Vad Lee - QB - Yellow Jackets

After hiring QB coach Bryan Cook from Cal Poly, the Georgia tech triple option offense is expected to go through some changes.

"He has done some interesting things at Cal Poly using the shotgun element as well so I feel like he is a good fit for us," head coach Paul Johnson said. Running back recruit Robert Martin also noted "They’re going to be putting in a lot of shotgun, one-back (sets)."

Jeremiah Attaochu - LB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech senior LB Jeremiah Attaochu is listed at No. 20 on Scouts Inc. analyst Todd McShay's initial rankings.

"Attaochu is flying under the radar, but he has the build, torso flexibility and body control when bending the edge to develop into an impact pass-rusher in the NFL," McShay writes. "He recorded 10 sacks last season." There's a lot of natural aggression and talent to Attaochu's game, but that can get him out of position.

Izaan Cross - DL - Yellow Jackets

Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench believes Georgia Tech DL Izaan Cross fits best as a NT in a four man front.

Cross played defensive end in Georgia Tech's three man front and attended the E-W Shrine game as a defensive tackle. He will be undersized for the nose tackle position, but Muench must like Cross' natural anchor.

Jeremiah Attaochu - LB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech junior LB Jeremiah Attaochu announced he will return for his senior season.

Attaochu is a very athletic linebacker but lacks technique and awareness against the run. In coverage the junior gets sucked in too often and is sometimes lost in space, but the Yellow Jacket has natural ability. Attaochu could take the next step in 2013.

Georgia Tech senior LB Jeremiah Attaochu requested an evaluation from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

Attaochu is a very athletic linebacker that needs refinement, but his closing burst to make tackles at multiple levels of the field is desired by many. The Yellow Jacket is a bit reckless, however, and is susceptible to high pad level which creates difficulties when attempting to shed from blocks.

Jemea Thomas - DB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech junior S Jemea Thomas announced that he will return for his senior season.

Thomas is not a name many had been waiting on to see if the safety was going to declare, but the senior decided to announce his plans anyways. Thomas wrote, “to clear things up I will be at georgia tech next year because I promised my grandmother a degree now go and write about that.” This is likely in response to an article that noted Thomas refused to comment if he would enter his name to the Draft Advisory Board.

Orwin Smith - RB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech senior RB Orwin Smith is listed as doubtful to play in Saturday's ACC Championship game with an ankle injury.

The A-back missed last weekend's game against Georgia with the same injury. Smith is the team's leading rusher per game, averaging over 61 yards per contest. Robbie Godhigh will continue to start at the spot.

Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson reiterated the need to fix the defense's struggles against no-huddle offenses.

"We played some more basic coverages and defensively, I thought that everyone was more on the same page," Johnson said. "We still need to work on it, and we have got to get better pressure on the quarterback, especially." The Yellow Jackets have struggled against three teams that heavily use a no-huddle mindset, and all five of their final use it to some degree.

Jeremiah Attaochu - LB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech junior LB Jeremiah Attaochu will not play Saturday against Middle Tennessee State due to an undisclosed injury.

Attaochu missed a handful of games last year with a lower leg injury, but it has not been disclosed if this is related. The junior flies around the field and is an excellent athlete, but he needs some refinement.

Tevin Washington - QB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech has outscored their opponents 46-0 in the second quarter this season.

The Yellow Jackets schedule has not been loaded with cupcakes, either, facing three conference opponents Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Miami. Senior quarterback Tevin Washington has accounted for 814 yards of total offense on 101 plays, resulting in seven touchdowns thus far in 2012.

Jeremy Moore - WR - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech starting junior WR Jeremy Moore apparently had a change of heart and will stay with the program.

On Wednesday the receiver left the program, citing personal issues, but that breakup did not last long. Moore will not play today but it is likely he will be accepted back into the program. Jeff Greene and Darren Waller are getting the starting nods at receiver against the Hurricanes Saturday.

Georgia Tech starting junior WR Jeremy Moore has left the program due to personal issues.

"He had some personal reasons, said that he’s struggled with it before," Johnson said. "It’s not the first time he’s thought about it. I just wished him well." Due to the Yellow Jackets' triple option offense, Moore has only recorded three passes for 64 yards this season, all coming against Presbyterian.

David Sims - RB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech junior RB David Sims has been cleared to practice and play against Miami after recovering from a stress fracture in his shin.

Sims was last year's B-back, starting 10 of 12 games played while rushing for 698 yards on 5.2 yards per carry to go along with eight touchdowns. His return comes at just the right time, as current starter Zach Laskey was held out of the second half of last week's game with an injured shoulder and his status is uncertain.

Tevin Washington - QB - Yellow Jackets

Play of backups reveals how far ahead starting quarterback Tevin Washington is.

Washington had his ups and downs in his first season running Paul Johnson’s option offense. He completed a shade less than half his passes with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Over the last seven regular season games, six of which were conference affairs, he was 0/7. While he piled up 987 yards and 14 TDs on the ground, a little more efficiency through the air would be a good thing. Washington has had a strong spring while backups Synjyn Days and Vad Lee have not proved to be a threat to seriously compete with Washington as the starter.

Tevin Washington - QB - Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson says starting quarterback Tevin Washington needs to continue to improve or he will fall on the depth chart.

Johnson was speaking to the competition that awaits Washington this spring. The coach was complimentary of Washington's play last season, but the reality is there are a couple of QBs that are chomping at the bit to take over. That will force Washington to get better -- or fall from No. 1. In running Johnson's triple-option last season, Washington completed only 49.3 percent of his passes for 1,652 yards and 11/8. He rushed for for 987 yards and 14 TDs.
