CBS Sports' Dane Brugler considers Arkansas senior A.J. Derby, a former QB, a sleeper TE prospect.

Derby is "very raw but talented," according to Brugler. The former quarterback is also a former Iowa Hawkeye, where head coach Bret Bielema played with Derby's father. A.J. offers a 6'4/232 lbs frame.

Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema said senior WR Demetrius Wilson (ACL) is back to full strength.

Wilson suffered a torn ACL in practice last August and missed the entire season. He played in 12 games in 2012, catching nine passes for 117 yards and one touchdown. Wilson returned to the team for spring practices, estimating that he was about 80-percent healthy. Wilson's availability is clutch for Arkansas, which released redshirt sophomore WR D’Arthur Cowan earlier this week.

Arkansas dismissed redshirt sophomore WR D’Arthur Cowan.

"D’Arthur won’t be with us," Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema said. "We need players to do certain things the right way. We tried to work with him on several occasions, but we have to move on." The 2012 three-star recruit caught four passes for 26 yards as a redshirt freshman in 2013. No reason was given for Cowan's release, but the WR has been suspended since the middle of last month due to academics.

ESPN's Mel Kiper believes Arkansas senior DE Trey Flowers could be drafted higher than former teammate Chris Smith (Round 5 by the Jaguars).

The 6-foot-4, 262-pounder posted only 13.5 tackles for loss and five sacks last season, decent for most, but not the production of a Day 1 or 2 pick. Scouts believe that Flowers could still be growing into his gangly frame, however, and some believe he's about to embark upon a breakout campaign. Flowers elected to return to school for his senior season after receiving a third-round tag from the NFL Draft Advisory Board in January.

Former UNLV senior OG Cameron Jefferson transferred to Arkansas.

Jefferson is eligible to play immediately because he has already graduated, but his defection brings up an interesting fact: Any Rebels player can transfer penalty-free prior to the season because UNLV got slapped with a postseason ban due to low APR scores. The 6-6, 300-pound Jefferson started all 13 games for UNLV at left guard in 2013.

Arkansas senior DE Trey Flowers' "intriguing physical dimensions" have him on NFL scouts' radars as a "wait-and-see" prospect, according to NFL.com's Bucky Brooks.

"It takes a while for long, gangly defensive ends to find their way as pass rushers, but NFL coaches and scouts are certainly willing to wait on impressive athletes that flash potential early in their careers," Brooks wrote. The 6-foot-4, 262-pounder isn't coming off the most productive season, collecting a respectable-but-not-dominant 13.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. "Although his flashes are impressive enough to garner serious consideration, Flowers must display more consistency and production to earn a high spot on the list," the analyst wrote. Brooks ranked Flowers No. 10 on his "pass rushers to watch" list.

Arkansas HC Bret Bielema said he was emphatic about receiving a six-year deal when he joined the school's staff, likely due to how much of a rebuild was needed with the football program.

Bielema went 3-9 during his first year with the Razorbacks, including going winless against SEC competition. "I haven't won a game, so it's hard to say you know what you're talking about," said Bielema. I'd like to have some Arkansas statistics to brag about." There is no doubt that Bielema has a large contract, but he needs to show improvement this season.

Redskins selected Arkansas K Zach Hocker with the No. 228 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Hocker was the Razorbacks' kicker for four seasons, making 61-of-79 field goals in his career. He missed just two extra points. He'll more than likely end up being a camp leg for the Redskins. Kai Forbath would have to faceplant.
May 10 - 6:03 PM

Seahawks selected Arkansas FB Kiero Small with the No. 227 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

A pure battering ram, Small added 40 rushes for 151 yards and three touchdowns as a senior. He'll have to beat out lead blockers Derrick Coleman and Spencer Ware for a spot on the 53-man roster in Seattle.
May 10 - 6:02 PM

Jaguars selected Arkansas DE Chris Smith with the No. 159 overall pick in the 2014 draft.

Smith (6-foot-1, 266) was a second-team All-SEC selection by the conference's coaches as a senior, and finished his career with 21.5 sacks. He ran 4.71 at the Combine with a 37-inch vertical and 10-foot-1 broad jump, demonstrating intriguing athletic tools. Smith is a classic speed rusher with a relentless motor. He has arm length (34 1/8") to separate from would-be blockers, but needs to improve versus the run. Smith has starting-caliber attributes, and will likely focus on the LEO rusher spot with the Jags.
May 10 - 3:03 PM

Lions selected Arkansas C Travis Swanson with the No. 76 overall pick in the 2014 draft.

Swanson (6-foot-5, 312) made 50 starts for the Razorbacks, earning first-team All-American and All-SEC accolades as a senior. He struggled at the Combine, running 5.28 with a 7-foot-11 broad jump and managing 20 reps on the bench. Swanson doesn't play with power at this stage of his career, which when combined with limited athleticism makes him a long shot to develop into a reliable NFL starter. He does offer size and arm length (33 1/8") to get some looks at guard. Incumbent C Dominic Raiola is on a one-year deal.
May 9 - 10:16 PM

NFL.com's Gil Brandt sees "a lot of LaAdrian Waddle" in Arkansas OT David Hurd.

Waddle, of course, was an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech in the 2013 class who became a starter for the Lions. "He's got good size and very long arms, which is imperative for an offensive tackle," Brandt wrote of the Razorback. Hurd (6-foot-5 7/8, 308 pounds) could be interesting in the latter part of Day 3.

An Eagles LB coach put Arkansas edge player Chris Smith through positional workouts at the school's pro day.

Smith improved his 3-cone time from 7.55 seconds to 7.37 seconds. He has great burst off the line of scrimmage, which was apparent during Senior Bowl week, and it is notable that Smith only participated in outside linebacker drills during the workout. Rotoworld's Josh Norris does not think the tape, specifically hand and length use, matches up with the strong all star circuit, however.

Arkansas C Travis Swanson struggled through a long day Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Swanson ran a middling 5.28-second 40-yard dash and lifted a troubling 20 reps on the bench, the lowest output of any offensive lineman. His 1.76-second split was a bit more encouraging, but let's be honest: Swanson probably cost himself a little money today. The former Razorback had been trying to fend off USC' Marcus Martin and Colorado State's Weston Richburg for top center prospect honors, and he may have fallen behind for good on Saturday.

Arkansas sophomore-to-be RB Alex Collins has been suspended from team activities for one week.

This includes all team activities outside of meeting with a strength and conditioning coach. Head coach Bret Bielema did not provide his reasoning for the suspension, but did indicate it was not football related. "He's been removed from all social media until further notice," Bielema said. "He's a tremendous young man that has to step up in certain areas to get where we want to be and I think he'll do that."
