Willian to shine against Burnley on the opening weekend.

A great finisher, creative, skillful and hard-working; all qualities possessed by Willian and the reason he won both of Chelsea's player of the year awards in 2016. The Brazilian was extremely unlucky to lose his regular starting spot to Pedro in Antonio Conte's debut season but he'll have the opportunity to start this one in the absence of Eden Hazard. Expect him to be doing anything and everything he can to put himself in an undroppable position when Hazard returns, which should translate to some big fantasy points this weekend and through the rest of August.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa is expected to hand in a formal transfer request as he attempted to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

The news come after Costa's lawyer, Ricardo Cardoso, told Spanish news agency EGE that the 28-year-old forward intends to 'formally request a transfer' way from the Premier League champions. "We are going to use all legal mechanisms to hold Chelsea accountable for this behaviour, making it possible for Diego Costa to leave," Cardoso said to EFE. Although nothing has been agreed, Sky Sports New claim that Atletico Madrid remains Costa's desired destination. Given the arrival of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid and emergence of Michy Batshuayi, an exit seems increasingly more likely for the Spanish international.

Antonio Conte confirmed Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko will both miss the Community Shield clash against Arsenal this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the curtain raiser, the Chelsea boss went onto add that both players are also expected to remain sidelined for the Premier League encounter with Burnley six days later. While the news on Hazard comes as no surprise, the Belgium star isn’t due back until September based on his initial timeline, there was hope that Bakayoko could recover from minor knee surgery to be ready for the opener. Victor Moses is pencilled in to start at Wembley, but Conte must consider his options ahead of week one as the winger will serve a one match ban carried over from 2016/17. A late decision on Alvaro Morata’s involvement will be made as he continues to build fitness following his arrival from Real Madrid and Pedro is expected to feature having recovered from concussion but wearing a protection mask after fracturing his cheekbone two weeks ago.
Aug 4 - 9:23 AM

Antonio Conte reveals Alvaro Morata "needs to improve his fitness quickly" or the former Real Madrid attacker risks missing this weekend’s Community Shield game at Wembley.

The Chelsea manager was speaking ahead of this season's curtain raiser against Arsenal: "Morata is just starting to train with us," said Conte. "He has to improve his condition a lot to adapt quickly into our team. He is working well but it has been only five days. Today, he tried to do his best but for sure he has to improve." If he does miss out, then Michy Batshuayi, who has staked his claim in pre-season, looks to be a shoo-in for the visit of Burnley in game week one with Diego Costa poised to leave the club. Another new signing is also battling to be fit for Sunday. Tiemoue Bakayoko is recovering from minor knee surgery, but reports from France suggest the midfielder is slightly ahead of schedule and he could make the Blues squad.
