Seahawks selected Harding DE Ty Powell with the No. 231 overall pick.

Powell (6-foot-2 1/8, 249) played defensive back early in his college career before moving into a full-time pass-rushing role. He notched 15 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks as a senior, also blocking four picks. Powell demonstrated terrific speed at the Combine with a 4.64 forty and 1.59 ten-yard split. He may have a future in the league as a nickel rusher and special teamer.

The Carolina Panthers worked out Harding DL Ty Powell.

Powell could be a good fit in the Panthers' 4-3 defense as a strong-side linebacker. He's versatile and could be used as a drop-back linebacker, as NFL.com's Gil Brandt suggests. It was reported last month by National Football Post's Russ Lande that Powell could be a third-round pick.

National Football Post's Russ Lande writes Harding DL Ty Powell could slip into the bottom of the third-round.

"...Powell’s workout reinforced his strong Combine workout and stellar play at Harding and has him in position to be a likely fourth round pick who could slip into the bottom of the third if the rumors I have been hearing from NFL personnel are correct," Lande writes. Powell could be a good fit as a strong-side linebacker in a 4-3 defense.

Indianapolis Colts LB Jeff Fitzgerald put Harding LB Ty Powell through his Pro Day workout.

Powell, a former safety and defensive end, projects best to strong side linebacker in a 4-3 or a pass rushing linebacker next to a three man front. The workout apparently lasted for an hour and Gil Brandt says that the Harding product "could be selected as high as the fourth round."

Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl believes Harding's Ty Powell is a great fit at SLB or as a pass rusher in a 3-4.

Weidl makes sure to note that he is "very high on" the Harding product. Powell "has traits that translate to NFL level," tweeted Weidl. "Long, explosive and covers a lot of ground in a hurry."

SI's Tony Pauline said that area scouts that evaluated Harding senior Ty Powell "stamped" the DE/LB as a top-90 pick.

Pauline added that Powell received an East-West Shrine game invitation. We have not checked out the Harding product but he possesses desirable size for a pass rushing linebacker. Powell compiled 15 sacks, including 8.5 sacks, in 2012.
