David Bass - DL - Griffons

Raiders selected Missouri Western State DE David Bass with the No. 233 overall pick.

Bass (6-foot-3 7/8, 262) started a record 50 games for the Griffons and left MWSU as the school's all-time leader in both sacks (40.5) and tackles for loss (56). A squatty, long-armed (33 1/2") pass rusher, Bass was an East-West Shrine standout before running a 4.84 at the Combine with a 1.67 ten-yard split. Bass faces a large jump in competition and lacks truly explosive edge-rusher tools, but he's good value here for a Raiders team in desperate need of sack production. He'll have a solid chance to make the 53.

Missouri Western DE David Bass visited the Rams this week.

Bass was an ultra productive small schooler who certainly did not look out of place during East-West Shrine practices. He isn't a prospect with tremendous athletic upside, but Bass uses leverage and multiple counter moves to win. He's a local product, so Bass did not count against the Rams limit of 30 in-house visits.

Missouri Western DE David Bass has private workouts scheduled with the Panthers and Rams.

Bass was considered the most consistent pass rusher at the Easy-West Shrine, using his stocky stature to gain leverage and keep offensive linemen on skates. He was also one of the few to display counter moves after his initial momentum was stopped. Expect a mid-third day selection.

David Bass - DL - Griffons

Missouri Western DE David Bass ran an official 4.84 forty at the NFL Combine.

Bass' 10 yard split came in at 1.67 seconds. There had been reports that if Bass had ran in the 4.6s, teams might look at him as a pass rushing outside linebacker. We doubt that happens at his Pro Day, and Bass' best traits are strong hands and leverage.

"Word is" Missouri Western DE David Bass might run in the mid 4.6s, per draft insider Tony Pauline.

"If he runs that fast at the combine his stock will rise as teams will give him consideration as both a 3-4 outside linebacker as well as a 4-3 defensive end," Pauline writes. We think more than a fast forty time for a 260-pounder is needed to consider him a pass rushing linebacker, but Bass' squatty frame and hand use was impressive during the East-West Shrine week.
