Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas failed to get on the score sheet for Chelsea for the first time in five games to start the season.

Up until Sunday's clash with Manchester City, Costa had scored and Fabregas had assisted in every single game this season. With that said, Costa still leads the PL in goals with seven and Fabregas still leads the league in assists with six. There are going to times in which these two players do not produce, but this isn't a sign of things to come. Barring injury, Costa (61 percent owned) is a must-own player with 87 points in Yahoo's Fantasy premier league game. He leads the next closest player by 20 points. Fabregas (28 percent owned) is tied for 11th with 52 total points, and in my opinion, is also a must-own. Look for them both to bounce back this weekend at home against Aston Villa despite the team's No.3 overall ranking.

Chelsea were given a man advantage after Manchester City defender was sent off in the second half and promptly scored, but a dramatic equalizer by former club legend Frank Lampard left the two sides even in a 1-1 draw.

As expected, the two strong sides played each other tight from the get go, with yellow cards racking up much more frequently than attempts on goal. Once Zabaleta was sent off though, things opened up for Chelsea and a counter attack saw Eden Hazard deliver a low, accurate cross to Schurrle at the back post for an easy tap in. Diego Costa was finally shown to be human, having a rare off day as he perhaps continues to feel the pangs of a nagging hamstring injury.

In what was an interesting move by Jose Mourinho, Didier Drogba started Chelsea's 1-1 against Shalke in the Champions League.

The good news here is that Diego Costa came off the bench and all facts point to him starting against Manchester City this weekend. It's clear Jose Mourinho wants to win both the Premier League and Champions League and Costa being fresh for Manchester City is a great way to help your team. Diego Costa has the toughest matchup possible but he still remains a lethal choice for fantasy owners. Must start every week.

John Terry scored an own goal to open up the scoring at Stamford Bridge today but it was irrelevant as the Blues topped Swansea City 4-2.

Swansea looked very impressive in the beginning, pushing Chelsea back and forcing the own goal. They also missed a few other chances that could have increased their lead. The missed chances ended up hurting them, as Diego Costa went on a scoring spree and finished them off in the second half. There is still some concern about Chelsea's defense, but their incredible scoring record this season has pushed them to first place, three points clear of second place Swansea.

Diego Costa scored his first Premier League hat-trick in Chelsea's 4-2 win over Swansea City.

Costa has started this Premier League season in spectacular fashion. He already has seven goals in his first four matches, two more than Fernando Torres scored in 28 matches last season. Costa and teammate Cesc Fabregas have formed a lethal connection that has put Chelsea three points clear at the top of the table. Costa is worth owning in all fantasy formats and should be starting in your lineup every single week.

Diego Costa has been penciled in for a late fitness check ahead of Chelsea's match against Swansea tomorrow.

Last time this happened, Costa scored twice to ruin the week of all fantasy managers who benched him. We think the probability of Costa coming off the bench is low compared to him starting or missing out entirely and thus we think it's safe to start him in fantasy as long as you have a competent backup. Chelsea don't have any other injury concerns. Obviously, if Costa starts, he's a top play this week.

Chelsea's Andre Schurrle could be a good midfield option to focus on as Swansea visit Stamford Bridge in Week 4.

If you're looking to supplement Cesc Fabregas, or even looking for an alternative in your fantasy midfield then we'd take a look at Schurrle. The German winger will come up against Neil Taylor, who struggled against Adnan Januzaj in Week 1 and was subbed after an early booking, so expect Jose Mourinho to explore that potential weakness in the Swansea defence.

Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new deal with Chelsea that will keep him in London for another five years.

The defender took over Ashley Cole's left-back job last year and has been a regular at the position despite being a natural right-back. The club brought in Felipe Luis, who could eat into some of Azpilicueta's minutes, but we expect Azpi to be the main option in important matches. That could cause a drop in playing time in the Premier League when the Champions League matches role around. Azpilicueta is a great fantasy choice as he provides both attacking points and a high chance of clean sheets but we recommend for you to have a quality backup available when featuring the Spanish defender.

New signing Felipe Luis is struggling to find playing time at Chelsea.

The defender was brought in to strengthen Chelsea's defense but he hasn't been able to break into the starting XI with Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta playing very well. There is also the fact that Luis has had problems getting fit after joining the squad late in the summer, but we don't believe he will establish a fully consistent role with the club this season. The most likely scenario is a time-share between him, Ivanovic, and Azpilicueta.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard is expected to be fit for the Blues' home match against Swansea this weekend after recovering from a minor injury.

The winger has been playing great this season as the load off of him has lessened with the arrival of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa. The Belgian midfielder is free to roam and attack the goal whenever he gets the chance. Despite that, his price exceeds his value in the Yahoo! fantasy game. The Yahoo! game doesn't reward players for chances created and Hazard just doesn't score or assist enough to match his price consistently. Use him in plus match-ups but avoid using him as a weekly starter. The Swansea match at home is a plus match-up.

Egypt boss Shawky Gharib is disappointed with Mohamed Salah's lack of playing time at Chelsea this season.

The Egypt boss went ahead and blamed it in part for his team's defeat by Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The lack of playing time is a big issue for Salah, who is behind Oscar, Eden Hazard, Willian, Ramires, and Andre Schurrle in the Chelsea pecking order, making him an unlikely choice to get significant playing time at any point this season. The playing time dilemma forced Kevin de Bruyne to seek a transfer back to Germany last season and Salah could be the next in line to force a move out. Unless he lands on another Premier League team in January, Salah isn't going to be a fantasy option this season.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is set to sign a new deal with the club.

Courtois beat out Petr Cech for the starting job in pre-season and has been very solid for the Blues in goal this year. He conceded three goals against Everton in a high scoring affair but it was Chelsea's defense that should take the blame. Courtois is a fine fantasy option any given week and should be used in all fantasy formats this season. The new deal is confirmation that Chelsea believe in him and he should have no problem running with the job all season long.

Jose Mourinho is sweating on the fitness of Diego Costa after the Spanish striker limped out of Thursday’s international friendly defeat to France.

The Spanish Football Federation today released a short statement advising the Chelsea star will miss the European Championship qualifier with Macedonia because of an injury to the left hamstring which was confirmed by a private clinic and detected using an MRI scanner. This latest blow adds to an ever growing list of muscular problems with Diego Costa having just recovered from a similar issue in his right hamstring last weekend. Jose Mourinho will be concerned given the players recent history and despite the signing of Loic Remy his Chelsea squad are still a little lightweight up front after the departure of Fernando Torres. All findings and imaging will be fully evaluated at the club to determine the extent of any potential lay-off.
Sep 5 - 7:18 PM

Middlesbrough have signed Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on loan.

This is the 26th player Chelsea have sent out on loan this summer. The Blues are doing great business this summer and the loan moves are allowing their players to increase their stock before being sold. They certainly don't need Blackman with Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech on the roster and he should make a good signing for Middlesbrough.
Sep 1 - 6:16 PM

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has completed a year-long loan to Italian club AC Milan.

van Ginkel was behind on the pecking order at Chelsea and wouldn't have seen much playing time this year behind Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, Ramires, and John Obi Mikel. The 22-year-old should get a good run at AC Milan and earn some very important first team experience while he is there. van Ginkel is a very highly rated prospect by Chelsea and should be a major part of their team going forward, just not this year.
