Saints selected Arkansas-Pine Bluff OT Terron Armstead with the No. 75 overall pick.

It's an excellent fit in terms of both value and need for the Saints, who lost LT Jermon Bushrod in free agency. Armstead (6-5, 306) set an NFL Combine record for offensive linemen with a 4.71 forty-yard dash, and tied Oklahoma's Lane Johnson for this year's fastest ten-yard split (1.64). His vertical was 34 1/2 inches. Drawing pre-draft comparisons to Texans All-Pro Duane Brown, Armstead is a long-armed (34") left tackle with rare movement skills and sky-high upside. Concerns are his level of competition and a medical red flag on Armstead's back, discovered during pre-draft exams. Along with a shoulder issue from last season, it's why the athletic freak slipped this far.

One NFL scout told Packers beat writer Bob McGinn, "you just cannot take" Arkansas-Pine Bluff early in the draft.

"Terron Armstead played at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, for God's sakes... There's no way," the scout said when discussing the possibility of selecting the athletic offensive lineman early. "There's less of a chance of a bust with him than the Watson kid," another scout said. "Athletically, he's as good as anybody at that position. He's in great shape, and he's serious about football." McGinn notes one team has reservations about Armstead's back.

Arkansas Pine-Bluff T Terron Armstead played with a sprained AC join in his shoulder the entire 2012 season.

"It’s really painful," said Damon Nivens, the school's offensive line coach. "Being a former offensive lineman myself, you really use your hands. And that being attached to your arm, you’re feeling that every play as offensive lineman. You have contact every play. So I think it was very painful. But the kid was just tough. He played with it and played with attitude. Him being a left tackle, you have to be a pr***." Nivens went on to say that Armstead was "very intelligent, very smart" and that the "sky is the limit".

Arkansas-Pine Bluff T Terron Armstead recently visited the Rams.

Due to being from the area, the visit counted as the "local" variety, so it did not count against the team's limit of 30. We believe Armstead is going to be a top 50 selection due to his athletic lower half to bend, absorb, and redirect momentum. He can immediately come in and be a swing tackle or possibly take snaps at guard.

NFL Draft legend Gil Brandt says Arkansas-Pine Bluff OL Terron Armstead is "versatile enough to contribute at TE or DE."

Armstead is a super athletic offensive tackle who more than held his own at Shrine week and the Senior Bowl. We buy the tight end talk, since Nate Solder was used similarly in the early stages of his career, mainly as a third offensive tackle that must be accounted for. We think Armstead will be a top-50 selection.

Draft guru Tony Pauline writes teams are grading Arkansas-Pine Bluff T Terron Armstead as a left tackle.

Pauline adds that teams have "pulled him off their guard board" and that the Jacksonville Jaguars showed interest in him at his pro day. This is interesting news as we believe Armstead can indeed play guard if needed. Fifteen teams attended Armstead's pro day.

San Diego Chargers OL coach Joe D’Alessandris put Arkansas-Pine Bluff T Terron Armstead through his Pro Day workout.

Armstead stood on his forty, vertical, and broad jump from Indianapolis, but did participate in positional activities. "Armstead looked outstanding in the workouts, and now has some private workouts scheduled, including one with the Dallas Cowboys," writes NFL.com's Gil Brandt. We think Armstead has an excellent shot at being a top-50 selection.

NFL.com's Gil Brandt reports teams want to test Arkansas-Pine Bluff OT Terron Armstead at TE during his pro day.

Armstead ran a 4.71 40-yard dash and weighed in at 305 pounds at the combine only days ago. He's very athletic and fluid for his size, which makes him an intriguing fit at tight end. If he does make the move at tight end, he would undoubtedly become faster but also would be a big-time project.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff OL Terron Armstead ran an unofficial 4.65 during his first forty at the Combine.

Armstead was one of the best players at the East-West Shrine game and continued that effort with a call up during Senior Bowl week. He's played tackle during his career, but is so fluid and athletic in space that he could see some guard snaps. A second-round pick could be in his future.

NFL Network's Gil Brandt lists FSU QB E.J. Manuel, Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Arkansas Pine-Bluff OT Terron Armstead and FSU OT Menelik Watson as four prospects who can boost their stock at the Combine.

Brandt's list noticeably includes players that are known for their exceptional athleticism. All of them have a lot at stake, especially Patterson who looks to cement himself in the top 10 to 15 picks in the first round. Watson and Armstead have been noted in the past for their outstanding athleticism and have been climbing draft boards.

CBS Sports' Rob Rang says the athleticism of Arkansas-Pine Bluff T Terron Armstead and FSU T Menelik Watson is "staggering."

Armstead put on a show at the E-W Shrine game and held his own in a single day of practice at the Senior Bowl. We would like to see Armstead take a few snaps at guard because of his ridiculous mobility when pulling in space or trapping between the tackles.

The NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah tweeted Arkansas-Pine Bluff T Terron Armstead "made himself a lot of money" during the East-West Shrine week.

Armstead was easily the best offensive lineman during the week of practice and may have earned himself a call up to the Senior Bowl if any injuries occur. His upper body can be jolted, but Armstead's lower body is athletic enough to anchor and redirect momentum. We would like to see him take some snaps at guard because of his exceptional mobility when pulling.
