Marcos Alonso will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton on Sunday after being handed a three-match retroactive ban for violent conduct.

The incident occurred in the first-half of Chelsea's 3-2 Premier League win at Southampton on Saturday when TV footage showed Alonso catching Shane Long with his studs up. The 27-year-old denied the charge and further said that if proven guilty the suspension would excessive, but his appeal was rejected following an independent commission hearing on Wednesday. In his absence against Burnley on Thursday, Emerson was handed his first PL start. Alonso will be eligible to return on May 6 against Liverpool, meaning he will miss Sunday's FA Cup semi-final clash with Southampton and trip to Swansea City next weekend.

Chelsea continued their push for a top-four finish with a crucial 2-1 win at Burnley on Thursday.

Antonio Conte made six changes from the side that beat Southampton at the weekend. Eden Hazard dropped to the bench, Emerson was brought in for Marcos Alonso, and Olivier Giroud paired with Alvaro Morata in a two-man attack. Chelsea took the lead on 20 minutes when Victor Moses' cross deflected off Burnley defender Kevin Long and over the line for an own-goal. After Alvaro Morata missed a one-on-one chance with Nick Pope earlier in the second-half, the Clarets equalized when Johan Berg Gudmunddson's shot took a deflection off Ashley Barnes and nestled into the bottom corner. However, the visitors got the decisive goal five minutes later. Emerson provided the cross for Moses, who collected the ball and smashed it home at the near post. Chelsea now trail fourth-placed Tottenham by five points with four matches remaining.

Chelsea may have to do without its star fullback in Marcos Alonso if he is proven guilty of violent conduct.

The FA has officially issued the Spaniard with a charge of violent conduct after reviewing a late challenge from behind on Shane Long in Chelsea's 3-2 comeback win on Saturday over Southampton. If found guilty, Alonso would miss at least three games and potentially more depending on whether the committee finds his actions worthy of a more serious punishment. Southampton manager Mark Hughes took offense to the challenge, calling it reckless: "Shane's got a gash down the calf, having seen it again there's a clear red card. There's clear intent to hurt Shane, it was raked down the back of the calf. It's a dangerous tackle and could have broken his leg, in my view, and how the three officials who were near it all missed it was a mystery to me."

Olivier Giroud, who has had a knack for delivering off of the bench in recent seasons, did so again today in dramatic fashion, as his brace led Chelsea from two down to a 2-3 win at Southampton.

Southampton were in control with twenty minutes left to play, but the Blues struck three times in an eight minute span to grab the win. In the first half, both sides had their chances but the Saints would take the lead and Chelsea were lucky to have Marcos Alonso escape what looked like a foul worthy of a straight red. Despite the Saints doubling the lead on the hour mark, Giroud's presence turned the game quickly. First, he headed home a ball from Alonso on 70 minutes. Five minutes later, Eden Hazard struck from close range after a low cross from Willian. Moments later, the turnaround was complete as Giroud put away a failed clearance. The defense continues to struggle but Chelsea showed today that their attack is capable of exploding at any moment.

Cesar Azpilicueta's opener was cancelled out by Javier Hernandez midway through the second-half as Chelsea drew 1-1 with West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues welcomed back Thibaut Courtois and captain Gary Cahill in central defense, with Andreas Christensen dropped to the bench. The home side was lively in the early stages as Alvaro Morata went close with an inventive backheel before Willian forced a strong save from West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart. Chelsea, though, found the breakthrough on the resulting corner. Moses crossed for Morata who headed the ball across goal for Azpilicueta, who did well to control the ball with a flick and poked it home past Hart. Despite dominating the match, Chelsea paid the price late when Hernandez scored just three minutes later his introduction on 70 minutes. Marcos Alonso and substitute Olivier Giroud went close in the final stages, but Hart produced a pair of acrobatic saves. With six matches remaining, Chelsea trail fourth-placed Tottenham by 10 points.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has confirmed that both Pedro and Thibaut Courtois could be fit for Sunday's London derby clash with West Ham United.

Pedro did not feature in last weekend's home defeat to Tottenham with a "physical problem" but is back in contention, while Courtois could make his comeback after recovering from a hamstring injury. "Pedro and Courtois could be back [in contention]," Conte said his pre-match press conference. "We have two days to check the physical condition of the players, so we will see then." Alvaro Morata's return to form means Pedro may have to settle for a place on the bench, with Eden Hazard and Willian likely to start on the wings, but Courtois should start if fit. Davide Zappacosta could also return to the matchday squad, but David Luiz (knee) and Ethan Ampadu (ankle) are both ruled out.

Chelsea have been boosted by the return of Thibaut Courtois, Pedro Rodriguez and Davide Zappacosta to full training.

All three missed Sundays home defeat to Tottenham and Antonio Conte will be hoping that the trio can come through the remaining sessions unscathed to force their way back in contention for the visit of London-rivals West Ham United. While the absence of Courtois [hamstring] last weekend came as no surprise, there had been no mention other doubts prior to the game, and it wasn’t until Conte spoke after the 3-1 loss that we finally found out the reason behind Pedro’s and Zappacosta’s omission. "The bench was how it was - Zappacosta has been carrying a tendon problem and yesterday he didn't change," he told reporters. "Pedro had this physical problem on Friday, but this is how it is." Ross Barkley is also hoping to be included after his hour long run out for the under-23 side at Derby on Saturday.

