Sentinel Newspapers' Brandy L. Simms reports that former Virginia HC Mike London has been hired to serve as head coach at Howard.

London stepped down from Virginia at the end of the 2015 campaign after posting a 27-46 overall record with the Cavaliers. He subsequently joined D.J. Durkin's staff at Maryland last winter. Now onward to Howard, where he figures to try to regain the shine which brought him ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2011.

Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin added former Virginia HC Mike London to his staff.

It appears as though London will be Durkin's defensive line coach and associate head coach. The 55-year-old London is a tremendous recruiter, specifically in the Maryland/Virginia/D.C. region, so this is a nice get for Durkin.

Virginia HC Mike London has resigned.

Virginia struggled to a 4-8 record under London's watch this season. He was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2011, but failed to pile up the victories on a consistent basis and held a 27-46 record (14-34 in ACC play) during his time with the school. In a released statement, the six-year head coach of the Cavaliers said, "While we were successful in the development of our players in many areas, I would have liked to have won more games for the student-athletes, coaches, fans and everyone that's a part of the University of Virginia." AD Craig Littlepage indicated that UVA does not have a timeline for when they will name their next head coach.

NFL Media ranks Virginia HC Mike London as having the No. 2 hottest seat in college football.

He is 23-38 in five seasons with the Cavs. "London and his staff have recruited relatively well, but except for an eight-win season in 2011, his teams have underachieved. The Cavs have had four losing seasons in London's five-year tenure," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Mike Huguenin. "Quarterback play generally has been abysmal, and it doesn't seem as if it will be all that good this fall, either. UVa has a fertile recruiting base, especially in the Tidewater region, so this is an underrated job." London will not be on this list next season. With 15 starters returning, the Cavs are either about the break out, or they will be looking for a new coach, perhaps even during the season.

Virginia announced that head coach Mike London will return next season.

London is 5-6 this season and 23-37 overall. If the Cavs lose to Virginia Tech on Friday, he will have missed a bowl game in four of five campaigns. Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage said he has "seen signs of progress in many areas" and added that "through the staff changes made over the last two years, we are better at teaching the game and in the overall development of the student-athletes." London has recruited well and will be in a good position to succeed next year with 15 starters returning.

Howard LB Keith Pough measured 6-foot-1 3/4 and 241 pounds at this week's East-West Shrine all-star event.

Pough was listed at a lankier 6-foot-3, 225 by Howard University. A favorite of Rotoworld's Josh Norris, Pough is built like an NFL middle linebacker and also has an impressive 79-inch wingspan, which will help for pass coverage purposes. Through two East-West Shrine practices, Pough has been a standout on the field.

Howard senior LB Keith Pough has been invited to the East-West Shrine Game.

Earlier in the season, Pough's performance was dubbed as "dominant" despite lacking ideal measurables. This Shrine invite will be a great stage for Pugh to show everyone why he apparently has scouts buzzing.

Former NFL personnel man Russ Lande listed Howard LB Keith Pough a riser after the senior has delivered "dominant play."

According to Lande, "Despite lacking the great measureables that small school players usually need to get the NFL’s attention, Pough’s dominant play has done more than enough to get scouts talking." Pough apparently reads and reacts very quickly, consistently making plays behind the line of scrimmage. We hop the senior gets a chance during a postseason all star game.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham has agreed to a five-year contract extension.

Whittingham has kept the Utah train rolling, though the offense has not proven to be one full of offensive fantasy starters.
