Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes San Jose State DE/OLB Isaiah Irving could vie for a roster spot this summer.

"Irving is an intense and explosive pass rusher who can bend off the edge with speed and is relentless chasing down the quarterback or ball handlers," he wrote. "He was effective out of a three-point stance as well as standing over tackle." Irvin was an honorable mention All-Mountain West pick last season after ranking third in the Mountain West in sacks per game (0.58). "Irving has size deficiencies and must impress on special teams this summer, yet I could see someone taking a liking to him as a designated pass rusher," Pauline wrote.

Earlier this week, San Jose State WR Tim Crawley was interviewed by the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons.

The diminutive 5-foot-7, 169-pounder had 55 receptions for 648 yards last season. He can also play out of the backfield and return kicks.

San Jose State hired Arizona State DL coach Joe Seumalo to serve in the same capacity.

Seumalo was initially hired by the Sun Devils last February. Prior to that gig, he worked at UNLV during the 2015 campaign. The bulk of his coaching experience came at Oregon State, where he served on staff for nine seasons. At San Jose State, he replaces Jamar Cain, who has moved on to coach up the defensive line at Fresno State.

San Jose State signed three-star JUCO LB/S Jamal Scott.

Scott began his career at Arizona State as a lauded prospect. When things didn't work out there, he transferred to Fullerton College, where he had 49 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 quarterback sacks last season. Scott now has two years of eligibility remaining.

Sports Illustrated gave San Jose State an "A" grade for hiring Oregon State wide receivers coach Brent Brennan as HC.

Only two other "A" grades were handed out by SI; Purdue for hiring Jeff Brohm and USF for hiring Charlie Strong. The 43-year old Brennan was an assistant at SJSU from 2005-2010. With the Beavers, he coached All-American wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Markus Wheaton. Scout ranked Brennan's first class as head boss No. 5 in the Mountain West behind Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State and Fresno State.

FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman reports that San Jose State will hire Texas WR coach Andrew Sowder to serve as offensive coordinator.

Texas initially brought Sowder in as WR coach this past August. Having previously spent time at Baylor and under Dino Babers at Bowling Green, he figures to attempt to implement a similar high-flying offensive attack with the Spartans. San Jose State averaged a modest 24.42 points during the 2016 campaign.

San Jose State fired head coach Ron Caragher.

Caragher got the job in 2013 when Mike MacIntyre bolted for Colorado. While MacIntyre slowly rebuilt the Buffs into a Pac-12 contender, Caragher oversaw the Spartans' descent back into the shadows. San Jose State finished 4-8 this season, giving Caragher a 19-30 record in four seasons.

San Jose State senior QB Kenny Potter (leg) is probable for Saturday's game against Iowa State.

Potter injured his leg in Saturday's loss to Utah, but it looks like he will be able to play this weekend as the Spartans try to drop Iowa State to 0-4. Through three games, the 6-foot-2, 212-pound senior has completed 40-of-66 passes (60.6% completions) for 532 yards and a 5/2 TD/INT ratio. While Potter posted perfectly respectable numbers last season (1,984 passing yards with a 15/7 TD/INT ratio), there isn't much upside for fantasy fireworks here.

San Jose State redshirt junior RB Thomas Tucker is out indefinitely due to a concussion.

A huge fantasy breakout prospect following the departure of Tyler Ervin, Tucker ended up missing Wk. 1's upset loss to Tulsa and now appears likely to miss more action. Deontae Cooper was ineffective in his steed. The Spartans may be in trouble.

San Jose State senior WR Tyler Winston has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2016 season.

Winston burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2013, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors for the campaign while being named to Phil Steele's Freshman All-America team on the strength of a 58-858-5 receiving line. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder averaged a nice 14.8 yards per reception that season. He has yet to match those lofty freshman numbers. Last season, Winston posted a 35-368-2 line in eight games. He had been an expected starter for 2016 and with his absence, youngsters Rahshead Johnson, Bailey Gaither and Tre Hartley should all see increased reps and opportunities in August camp.

Texans signed San Jose State CB Cleveland Wallace.

Wallace (5'11/188) spent two years as a Spartan after transferring from Washington, tallying four interceptions and 22 pass breakups. Only an honorable mention All-Mountain West pick in 2015, Wallace fared poorly in Indy with a 4.68 forty and 35 1/2-inch vertical. A matador as a tackler and lacking NFL-level size and speed, Wallace will have a tough time hanging around.

Falcons selected San Jose State OG Wes Schweitzer with the No. 195 overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft.

Aside from the fact that he's listed at 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, we know very little about this Mountain West prospect. Schweitzer posted decent numbers at this Pro Day, and earned second-team All Mountain West honors as a senior. His best-case scenario for 2016 is probably the practice squad.

Texans selected San Jose State RB Tyler Ervin with the No. 119 overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Ervin (5'10/192) was a multi-phase weapon at San Jose State, aligning at tailback, slot receiver, cornerback, return specialist, and gunner. He graduated as the school's all-time leader in all-purpose yards (6,146), kick-return yards (2,374), combined punt and kicks returned for TDs (5), and most TDs of 80 yards or more (6). Ervin's explosive athleticism was confirmed in Indy, blazing 4.41 with a 39-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump. While his size is indicative of a Dexter McCluster type, Ervin's ability to carry a heavy college workload hints at the potential for more should that opportunity come.

San Jose State RB Tyler Ervin is visiting the Rams on Tuesday, according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today.

The Rams could be looking to fill their complementary running back role, a spot the team tried to fill a few years ago with Isaiah Pead, albeit unsuccessfully. Ervin offers many of the same promising traits that made many excited about Pead: speed, open field success and receiving ability. Ervin can be on the field in two running back sets, especially when motioned out and used as a pass catcher. He lacks the ability to beat first contact, however.

San Jose State RB Tyler Ervin has made visits to see the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texas, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots.

"From what I'm being told Ervin could end up in the draft's second day," reported TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline. "Teams love the versatility, toughness and play-making skill Ervin brings as a ball carrier, pass catcher and return specialist, all attributes he showcased during Senior Bowl week." One team in particular -- the Patriots -- has been smitten with the Ervin during the pre-draft process. "He's the type of player the team finds ways to have success with," Pauline wrote. "Then again, they already have that type of player on their roster in Dion Lewis."
