Football Scoop's Scott Roussel reports that Howard will hire Michigan offensive analyst Ron Prince to serve as their next head coach.

Prince has served as an analyst with the Wolverines for the past season, but you're probably more familiar with him from his time serving as K-State's head coach from 2006-08, when he filled the gap between Bill Snyder's two stints in Manhattan. Prince managed just a 17-20 record across those three seasons. He lands this Howard job after now-former Bison HC Mike London accepted the head-coaching gig at William & Mary.

Howard sophomore QB Caylin Newton completed 11-of-25 passes for 159 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday's 54-14 loss to Howard.

Newton (6'0/195) couldn't get it going on the ground either, as he only managed 41 yards on 22 carries. It was a much tougher game for Newton and the Bison -- Newton had four total touchdowns last week -- but there will be ups and downs with a sophomore quarterback. With three years of eligibility left, Newton has time to develop.
Sep 8 - 7:54 PM

Howard sophomore QB Caylin Newton completed 26-of-52 yards for 439 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for 93 yards and a score in a 38-32 loss to Ohio on Saturday.

What a sensational game for Newton, who you might know as the brother of Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton. He doesn't offer nearly the same size as big brother (6'0/195) but he clearly can make plays with his legs, and his arm -- while inaccurate for much of the day -- kept the Bison alive against a clearly superior opponent in MAC-favorite Ohio. Newton has three years of eligibility left. He looks like a player to watch going forward.

Michigan hired former Detroit Lions coach Ron Prince as an offensive analyst.

Prince has bounced around from college football to the NFL throughout his coaching career. Prince was a head coach at Kansas State from 2006-2008 which resulted in a 17-20 record and only one bowl game in three years. He was the assistant head coach and offensive line coach the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions and is a great addition to Jim Harbaugh's coaching staff.
Mar 9 - 7:20 PM

Howard RB Anthony Philyaw caught two passes for 42 yards and ran for a touchdown in a 23-0 victory over the American squad on Saturday in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Philyaw only had five touches in this game, but he made the most of them. His big yardage play was a 24-yard catch, but he also was able to find the end zone from 12-yards out. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound tailback ran for 33 touchdowns in his time with the Bison, and he has the size teams look for in a short-yardage back. This could be a name to pay attention to going forward.

The Detroit Lions hired Rutgers offensive coordinator Ron Prince as assistant head coach/tight ends coach.

New Lions head coach Jim Caldwell worked with Prince in 2010 and 2011 when the former was Indianapolis' head coach and Prince was the Colts' assistant offensive line coach. Prince served as assistant offensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 and was previously head coach at Kansas State from 2006-08.

Howard LB Keith Pough measured 6-foot-1 3/4 and 241 pounds at this week's East-West Shrine all-star event.

Pough was listed at a lankier 6-foot-3, 225 by Howard University. A favorite of Rotoworld's Josh Norris, Pough is built like an NFL middle linebacker and also has an impressive 79-inch wingspan, which will help for pass coverage purposes. Through two East-West Shrine practices, Pough has been a standout on the field.

Howard senior LB Keith Pough has been invited to the East-West Shrine Game.

Earlier in the season, Pough's performance was dubbed as "dominant" despite lacking ideal measurables. This Shrine invite will be a great stage for Pugh to show everyone why he apparently has scouts buzzing.

Former NFL personnel man Russ Lande listed Howard LB Keith Pough a riser after the senior has delivered "dominant play."

According to Lande, "Despite lacking the great measureables that small school players usually need to get the NFL’s attention, Pough’s dominant play has done more than enough to get scouts talking." Pough apparently reads and reacts very quickly, consistently making plays behind the line of scrimmage. We hop the senior gets a chance during a postseason all star game.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham has agreed to a five-year contract extension.

Whittingham has kept the Utah train rolling, though the offense has not proven to be one full of offensive fantasy starters.