Alvaro Morata got the Blues ahead early but it was the only bright spot in a 3-1 loss to Tottenham

27 games later, Tottenham has ended the streak of misery at Stamford Bridge. It looked like Chelsea would roll after Morata put them ahead in the 29th minute but with Marcos Alonso having a goal called back and other members of the team missing chances they ended the first half level after a moment of magic from Christan Eriksen. In the second half, it was clear that the Chelsea defense missed Thibaut Courtois as Willy Caballero was unable to provide much resistance to Dele Alli grabbing a second-half brace. Following the loss, Chelsea now faces an uphill battle as they are eight points behind Tottenham in the race for the top four.

Chelsea face the possibility of being without Andreas Christensen for Sunday's London derby with Tottenham.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Antonio Conte revealed Christensen will be monitored ahead of the clash with Spurs after he was sent home from international duty with Denmark due to fatigue. Should the 21-year-old fail to recover in time for Sunday's match, then club captain Gary Cahill could start in defense with Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger. However, Conte confirmed that David Luiz and Ethan Ampadu are both ruled out through injury. "David Luiz is out, at least for around another three weeks,’ said Conte. "The solution would be to play Cahill in the middle but we will try to recover Christensen. Ampadu is injured and unavailable for the rest of the season."

Antonio Conte has revealed Thibaut Courtois will be assessed ahead of their London derby clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

Courtois did not feature for Belgium during the international break due a minor hamstring problem and withdrew from Roberto Martinez's squad early as a precaution. However, the Chelsea No1 has yet to return to training and remains a doubt for the clash against their top-rivals Spurs. Should Courtois fail to recover for Sunday's clash at Stamford, then second-choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero will likely deputize for Belgian in between the sticks. Caballero has made 10 appearances this season and recorded a clean sheet in his lone Premier League start against Brighton in late January.
Mar 29 - 3:36 PM

The Belgium national team confirmed that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will not play in the club's friendly with Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The Chelsea keeper returned to the club to continue his recovery from a hamstring injury that also kept him out of the FA Cup quarterfinals last week, where Eduardo filled in for the winning side against Leicester City. However, Belgium manager Roberto Martinez said the decision to send him back to Chelsea was a precaution and Courtois is expected to be fit to face Tottenham this weekend: "Thibaut Courtois, from a coaching perspective, will not be fit for Tuesday but could be okay to play at the weekend [against Tottenham] for his club. For Tuesday it is too early and a risk...We are not going to take any chances with anyone. The medical team felt he [Courtois] would not be 100 per cent for Tuesday."

Denmark manager Age Hareide confirmed Andreas Christensen has been sent home from international duty because of fatigue.

Christensen has featured regularly for Antonio Conte' side this season since dropping David Luiz in from the starting XI in early November. The 21-year-old linked up with the Denmark squad for their friendly matches against Chile and Sweden over the international break, but has been sent back to London over fitness concerns. "Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London," Hareide said. "We do not want to take any risks with him. I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue." While the news will be a concern for Conte, Christensen will have a week to recover ahead of Chelsea's next match - at home against Tottenham on April 1.

Antonio Conte confirmed Thibaut Courtois was omitted from Sundays victorious FA Cup squad because of injury.

There was no surprise to see Willy Caballero between the sticks at Leicester – the veteran stopper has started in every round of this competition – but the absence of Courtois did cause a stir as Eduardo provided back-up from the bench. The Belgium international had endured a torturous night in Barcelona four days earlier - twice being nutmegged by Lionel Messi while he could have done better for Ousmane Dembele's goal – and the rumour mill went into overdrive following suggestions that Conte had dropped Courtois for his poor performance. However, the Chelsea boss revealed: "It wasn’t difficult [to leave Courtois out of the squad] because he was injured. He has a muscular [hamstring] problem." Despite the injury, he did arrive for international duty, although Simon Mignolet will play against Saudi Arabia next Tuesday as Courtois has been told to rest by Belgium club doctors for at least a week.

Chelsea starlet Nathan Ampadu has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after tests confirmed he suffered a fractured ankle in Spain seven days ago.

The 17-year-old was playing in a UEFA Youth League game against Real Madrid when he was forced off in the 80th minute after what the clubs Twitter feed described as a "heavy collision". There have been no official updates from Chelsea, but Ampadu, who was hoping to face China tomorrow as part of the Wales squad, has been ruled out. A statement on the FAW website read: "Nathan Ampadu has been forced to withdraw through injury." There is no timeline currently, but with less than 8 weeks of the season left, the highly regarded youngster is unlikely to be back in 2017/18. Ampadu has made seven appearances under Antonio Conte which includes one Premier League start.

N'Golo Kante has insisted he has no desire to leave Chelsea amid speculation Paris Saint-Germain are lining up a bid for him in the summer.

The French international joined Chelsea from Leicester City for £32m in 2016 and played a central role as the Blues won the Premier League title during his first season at Stamford Bridge. The 26-year-old, who was voted the PFA Player of the Year and FWA Football of the Year last season, has further developed his reputation as one of the best defensive midfielder in Europe this season despite Chelsea's dip in form. Reports suggest that PSG could move for him in the summer, but Kante told the London Evening Standard: "I am at home. It is my club, I am a Chelsea player. We will fight until the end to finish in the top four and to get in a Champions League position."
